I want to thank the staff for helping me the other day! I was airing up my tires at another gas station and the air pump was actually draining my tires! Thankfully the staff member at Valero answered my call and I was able to drive over with a near flat tire and quickly use their free air pump to resolve the issue. I don't usually buy gas in San Francisco. But my job takes me to this part of Ocean Ave at least once a week. This Valero is usually busy with cars getting gas. On the rare occasion that there's no customers and I need gas, I might use this station in the evening. This station has old style lights, and it seems dark and unwelcoming. The islands are in a slanted configuration, which makes it difficult to maneuver around pumps. Probably okay for small cars, but a large truck might have problems. The pumps are dirty and there's seldom any washer water. I didn't use the restroom. The cashier is not very friendly or talkative. This station has a auto repair shop, and that's a plus. This is a review for the auto care at Valero. Got a nail stuck in my tire for the umpteenth time, but my usual places were super backed up for the holidays. One of them actually referred me to Valero and since I was in the area, decided to pull up and talk to someone there. Literally was in and out within 10 minutes, the guy patched up my tire well, added air to all my tires, and was super nice compared to my usuals, ha! The cherry on top was that the price was super competitive. I think I have a new favorite now! read more

This place is AMAZING. Julian fixed my tire fast and was very nice. Myron has fixed my flat tire in the past. I cannot say enough good about this place and what a gem they are to the ingleside neighborhood. These guys can do almost anything you need EXCEPT alignments and smog check. I want to change out my break repair and I went there on Monday, the mechanic at the shop took a look at it and told me the break and motor is out, I asked can you order the break the motor for me and get it done? he told me I need to come back to the place next day to talk to the boss. I called in the morning twice and they hang up on me and second time they answer the phone and told me the boss doesn't even have time to call me back. I got my break repair at this place two front break for $1300 two year ago. Valero Gas Station on Ocean: BAD BUSINESS PRACTICES re: Gas Purchase Heads up: I purchased $20 worth of gas today 4/14 and got a $74 charge on my card. When I went back and inquired, I was told that they always hold $50 for any purchase using a debit card. No where on the display or on the pump did it indicate they will hold funds. I've never had this happen at any other station. Buyer Beware: Holds can drop off anywhere from 24-72 hours. Being it's the weekend, I probably won't see that $50 back into my account until Wednesday. I'll never use their stations again as I assume it's a companywide policy read more

Can't ask too much out of a gas station, so I think this is the appropriate amount of stars. It's close to where I live. I wish it was open later. It is kind of a pain to get to during rush hours, but what isn't? I wish they accepted Apple Pay, because I don't like pushing the buttons. This is not my usual gas station, but I stopped to get gas here because I live in the neighborhood. For the second time in the past year, I've wasted my money as the pump doesn't dispense any gas. Two separate pumps. There's no reason I should spend $20+ for my gas level to remain the same as when I pulled in. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. At first I was afraid to bring my car in due to the yelp reviews. I took my chances and I'm so glad I did. Ricky was very thorough with all the details of what needs to be fixed. If I could give this place no stars as others say when they have a horrible experience, I would too. Why is it that they have the is shittiest person working there in the morning!?!?!? (I will have his name) Why is he so unkind and ridiculously stupid? I live only four blocks away (cool coming down, hills going up), anyways, and I've had several times where I needed gas because my car will not get the supply from up on the hill and frankly it's a tank! I've have borrowed a gas tank with my ID and returned it within the 10 minutes that I've started the car in the past with this guy present but for some reason unknown to me this ridiculous person that works there said that he has to have authorization to do so. And when the last time this happened he denied me as well and when miraculously, the manager walked in and said, "yes of course you can borrow it." I go to this gas station often since it's right across the street from my gym and their prices are fairly competitive, especially compared to the awful 76 up the street. I recently got my oil changed for the first time and it was fast, cheap, and chill. $29 out the door and only took about 20 minutes. Thumbs up. Bonus side note: they have a wide array of 25 cent boxes of various hard and chewy candies you won't find many places. I have a 92 f150 v8 that had some age issues needing to be resolved when I bought it. It's 30 years old! I know it needed work and brought the truck down on a whim for an estimate. They were very transparent about the issues that needed addressing right away and the things that could potentially wait. I wasn't going to write this review as to hate writing bad reviews about local businesses but ever since they worked on our car there have been so many issues and a bad review is deserved. A few months ago we had to have a radiator replaced and they are literally up the street from us and we decided to give them a try since it is so convenient. After they worked on our car the hood of the car wouldn't open (they weren't planning on telling us- we only found out because I asked them to open it and show us where to add water), the air bag light has been turning on and off, the car won't start if we leave our doors open for more than 5 minutes, it makes a weird clicking sound when we start it, etc. Our car has NEVER had these issues prior to them working on it. He said it would be around $4,000 to fix. Nuts. Plus, he could not refer me to a mechanic who could fix it because mechanics don't have a social network, psssh. Had a slow leak in a tire and asked if the mechanic could patch it. He took quite a while to properly diagnose the issue which turned out to be a cracked alloy wheel. Charged me $10 but didn't try to do a patch that would ultimately not address the problem. Honest mechanic! read more

