View of downtown from the park
    Jennifer B.

It's a quirky park that matches the quirkiness of New Orleans. The shape is long and runs along the river, thus the name Crescent Park. Great spot if you are looking for a good place to increase your steps on your Apple Watch or FitBit. Love the view of our city skyline from this park! You have to go up a large flight of stairs and cross over train tracks at the park entrance closest to the French Quarter. There is an elevator if you or someone in your group can't get up and down the stairs. The park of the park we visited was mostly concrete which was a bit surprising for a park but we were entertained by a group of roller skaters that use the concrete for Saturday morning practice. We walked along the water front close to the covered part of the concrete area on a hot sunny day. Given my fair skin, I wanted to apply more sunscreen and was thrilled to find a sunscreen machine in the the park but was then disappointed when the machine didn't work. Definitely curious to come back and explore what's beyond the concrete area closest to the French Quarter.

Moody & cool, a great place to stumble upon & explore. A remnant of the old Piety wharf building which once stood here in its entirety.

Habits are difficult to break but during a stay in Marigny I one day chose to walk out my front door and bear left rather than right. This decision would take me further from the French Quarter and deeper into Marigny. It would take me into Bywater as well, and I'd stumble upon places that felt almost magical, as they were so unexpected. Crescent Park was discovered when I scaled a steep, staired arch off Chartres. It led me not only to a captivating view of the Mississippi, but also to a moody, grey relic: a wooden pier, the shell of a building. Amongst all this cool grey sat two Milennials, staring not at their phones but engaged in a game of Yahtzee. The whole place felt like now but also like long ago; I'd opened a portal to the past. Crescent Park, if entered from the Piety Street Bridge (aka Rusty Rainbow), is one special experience, but it's not always entered from here. It's actually a park with a walking path that hugs the river for 1.4 miles with many points of entry. None will be quite as magical as this but the Piety Street Bridge, if you can scale it, is the optimal point of entry if you appreciate drama and history. Done, I scaled the arch back out of Crescent Park and rolled into Euclid Records (cool place) then to the biergarten which sits beside it. Every portal to the past should sit beside a German biergarten and a vinyl record store but only one does. If you're in NOLA I urge you to enter Crescent Park from this spot. It borders on magical. * For more on the park and the bridge, enjoy this article from 2014, when this area debuted: https://www.nola.com/arts/2014/02/crescent_park_on_new_orleans_r.html

Bridge crossing over the railroad tracks

Beautiful urban renewal park that runs along the Mississippi River near the French Market District. We crossed a bridge over the railroad tracks and strolled the 1.4 miles to the end of the park at sunset. Beautiful to watch as the ships cruised along the Mississippi as the sun was setting on an overcast day. This would be a great place to view the fireworks on the 4th of July or New Year's Eve. The park itself had quite a bit to offer. Loved the bike paths and dog runs. There was an exercise class happening as we walked. Picnic tables were wheelchair accessible. So many photographers with tripods capturing photos. Louisiana landscaping featured many native plants. Nice place to escape the insanity of the French Quarter that almost makes you feel that you are not in New Orleans..until you cross back over the bridge.

An interesting attempt at an urban park, this space of riverside New Orleans starts just downstream of the French Quarter and extends a substantial distance down, containing a path bordered by some greenery and various abandoned warehouses and docks, some of which have been retrofitted into event/workout spaces, and others of which are still abandoned. What's odd about it is that train tracks run parallel to the river, so one has to cross a bridge over the tracks to get to or even see the park. The Western bridge has elevators, but the central one does not (still haven't gotten to the downriver end). There are lights, one set of bathrooms and other modest amenities, but the park doesn't quite seem to be flourishing, if I compare to what's been done with riverside spaces in other cities I've lived in. It also seems a tad scary to me that if you were here at odd hours and had to call the police, they'd have a heck of a time getting to you. I'd stick to scheduled events and clear daylight hours. I don't think anyone would accuse this stretch of the Mississippi river of being exceptionally beautiful, and the park has some work to do to offer more for visitors, but there is definitely value in being able to catch the breeze off the water and doing so somewhere quieter than the touristy areas upriver.

I walk along this park to Elizabeth's for brunch, then spend an hour hearing Dr. Bob talk about New Orleans history. It's an odd park hugging the riverfront but the views aren't particularly picturesque. You cross some train tracks to get to it, I think there are only three access points and one has an elevator. There are fenced off areas, some parts in the water that are rusted and destroyed. Sometimes it can feel a little sketchy...not any time I've gone, but it feels like it could be, at the wrong time of night. Because it's so separated and hard to access. But there are also beautiful walking paths with trees and shrubs and grass - I even spotted a lizard. The rusty rainbow has a certain charm about it. If you come during sunset, you can get nice pictures at the top from either end, with the sun either blazing in your face or turning you into a featureless shadow. A little green space is always nice and it's a good place to read or have a chat with a cup of coffee, but if you're from out of town I wouldn't tell you to come out of your way.

