I don't even remember the food being that aromatic and nothing I saw being eaten looked enticing. That's a bummer, because they've got captive appetites for the duration of the event. We eventually left a little early to eat elsewhere. Otherwise, the parking lot is very organized thanks to the friendly parking attendants. The ushers are very sweet, too. The price of tickets for our LSU vs. UNO women's basketball game were great for the location of our seats. Seating is good for a stadium, but if anyone was sitting next to me, I may have felt a bit cramped. For reference, I'm 5'4 and 200 lbs. There are ramps that everyone uses to lead into and out of the arena, but I can't speak to the accessibility of the seating.

The energy inside the arena was electric, and thankfully the show started a bit late, which helped since everyone was running behind. That being said...getting there was a nightmare. Only one way in and out, and the GPS took us to the wrong entrance. We got turned around, which made us even later. Total chaos in the parking lot, and no clear signage or direction from staff. Once we were inside though, it was worth it. Great venue acoustics, awesome crowd, and a night full of laughs. Just plan to leave early and pack your patience if you're driving in!

I've attended HS football games and the US track & field competition here. And John is correct that the seats are not super comfy; this is why my Mom has a stash of stadium cushions, I guess. However the seats are well spaced so there's plenty of room to pass by others. Back in the day there used to be concerts here. I really wish they would do that again, because that would be awesome. If you have the chance to go to an event here, go just tour the venue.

This is the stadium where I attended many football games when I was in high school. I was able to attend as both a fan and a player so I got to see many unique things about this stadium. As a fan I liked the large amount of comfortable seating. OK, that is a lie, the seats are hard metal that will make your butt fall asleep after only a brief period of time. When it is cold, your butt is not only asleep, it is freezing. If you come here often, I recommend one of those cushiony stadium seats, preferably one with your school's logo. There are concession areas and bathrooms on each side of the stadium so you don't need to mingle with the opposing team's fans, unless you want to. This helps prevent all sorts of silly arguments between football fanatics, especially grandparents of players. Once the canes start swinging, look out. As a player, the roar of the crowd was always motivation even if I was just headed to the Gatorade table. The view from the sidelines was always unique as it was surprisingly difficult to pick anyone out in the crowd. But pick you out, they could. I will never forget seeing friends or family after the game and having to endure their questions about why I held my helmet a certain way, or why I picked the red Gatorade over the orange. It was all a bit stressful. The most amazing event I experienced here was the time my team scored a victory and it marked some astronomical number of victories for our head coach. You would have thought we had one the Super Bowl except that we were in high school and not being paid exorbitant sums of money. OK, enough reminiscing.

The park is about the size of a city block and has a little something for everyone. The park made a lot of upgrades a few years back and is in the middle of more upgrades at the time of me writing this. On the SE corner was a large wooden castle like playground for the kids to play. It's been torn down recently to be replaced with a newer plastic model that won't suffer the wear and tear as easily as it's wooden predecessor. There is also a few slides, swings and picnic tables as well. They also have a small amphitheater that I'm guessing is for plays for the kids but I've never seen it used. As you walk west there is a faux rock like structure that was meant to have a waterfall like fountain but it was drained soon after it's being built. Not sure why. There is also some rope/netting like bridge kind of like Monkey Hill at Audubon Zoo to play on. There are also a lot of construction in this area for a new skate park and a outdoor fitness center. As you make your way North you will come to a small playground on the NW corner and a pretty gazebo overlooking the park's pond. Keep walking and you'll come to small little building that has snacks and paddle boats to rent for a decent price. On the NE corner is where everyone goes to feed the ducks and nutria. Yes the nutria hang with the ducks and I've actually seen a domesticated turkey hang out here before lol. The park has a lot of trees, open fields and a bridge to a small island in the middle. It's truly a great park and will be even nicer once the improvements are made. The sidewalk around the park is about 3/4 of mile long and you'll see people walking this route for exercise daily. My only issue with this park is the trash. There is regularly trash on the ground and I don't think it's necessarily from people being jackasses. The trashcans have no lids so trash blows out and animals pull it out. Seems like the Parish should invest in the trashcans that you see at National Parks that are animal proof to cut back on the litter. Other than that this place is a true gem in Da Parish.

It is big, with lots of green area for long walks, but the best thing is the skate park with fitness area right next to it. So, parents can work out on the fitness machines while the kids hone their skateboard skills. (The opposite of the uptight Crescent Park, which doesn't even allow skateboards!) It's a very short drive, shorter than the Marigny to the Lower Garden; a nice getaway from the city.

By the time the War of 1812 reached its final act, British forces were striking along multiple fronts, and the last of those pushes brought them to the river plain at Chalmette. This is where Jackson's mixed American force held the line in January 1815, and the battlefield today still feels open enough that you can picture the fog, the rampart, and the long rows of redcoats advancing across the field. The tall white monument rises from the center of the site, with simple ground markings around it that help you read where each side stood two centuries ago. The national cemetery sits just down the road, quiet and reflective, and together the two sites make the story feel immediate rather than distant. It's a quick run from New Orleans if you're a history buff and absolutely worth the trip, a place where the scale and stakes of that final battle come into focus the moment you step out of the car.
