I don't like Valbella at all. I have been here a few times and have never been that impressed. The food is just not that good. If I am going to spend this kind of $$ I go to Polpo or Rebecca's. If you should know one thing about Valbella's, it is that it has the largest wine selection in the area. It is not a wine list but a wine book; in fact they have two - the regular and the reserve. The sommelier's at Valbella's are very well trained and are quite helpful in assisting you in a selection. Prices range from the low (40's) to the VERY high (1000's). If you know one person at Valbella's it is the Maitre'de. He is wonderful. Without him, Valbella's wouldn't be the experience it is. Sure, the food is spot on and the staff is top notch, but we tend to remember how things begin and end and from the moment you walk in to the moment you leave he is there for you like family. If you are in town visiting family take them there. They will love you for it. And, if you are in Manhattan check out Valbella's downtown. I have not eaten there yet, but if it is anything like Valbella Greenwich I am sure it is impeccable. read more

This restaurant was recommended by a business associate so the 5 of us decided to eat dinner here while in Greenwich CT. this week. Valbella is located in the old Greenwich section and getting to it is easy once you determine the entrance of the building. We decided to have a few drinks at the bar first which is on the ground level floor and in the back. The bar is elegant and small but just the right size to feel comfortable right from the start. The ambiance and the lighting level was set just right to project an upscale atmosphere. The dinning areas were spacious and made the restaurant look a lot bigger than it actually is. This restaurant sports a very large wine collection and you can validate that in the wine pricing which I thought was overpriced when compared to the pricing available at restaurants in its class and area. The highlights at our table were the Double Cut Veal and the Chilean Sea Bass. We also had a Lobster and Blue Crab appetizer for all. The veal, although very presentable, was not anything extraordinary and did not have a signature taste. Please note that I am now trying to associate the taste of the dishes with the high pricing. Veal was very good but not the best and it should be the best based on their pricing. The Chilean Sea Bass was spiced right and presented very well. This was the best meal on the table in my opinion. The fish was soft as butter and was floated on a special sauce which was rich in texture and taste. Valbella excels in service and ambiance. The service was impeccable during our entire experience and that began and lasted from the placement of water on the table to the checking out our jackets on the way out. Our car(s) was ready and waiting for us right outside the door upon our exit. Our jackets were ready to be put on as soon as we exited the dining area. Those touches were impressive however expected with restaurants of this class. Valbella clearly has the top notch service to compensate for slightly less than stellar food to match its pricing point for items on the menu. read more

It is true - the service is outstanding- prompt, polite, quick, and attentive. Among the best I've experienced. The food is very good... But...not QUITE sure it's worth the VERY high prices. Perfect for a special occasion or business dinner. Classy, but not pretentious. Went there for a corporate function, so I have absolutely no idea how much the total bill was [probably very pricey]. During cocktail hour, we were served a multitude of hor d'oeuvres, including the biggest shrimp cocktail I've ever eaten, huge lobster tails (!!), crab cakes, prosciutto wrapped melons, focaccia, and meatballs. All very delish - I could have kept eating, but had to save room for dinner! Do yourself a favor and order the sea bass. Omg, the sea bass filet was massive and thick (twss!) - I'd say well over 12 oz, probably even 16 oz.. Well seasoned and the fish flaked off like butter. I can't even remember what sides came with, all I can think about right now is the fish. Do yourself another favor and order the chocolate soufflé (need to order it beforehand). Warm, goo-ey, but not too rich so you can actually finish the entire thing. Served with a small scoop of vanilla bean ice cream. They say everything is bigger in Texas, but Valbella's is one of the finer Northeast establishments whose Texas-size portions definitely satisfied my appetite. :) read more