Talk about a little slice of SERENITY IN THE CITY!!!! I saw this place prior to construction; to say it's been a major overhaul and all for the better is putting it mildly. Former warehouse area, this transformation is a god-send. A hidden gem, as you have to mount the 96 plus stairs, I counted, from the street to the park. Great hidden gem. This park came from the ashes of the Phoenix. Former wharfs used to sit here, now the area has been transformed into an oasis of serenity. Climb the 96 or so stairs, I counted, to gain access to a little piece of earthly heaven in the form of breathtaking views of the city. Seems to be something straight from a postcard. Way to go CITY OF NOLA, job well done. This park in the heart of the Marigny serves its purpose of promoting a day time get away.

A sight for sore eyes! The beautiful modern day park is a definitely must see among the sights in New Orleans. We walked the entire stretch of park and it had nothing but beautiful sights. If you are in town and have extra time, definitely stop here. It's close to the Frenchmen market...

NEW APPROACH FROM FRENCH MARKET is well landscaped, and links to the Moon Walk via sidewalk.

THE ELYSIAN FIELDS ENTRANCE IS FINALLY OPEN! At last, you can run from the Quarter to the end of the Bywater on a safely elevated and mostly landscaped path. On today's trek I passed through the plantings in Phase 1 and am quite happy to say that they are lush and thriving. A COVERED PAVILION & SWINGING BENCHES are connected by a large greenspace, linking to a Mississippi-fronting stretch of walkway that passes NOCCA and opens onto the original park. This was an awesome place to watch July 4th fireworks given that it's a mile and a quarter of unparalleled city and river views. PRO TIP: Get a Frady's po'boy, sit on a swinging bench and watch the big ships pass our beautiful skyline.

I absolutely love this park. Its well landscaped, and well laid out. It goes along the length of the Marigny / Bywater neighborhood on the other side of the levee, next to the river. I like that if you're a runner, they have a soft zig-zagging path that you can run on, though sometimes, you will have to run on the harder asphalt because the soft path dead-ends over the the burned down wharf area. Definitely take the stairs/bridge over the railroad tracks at Gallier and Chartres. There's an easy parking lot that you enter a little further down on Chartres. And if you keep going down Chartres, there's another parking lot that makes this park handicap accessible. And this is now my favorite spot to see the fireworks. It doesn't get too crowded, and the grass and benches make it easy to camp out and wait. Pro-tip: Take a picnic out here, its a great picnic spot.

    Ship passing at dusk.

I had been reading about this place and decided to stop by one evening around dusk with my daughter. It was quite a workout for me over the bridge and back and my legs wouldn't let me forget the next couple of days. At the top of the bridge we stopped and admired the view of the river where a huge ship was passing. One the other side we discovered a nice green space that included a trail and more beautiful views of the river. There was also a skateboard park. It was just getting dark but there were several other people, running, walking dogs, etc. One man even carried his bike up and over the bridge as he ran up the stairs passing me. I'm going to try to visit weekly or at least a couple times a month because my daughter and I enjoy getting out and just enjoying the city and this will be a nice addition to our regular rounds.

This spot is kept clean. The dog area is pretty small, without any water features hence the four stars.

Registering was easy and I happily will pay the low yearly fee for this great amenity. My only complaint would be that the entrance needs more regular maintenance, as you can imagine dogs can get it dirty quickly and odors linger. I would like to see some volunteer opportunities on the weekends to help make it the best stop for dogs and their human companions!

At all times, even if it's the middle of summer and there hasn't been rain for a week, there are three large, green, smelly mud pits that are never filled or attended to by staff. These holes with standing water are a health hazard (bacteria, mosquitoes and such) but also a nuisance for dog owners to keep their dogs out of. There is no shade and only a few patches of grass. In addition, the wash facilities for the dogs are kept turned off. There are hoses there but no way for us to use them. I've seen many patrons now brining their own "keys" (purchased from the hardware store) to turn the hose on. Some dog owners will routinely use the adjoining baseball field for their dogs, as it's well maintained with cut grass and no standing water puddles. It's a shame that the neighborhood had to wait so long for a park that is so terribly maintained. There are no other off-leash parks anywhere close which encourages dog owners to use "illegal" spaces for their pets such as open parks and baseball fields. I've been hassled by police for doing this, even with a fixed, registered and well behaved dog. The efforts that the city puts into bullying/ticketing dog owners who use those illegal spaces is useless if they fail to provide decent and legal off-leash parks for our use.
