Growing up, the Italian community did a thing. Basement kitchen dinners. About 10-30 of us would gather on occasion in the basement bar/kitchen of a friend to cook pasta, enjoy some beverages, and spend time catching up with friends. Valentinos reminds me of this in all the best ways. Their motto is "where good friends meet" and they have absolutely nailed the family/friend/vibe, hitting the nail on the proverbial head. Debbie slings hot pasta like a humming birds, bouncing back and forth between tables just as fast as she can. And ohhh boy the sauce. I love it. Its sweet, meaty, and is really good for dipping your garlic bread in it. I will also echo others the Tenderloin Tips Sandwich is very VERY good. Rob, the bartender, is also a gem - putting up with my inane ramblings and proactively giving me water to hydrate. After several generations, Valentinos is still family owned/run, and they've still got it! Note that there is live music almost every Thursday on the restaurant side, including both professional and amateur artists. This is, by far, my favorite "hole in the wall" bar. It's a neighborhood place where everyone knows your name. Fun, laidback owners and staff and good food. Always a good time! Very reasonable prices and tons of parking available as well. Great outdoor seating. I couldn't imagine Lancaster without Vals! It's a must-try! read more

We recently relocated to Lancaster and I had a craving for spaghetti with red sauce. This place has good reviews so I decided to get some carryout. We both ordered pasta with red sauce, a salad and garlic bread. The food was hot, well packaged and on time. Unfortunately I have to report that the spaghetti sauce had almost no flavor. The worst part of all was it looked absolutely delicious! Both my husband and I added red pepper flakes, salt, and a lot of cheese in an effort to doctor it up but it just couldn't be fixed. I wish I could go in and help them remake a new sauce. Maybe the cook was having a bad night? The portion size was generous but about 80% went in the trash. And no, we are not fussy, high maintenance 'foodie' types. Bad is bad. read more

Valentino's has been in Lancaster for many years and probably will be here for many more. Not your typical bar. Go here for cheap beer and a plate full of delicious spaghetti. It hits the spot and is refreshing in a world dotted with new, hip bars. Here you can be "at home" and eat filling delicious food, along side a PBR or Yeungling, and it won't cost you a fortune. This is a local bar/restaurant that has been a landmark for years!!! If you don't like the spaghetti try something else on the menu. Places like this are treasures and need to appreciated as such. They are not for everyone but that is why the locals love it. Valentino's was definitely a great find! My daughter and I went there on a Tuesday night. It has a small bar where all the local meet. I guess you could call it a dive bar, but I love dive bars! The dining room in the back has the history of Valentino's on the walls with old menus )from 1948) and other old photos. The prices? Unbelievable! I had a large bowl of pasta with one meatball and Italian sausage for $9.00! Also had garlic bread and a browning and ice cream desert for $3.50. It's not gourmet, but it's delicious down home cooking. My daughter had a small portion of ravioli and that was delicious also. Our waitress was great and overall it was a very pleasant dining experience. Will definitely go there again! read more

Look, for a neighborhood bar, its a 4! For someone from out of town with limited time, its a 2. Service is a little slow, but everything in Valentinos is on a different pace, and knowing this ahead of time helps. I dig this place; friendly people, staff and patrons. Its cozy, sometimes you may have to share a longer table, its definitley a family style place in the restaurant partion of the cafe. On Thursday nights a bunch of old guys get together and play music, one even uses a washboard! Prices are good, portions are excellent, and the vibe is warm and comfortable. read more

This neighborhood Restaurant has been around for a number of years. It has it's regulars that come for the good Italian food, for the friends, and just because they always have come. The spaghetti and meat balls come as a "more than ample" serving and is tasty and filling. This is not Olive Garden with their pre-packaged sauce and bread sticks from the home office. This is Valentino's recipe and their great garlic bread for a reasonable price. Go for the food, and make a new friend or two. It's what the neighborhood is all about! read more

We finally stopped here after several reports of good food. Its, a family owned I believe 4th generation bar / restaurant on a quite side street in south west Lancaster city with a good sized parking lot. We arrived just after the serving time for dinner at 5:00 pm and we decided to both try the signature dish, spaghetti with meat sauce and meatballs. We got the salads and garlic bread which was the local Alfred & Sam's bread, both salads were basic salads but both were fresh and came with the perfect amount of house dressing. When the meals arrived I looked at the sauce and knew we were in trouble, the meat sauce was dark red /brown and totally overcooked to the point we could taste the sour burnt taste in the first bite. We flagged down the server and she offered to have the cook make 2 small dishes of sauce with a meatball, when those arrived the sauce at least looked red in color until, the first taste of the sauce and the meatball. The meatballs tasted like they where cooked in the first batch of sauce and when I tasted the sauce alone it also had a "off" taste. The server asked if we would like anything else and she said "no". So we tipped and left. Would we try this place again I doubt it unless I'm going alone. Note: Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. dinner is served from 5-9pm read more

One of my favorite selections is their garlic bread pizza made with their homemade spaghetti sauce on top of a garlic roll with mozzarella cheese.