My very fave appetizer is the Lobster Cocktail served chilled- divine. The gold standard. Hands down one of my favorite restaurants of all time. A true gem. They have more waiters than customers, so you can imagine the white glove service offered. The food is absolutely incredible. Never had a bad meal. From the absolutely perfect pastas, to the stunning desserts, this is one you must try. (This could perhaps be only because crazy ex-date knevv the vvaiters) My Chilean Sea Bass vvas melt-in-your-mouth outrageously good. So vvas the linguini dish vvith seafood. Excellent sauce served vvith the calamari. Calamari - good but I've had even better elsevvhere. For the cost, this should be the best. Save room for the chocolate souflee dessert. I don't really give five stars to restaurants that often, but Valbella clearly deserves it. Service, ambiance, wine list, and food were AMAZING! I can't wait to come back next time I am in the area. The stuffed fillet wrapped in puff pastry was a brilliant take on a beef Wellington. We had dinner in the cellar. It was very unique and intimate. Beware, it is chilly down there since the wines have to be kept at a certain temperature, but it is worth the experience. So when making the reservation, request the cellar and don't forget to wear a sweater! read more

The food here is amazing! I ordered the Chilean sea bass, which was perfectly tender. The chocolate souffle is also amazing! The service here was exceptional. My friend actually asked our server why they don't serve gnocchi on the menu, since it's an Italian restaurant. She did it as a joke, but the chef actually prepared a plate of veal gnocchi for us to try, on the house!! Apparently they do have gnocchi, but it's usually a special instead of a permanent menu item. Highly recommend eating in the wine cellar downstairs! It gets a bit chilly, but they have tables next to the fireplace to keep you warm! read more

Delicious! Our group met up in the little bar for a nice cocktail with a plate of cheese and meats. Cocktails were good. We had reserved a table in the wine cellar which is impressive. The best place to dine authentic Italian food!!! Highly recommend dining in the wine cellar. The staff are very courteous and hospitality is top class. Try zucchini flowers with brunello for sure with aged cheese. Penne a la vodka is amazing. And the best tiramisu ever eaten. Cheese cake wasn't special and I wouldn't recommend. Costly dining but worth every penny. I went for Valentine's Day this year. I am a real foodie and love good food and service. This place was lousy. The food was so bland and looked like food from a nursing home. I ordered the chicken and shrimp dish. Would never go again. The valet line was so long. Waiting in the cold for 20 minutes made it even worse. Expensive!! I'm assuming these are one-word reviews?? No, okay then let me elaborate...EXPENSIVE. Though I'm not one to shy away from a costly meal, I thought Valbella really went balls to the wall, so to speak (what exactly does that phrase mean anyway). The restaurant is beautiful, especially if you dine in the downstairs wine cellar. Tony the manager is extremely energetic and makes you feel right at home. The wine list is SPECTACULAR and will rival any Manhattan restaurant! However, the food is average. For a place charging over $30 for a plate of pasta, I was expecting more. The meat dishes are nice and so are some of the seafood plates, but all in all I give it a 3 rating for food. Not as good as it could be. This place has potential, but does not seal the deal. The menu needs some life injected into it. We must have dined here 10x over the past few years and I think only 3 new items have ever been introduced. The specials are seasonal, but seem to come back every year. Either way - they do succeed with the most important part of the meal and that is dessert. Their chocolate souffle is to die for!! Enjoy, just remember to hit up the good ol' 401k before sitting down. read more

Celebrated my 4 year anniversary here last night. One word, fabulous. You must sit downstairs in the wine cellar. The vibe was relaxed, quiet and romantic. Our table was right in front of the fireplace- perfection. The salami and parmesan plate is complimentary and is basically appetizer size, large and filling. We had the penne ala vodka, veal special and chocolate soufflé. The vodka sauce was not extremely creamy, which was perfect and the veal was cooked in a lemon sauce and perfect as well. The portions were both split in half and still quite large. We were stuffed and glad we didn't order more. Our waiter was kind and did not rush us at all, he even filled up the wine glass with no charge. Lovely time and we will be back much more. Hopefully in front of that fireplace again. An update on my review because I went back.... Food was incredible again! This time got the costoletta all's capriciosa (basically a veal Milanese). I highly recommend! read more

Great Great experience! I have been here several times for business dinners but this was the first time personally. The complimentary charcuterie was delicious. Followed by the eggplant flowers and linguine with truffles, perfectly prepared lobster (very surprised) and finishing with chocolate and grand marnier souffles and complimentary dessert drinks. Gunny's service was very attentive but not overbearing. Lastly they remembered my wife's birthday. PERFECT NIGHT!!! So much better than Polpo. We will be regulars from now on. read more
