Front Office Staff: Priceless (Glenda is a gem) Experience: I was looking for a dentist, as I just relocated back to the tri-state, read many reviews and discovered Arnold Perman, DDS...he was what everyone described as amazing at what he does and super friendly. So I called, made an appointment to meet with Perman in October. The office was bright and clean, hashed out all our business, then I was taken to the back room. Good start, so far...except, when I get to the back I am not meeting with Dr. Perman. This mysterious man introduced himself, we small talked on what brought me into the office, and got to work. Everything seemed fine...until on a separate day on another occassion, I was on the phone discussing follow up treatment and I clarified that I wanted to see Dr. Perman this time. At which point, I was then told that Dr. Perman had passed away in October. Why was I not told this before, I asked. That was with whom I made my appointment to see. I was somewhat upset by the deception but sad for their loss. See, this is a family business; the wife works with Glenda at the front desk and their son, runs the insurance and finance end. I was given an apology and it appears Dr. Perman died suddenly, a man who was regarded as having been in good health, active and athletic in cycling had suddenly collapsed and died. As I understand that they didn't want their business to faulter because of his untimely death and wanted to continue his legacy, I decided to not let it deter me from returning. My teeth were treated well by the attending dentist and I was assured that Dr. Perman's replacement and personal dentist/dental school buddy/best-friend, Jeffrey Susman, was coming onboard and would be attending me going forward Since then, I have been a loyal patient of Dr. Susman.

When I finally got to DDS chair, I complained to dental asst. about long wait. In the middle of this, Dr. Poveda came in and said that she had been listening to my comments, and she tried to justify the longer-than-one-hour wait time. When I told her that I had NEVER waited an hour or more at ANY dentist office, she walked over to me, removed my mask and said, "I'll make it easy for you. You can leave." Highly unprofessional: no attempt to explain long wait, or any sort of apology ("I'm sorry you had to wait; I've been backed up," etc.). Instead, justification (which was lame), and basically "get out of my office." The most unprofessional attitude and behavior I have ever encountered with any doctor or DDS. ZERO customer service skills; just excuse and arrogance. I have no idea what kind of DDS she is because she never gave me the chance to find out. It was a complete waste of my time, and then a truly rude dismissal. I am in shock over the experience and how I was treated.

I made the appointment with Dr. Hay's office based on the recommendation of a friend who is an orthodontist. I asked her who she would go to for her own teeth and without pause recommended Smiles on Smiles. Making the appointment on Friday was very easy and they worked me in on Monday. When I got the office I was trembling no lie. The front desk staff immediately set me at ease with a smile, a coaster for my Starbucks and questions about my weekend. Honestly some of the nicest office staff I've ever encountered. I was brought back within 2 minutes by the hygienist who's name is pronounced like "win". She was so bubbly, friendly and relaxed it melted all of my stress away. She was so very accommodating and really took her time during my cleaning even explaining certain points that were very interesting to me and helpful to know. After her cleaning we had a brief conversation about best practices with my mouth and I could keep my teeth in better shape. I then had a chance to see Dr. Hsu who is so down to earth and a pleasure to chat with! He was so thorough and very collaborative in discussing treatment. I know more dental professionals than I care to admit but he absolutely blew me away with his approach. I am so unbelievably impressed with this office that I immediately purchased their in house dental plan as I cannot wait to return for future visits. Never in a million years would I ever expect it but I am actually, looking forward to my next dentist appointment! But the one-star reviews give you the real story on their total incompetence, especially when it comes to answering phones and handling emergencies. Trust those. I have seen plenty of dentists, but these people operate like highway robbers. They bait you over the phone with a decent estimate, but the second you walk in, the quote magically doubles. They will try to upsell you on absolutely everything. It took me three visits to fully catch on to their scam. The biggest red flag is just how desperate they are for cash. I was literally in the dental chair, prepped and ready for the doctor to recement my crowns. Before he even started, the front desk staff marched up to my chair with a credit card machine demanding payment. I have never experienced anything so unprofessional in my life. And of course, even on my way out the door, they were still pushing deep cleanings. Jeez! The final straw was calling them early in the morning for an emergency extraction. They flat out refused to see me, told me to wait three days, and just offered to call in some pain meds instead. Disgusting. I immediately found another dentist who took care of it that same day and provided way better service than these insurance thieves ever did. The waiting room might look cute, but the back office reminds you are in the hood. If your gut is telling you to avoid this place, listen to it.
