British Swim School at City Sports Club - Vallejo

British Swim School at City Sports Club - Vallejo

A true gem of a swim school! Amazing, talented coaches and the best customer service. Everyone has…read morea smile and is so kind! My kid has improved so much since starting lessons.

TLDR: stay clear of this place, unless you like paying thousands for glorified day care…read more UPDATE - response to owner's (Cheronda A.) reply to this review: Hi Cheronda, I already did exactly what you suggest, before leaving this review I reached out to you directly to raise my concerns, which you refused to address after which you ended our conversation by writing quote; "There will be no further correspondence on this matter.", which now results in your incongruity between your private and public communication being on public display. Original review: British Swim School's Vallejo location, run by Cheronda A. and team, advertise their program as being able to "instilling water survival skills that save lives". After 17 months (64 lessons) and $2500 down the drain, we pulled our son from this program due to it being more akin to an aquatic day care (with you as the parent remaining present) than a swim program. The people at the school are nice enough interpersonally, but these are the red flags to notice: - After an initial few weeks you stop getting feedback, which when given is always verbally and never through skill progress item in the British Swim School's app. If you challenge the owner (Cheronda A.) on this, you will be gaslighted in there being more feedback than there actually is, and that it is their policy to only give verbal feedback versus using the app for what it is intended. - You'll notice your child will have many different instructors throughout lessons, with great variety as seniority as instructors. - You're paying about $40 for a 30min session, but on avg. there are 4 kids per classes, meaning even if you round up that's $40 for 10 minutes of instruction, as in the 64 "lessons" we paid for equates to having paid $2500 for less than 11 hours of instruction. - The lessons are utterly simple snd repetitive, and not lessons at all, the same 4 simple things are just endlessly repeated without any coaching or guidance from the instructors towards the child as to what to do different or how to improve. - The final straw, when you confront them on the inadequacies listed above, they will a) gaslight you in terms of feedback cycles, but much much worse, b) blame the lack of results on your child. In summary, this school will happily take your money for providing very little, and in terms of practical outcomes are operating in opposition of their mission statement.

I'll start with the not so good: I would love to see more…read moreLife Cycle exercise bicycles. There is only one, downstairs, and the exercise bicycle upstairs isn't the same type and it's not comfortable for me. The one downstairs has been broken for 3 weeks. I have brought it to the attention of 3 staff members who have heard it and said it will be taken care of. The front wheel makes a terrible clanging sound that is as disturbing to the people around me as it is to me. Please fix the machine promptly and seriously consider getting getting an additional one upstairs. For a fitness center of this size one more is the bare minimum. There are often people waiting to use this one frequently. Otherwise a great place to work out! The staff is friendly and it is clean and bright. .

I hate to write about my experience in this way as I've been coming here for a couple years now. I…read morecame from the 24 hr fitness at Hilltop & I've checked out City Sports, Club Pilates Benicia & even Orange Theory. I love the classes/instructors here (Roberto, Ari, Beth & Marta, Benny!) & the remodeled sauna! However I don't feel they are fully family friendly and more profit driven. My eldest daughter and I got in a fatal car accident last year. we both required surgery and as we recovered being able to return to moving our bodies we upgraded our plan so that we can bring a guest; recover, get stronger together. One evening we got stopped and blonde lady working at the front desk asked for her ID that she did not have on her so she said my daughter could not work out because she is underage (under 18) and to add her to our plan it would be an additional $40 per month! on top of the $80 we pay. Just imagine being told you can bring an extra person for an additional $10/month. Have been paying & bringing your child for months and then boom suddenly you can't. This is the second or third time I've had an issue here at Vallejo in Shape. I have 4 kids & carving out the time & coverage to consistently come to the gym- trying to keep my health first. I would like to just pay the fee & show up. The primary reason for me to add a guest to our plan is for safety especially at night or 5am when its dark and there is no sun out. I mean a 16 year old can work and drive but not work out for the same amount of a guest 18 or over? This just put a wrench in our lifestyle, health & safety. Truly disappointing. No longer highly motivated or excited to come to this gym anymore.

So we were excited to have another recreation and fitness center available other than YMCA. The center offered a Performing Arts Center, Family pool, gym, climbing wall, competition lap pool, worship center, weight room, group exercise classes and more. I paid for the fitness shuffle classes to include the Zumba classes which was so much fun. My two nephews would be placed in the child watch section while their parents (My cousin) worked out. My daughter also worked at the child watch section. My brother also worked as a personal fitness trainer. We were members of the Kroc prior to my daughter and brother's employment. All the employees were always friendly, nice and helpful. We surely enjoyed our time here. We have a lot of great memories.

Got a day pass because my godson wanted to go "real" rock climbing because he'd finally mastered…read morethe small rock wall at our local playground! The staff was super sweet & kind! He was interested in climbing barely a quarter up the wall then "falling" because that was so much fun! His interest in the rock wall lasted about 10 min before he wanted to see the basketball court, his first experience ever! & He ended up spending 45+ min in there! We then took a little self tour of the facility & now I want to get a family membership!!!! The day pass was only $11 for him, I was simply a spectator so no money spent there, I'm glad he got wrapped up in the court bc if he only did the rock wall for 10 min that would've felt like paying a dollar n ten cents per minute on the rock wall!! so it was nice to see him explore new things & feel like it was worth the money. The person who answered the phone when I called asking about the rock wall was very informative & gave great information. They were very good about calling a staff member over when we arrived, got the rock wall & the girl was helpful with my godson's first real experience doing this! I noticed a sign that JELLY BELLY sponsors the rock wall????! They should have it updated!!!! My Godson was slightly disappointed there was no bell or buzzer at the top, and the grips were lack luster, you'd think Jelly Belly would've at least had paid for an eye catching array of color or maybe jelly bean looking grips??! I have half a mind to email them requesting an update to the wall!!!! My godson was requesting "the rainbow wall" after 7-8 min! (A wall he had seen in YouTube videos) & I could tell he was slightly disappointed & I felt bad because this was the only rock wall in the area I could afford!!!! Still a great experience imo
