It pains me to rate my city with only three stars. Sadly, some might only give it one. I chose three because I love it here and believe with better guidance and direction, it can be a full five stars. Here is my suggestion: -one star: Fix the lack of ability for us to spend our money in our community. The great "plaza" is filled with places to eat but no where to really shop...unless you want discount and irregular clothes 24/7. Where does one go when they are tired of Target and Kohl's? Vallejo City Hall - Town Hall Near Me - Vallejo, California

Ive been on a Review Break but am catching up with them. So let's start with city hall. In my opinion, everything works great in life until government or IT gets involved, buuuut... Vallejo City Hall is a very nice place and I'm giving stars JUST for the security lady who is just so cool and smiling and funny...great hire right there, city of Vallejo! Also thanks to the very patient folks in traffic division who are trying really hard to get everyone to go along with all the crazy changes we're seeing here in town. I like also that the information boards are full of great stuff to read and shows that transparency in government is alive here. I've really got to make sure everyone gets the word! After all, how many good experiences does one have with a government office or entity? I'm in the process of buying a house and one of the big deciding factors for me was the addition (Family Room). Was it legally done? Were there permits? 10 minutes to closing, I pick up the phone and call the building department for the City of Vallejo and ask the lady that answered how you check out the permits. I was expecting to be told that I needed to fill out some form, in triplicate, provide my first born, a photo of the moon when it turned blue, along with $87 in small unmarked bills. Instead, I'm told that she is so pleased that I have taken the time to call and that she wished that everyone would do this before they made a home purchase. (I'm on the other end of the phone with a huge cheesy grin). She asks for the address and then proceeds to give me all the information that I needed. I even asked her a couple of questions which she had to go back and check for me, and not once did she hurry me or act like she needed to leave, even though it was past 5:00 pm. I made a note to myself (Self!), to make sure that I have that same attitude when the phone rings at closing time at my job! So, three cheers for a public employee (and I will find out her name and let her boss know) that did a great job, made her department look good and made Jane Citizen (that would be me) very happy. The lack of judgement and arrogance by the City of Vallejo code enforcement towards its Senior Citizens is appalling. The City came onto my neighbors property, took pictures over his fence of his back yard. My senior neighbor sold his home and moved away after He was targeted by code enforcement with a $500. a day lien that would be placed against his property. There should be an investigation! read more

Always start with the positive...as usual with the bay area, the loathed, maligned and much hated military always seems to be the best of the bay and in Vallejo's case that's Mare Island. It not in as bad of shape as the former Presidio in SF or Alameda naval base are and the second positive in this otherwise Detroit like city is the California State Maritime Academy. I guess the Kaiser hospital is new but if you're not part of Kaiser does that matter? The annual pirate festival is fun and worth attending (bring an umbrella) To my surprise the police have some top of the line vehicles in a bankrupt city, that's mind blowing and they're not asshats. Downtown they lighted the main shopping street but there's nothing worth shopping for there, especially at night. As for the negatives, it's Detroit light or Diet Detroit. The housing is cheap but traffic on 80 is insane day or night especially on Fridays and a $5 bridge toll sucks but it does offer a ferry and the ferry area is new but takes an hour to reach San Francisco. read more

I wanted to review this city and the enforcers on Georgia street but reviews already written say it all. Not a good place for small business. I moved my business after being constantly told what signs I could not place on Georgia Street and what displays I could not have out front or in my windows of merchandise, what I could not do doing the farmer's market to enter my own establishment without paying a separate fee to a street manager. I am now looking all around the Bay Area for another location. Please, read the comments on this site before moving your small business, upscale clothing shops to Georgia Street. And don't think you will have an easy time with the fire department approving your lighted signs, plugs and wiring. If you move into a building that once housed a Beauty Shop, don't assume you can open another one. You may find after you sign a long lease you can't even open up and the large rats that live in the trash bins are the only tenants who have rights. If you must come to Vallejo, please don't sign a long-term lease, because not even the court will help you get your deposits back from building owners who have a lock on the entire system-strange isn't it? Ignore this warning at your own peril. read more

Oh Vallejo.....You truly are a lost treasure that I hope one day someone shows you more love than they have in the past. You have the potential, I support your local business, and I contribute to the beautification of your city. My mothers house currently resides in your beautiful city and I love having a beautiful front garden (curb appeal for days)! As you have a positive your nighttime cannot be trusted you have robbed me of my belongings and I time and time again have reinvested my trust in you. I hope that one day the streets can be better controlled and people catch on to how wonderful the rent prices are. Did I mention I'm talking vintage building, claw foot tubs, and crown molding. What in an apartment only twenty minutes from the city can you get?!?..... All I'm trying to say is this place has potential and I want to be able to be prouder in its community and put five stars to this lost treasure. read more

gestapo forms to turn on water . they now have a 3 page form and require you to send a copy of your lease or ownership documents. they want your ssn, dl#, employment details. first born, etc. you must either go to city or mail this form. no exception. illegal and incredibly intrusive. please protest - complain - and refuse to supply this info. The Privacy Act regulates the use of Social Security numbers by government agencies. When a federal, state, or local government agency asks an individual to disclose his or her Social Security number, the Privacy Act requires the agency to inform the person of the following: the statutory or other authority for requesting the information; whether disclosure is mandatory or voluntary; what uses will be made of the information; and the consequences, if any, of failure to provide the information. Spent 4 nights here as we were dropping our son off at college. This has got to be one of the worst cities I've ever visited. Trash literally everywhere on sides of streets, in business landscaping beds (when there are any), and along highways. Old sofas, chairs, mattresses, and other misc. furniture dumped in parking lots and along streets. Appears to have a large homeless population also. Also saw many prostitutes. It appears no one is taking care of this city. I have never seen anything like it. What a crying shame! read more

To the city of vallejo water company. As we all know the water was out in a few neighborhoods this week. Yes it was a nuisance to life however thats life right? I would like to thank the amazing team that dedicated their time to go out there day and night working away in this crazy heat to help fix this water issue. This is directed towards them..yes i was unable to be without water for two days. However i was blessed to have it cut back on! Thank you guys for an amazing teamwork you guys do.
