Having done a lot of our own research as to the different types of flooring available to us, our next step was whether retailers would have what we liked. We found many did not have the selection to give us more choice. We needed to find a good retailer who has good customer service and has staff who do excellent installation because we were not going to do it ourselves. At one big box retailer we were not too impressed by their impersonal sales staff, because they provided us with limited information on what would be involved to have the existing carpet removed and have the underlay and the new floor installed. A good friend had used Metrotown Floors and Interiors before and had referred us to contact them with our flooring project. So we made some time to contact them and to go visit their showroom. The showroom had a very good selection of all types of good to high quality flooring. The customer service representative Al Eris welcomed us as we came through the door. He asked us what was our plan and what needed to be done. Then, he made a home visit to measure the work space and bring up any concerns that needed to be addressed. For example, what baseboards could be used that would go best with the current door frames, trimming of the doors, and to consider that we may need to level the underground floor before installing the underlay and the new flooring. We were impressed by Al's professionalism and his attention to detail. So impressed that we chose to go with Metrotown Floors. Once we chose the underlay and flooring we wanted Al was quick to give us samples of the product, and he advised us of the cost estimate within a reasonable amount of time. He put the time and effort into understanding our needs and he was there for us before, during, and even after our job was completed. Reaching out to us to see if we had any concerns with the installation and if we are satisfied with his customer service and the hard working staff who did the installation. Transition pieces were not properly glued down, baseboard nails were not set flush, and the caulking was poorly done--problems that are still visible today. I lived with these issues for years because fixing them once was not enough and I did not want to deal with the issue again. The manager at the time did offer me a partial refund so I didn't ask for a 2nd fix. In hindsight I should have. Recently, I re-engaged Jordans because I need to redo my flooring. Engaging with the current store manager I was told in person that we would be "taken care of" and "hooked up" because of the 2017 experience. What followed was a 10¢/sqft price reduction (about $55 total). When I raised this marginal discount, the alternative offered was removing recommended services of leveling and voiding warranty. This process wasted significant time and did not rebuild confidence with Jordan's. We chose another contractor.

I am going to write my very tardy review of Mike's Flooring…read more.. So, I needed flooring bad. The digusting old carpet complete with a massive burn hole from a former roommate needed to go. As we are renovating to sell we wanted something affordable but attractive; finding Mike's on Craiglist I sent the fella into the shop to look at the product first. I really liked Mike; a lot of contractors I have dealt with have been kinda shady, not reliable and didn't give a sod about the result, but Mike seemed commited to his customer being satisfied. Having confirm that yes they have nice flooring Mike came over to measure and complete an estimate. We did laminate in the main area and recarpeted the bedrooms all with the [cheap] stuff. We booked the work for two days so logistically things would have somewhere to go. My boyfriend was home when the work was being done; carpets went down fast and similarly the laminate did too. Unfortuantely my severely unlevel flat is now apparently unlevel from the laminate... didn't think of levelling and that wasn't a conversation we had had. Another annoyance, and this will relate to the uneven structure, some of the closet runners couldn't go back in and like Luisa said in her review we have to shave a few doors now. If I had been home and the actual person doing to work had told me that I would have probably made them find a solution during install as compared to me now having to figure it out. My boyfriend was to call Mike about this concern, but hasn't. I feel that is important to note as Mike does geniunely seem to care that his customers are happy with the work. (And hence the late review as this was done in December). Aside from those two annoyances the work they did was great. We didn't have baseboards put in (doing it ourselves), but the laminate itself looks awesome, its straight, no gaps, and the carpet looks particularly good... in sum a million times better than if we had done it ourselves. If I would shopping for flooring again I would defiantely go back to Mike's Flooring based on price and level of service.