Had my brakes done here a few times and many oil changes but my last couple visits have been memorable to say the least. He forgot to bleed my brakes! Pedal went all the way to the floor! The last time I was there we witnessed him playing with someone's car making it go up and down on the lift. The person appeared to pick up his vehicle moments after and quickly returned. The shouting match lasted a few minutes and it's safe to say I will never be back. My dad tells me he went for a hole in his tire the mechanic closed his trunk after a second and said "guess your car didn't come with a spare" and just walked away! What a joke! I've had my car previously repaired at this Valero location . The short elderly mechanic(owner?) has always said "come back anytime --we will help you." I went there yesterday (6/18) to add air to the tires. I let the mechanic (taller, salt and pepper, elderly gas station employee/mechanic with a baseball hat) know that my car gauge indicated that the PSI was low and they all needed to be balanced at 33 PSI. (I let him know that I would pay him-- I always pay the mechanics generously.) He said "if the light isn't on, then you're ok." I reiterated that the tires needed air given that the gauge indicated they were low. I also shared that the optimum(according to the vehicle info) PSi for my vehicle is 33 PSI. (The dashboard indicated two of the tires were at 30 and the other two were at 31PSI.) He kept repeating "don't worry about it if the light isn't on". I asked him(kindly) to add the air so all the tires were somewhat evenly balanced. He simply did not want to listen or help me. He went on and on about the light--he raised his voice and said " why you waste my time, don't waste my time" and walked away in a huff. Feedback, please train your mechanics to listen to the clients--and there is absolutely no reason to be rude. :( The lack of customer service is appalling--I will take my business elsewhere. read more

The mechanic at this Valero (John) is absoutely wonderful! He is honest and his rates are extremely reasonable. I go to his for everything from oil changes to tire changes. Last time I went for a tire change, he actually told me I didn't need one and that my tires still had plenty of life left. The main thing I look for in a gas station was working pumps. This gas station didn't have that. I was on a tight schedule and I came across this station. I parked my car, got my card out, and proceeded through the buyer's journey. After selecting the grade of gas I wanted to put in my car, the pump didn't put any gas in my car. I only waited less than 15 minutes! woohoo! When the mechanic gave me my keys, he told me that I should change my front brakes. That was it! He didn't give me any sales pitch. DO NOT BUY GAS FROM HERE! This place is SHADY. I paid for some gas here this morning, but the pump did not actually dispense any gas! I was on my way to an appointment and realized what I had happened when I pulled away from the station because the car I was driving has a digital display and did not register that any gas had been added to the tank. On my way home, I obviously still needed gas. I stopped back at this station to explain what happened to the attendant inside, and he did not offer me a refund or even any sort of explanation. I went to the Ocean Avenue Service Station a few blocks away and put in a small amount of gas that properly registered with the car's digital system. So, I suspect that the Valero pump did not dispense any gas whatsoever. Obviously I cannot prove it because of the nature of the transaction, but the attendant's response certainly did not instill confidence. read more

I had a leaky tire and needed to get it patched up. I did not make any appointments, but just stopped by on a Saturday afternoon. The mechanic was super nice. Though he had limited English (primarily a Mando speaker), he was able to understand what I was asking for. He told me it would take an hour, so I left the car with him. He called me 30 minutes later and said it was all done. WOOT!! Cost: $15 Time: 30 mins. Excellent service. Super nice mechanic. I would definitely recommend him to anyone who was in need of a quick tire fix. I have not used him for anything else, but am open to going back next time my car needs help. Do not pull in here! For the second time in a row, I attempted to simply get some gas. Last time, the pumps were not working. I attempted to try again this afternoon, bus someone who worked there refused to move a trash bag so I could simply move in front of the available pump. He kept telling me I could go to another pump, even though all he had to do was move the bag over a couple of inches. By the time I had moved my car and gone around to the other side of the station, there was already a line. When I complained, another employee insulted me. This is the gas station on Ocean Ave that almost always appears to have the cheapest gas in comparison to the other two stations in the neighborhood. Whenever I need cheaper gas, I go here for a fill-up. The place is sorta clean, but I can't complain when I am paying a lower price for gas. It has plenty of room to maneuver my SUV. This place was great. We are from out of town and needed to get our brakes fixed. I just had the tires replaced and the place did not mention anything about the brakes. Well, it is unnerving to find out that the brakes are bad coming down the Grapevine. Before going home we figured it was best to get them done. We found this place driving by. It was close to where we were staying. The mechanic, John, was very friendly, efficient, honest, and reasonably priced. We brought out car in at 10, and he was done by 1:00. I stopped at this gas station yesterday, 2/5/14. My tires appeared to be low so I asked the person in the shop if he would help me check my air (and get air if necessary). His reply was "I'll help when I finish eating". My understanding is - if your business is working with the public, you do not have a designated time to eat lunch - the customer should ALWAYS come first.
