The cool zoo is a great place to bring your kids to beat the HEAT! It is more adapted for younger kids. Pre-Covid one could stay the entire day; it was $8. Now one has to purchase tickets for the 10-1p or 2-5p sessions. The price increased to $12. Concessions are pricey. An Icee cost $10. Employees are helpful.

Update: 5/30/2019 It's been awhile so I thought I'd add a few things after our visit today. We arrived at about 11:30 am and found a table w/umbrella no problem. The 3 kids with us, ages 7, 9 & 10 immediately got in the lazy river and only came out once to eat in three hours! We love our time there because the staff is polite, fun and helpful. We used the bathrooms and they are very clean. We ordered fries and drinks which had reasonable prices and came with refills! Plus 10% discount for members. I like that they allow us to bring our own drinks and snacks as well because growing, playing kids can eat and eat and eat! Safety is definitely a top priority to the zoo as they have several lifeguards and staff helping out. As you enter, they wristband the kids with a special number that matches only the parent/caregiver. It was hot out there but the lazy river cooled us off enough to walk around the zoo a bit after. Worth the $10 to get in.

I've been to the Cool in the Zoo a few time before their renovation. Always a fun time with the kids. With the renovation, it's so much better. I was off today so I took my one year old nephew for some fun in the sun before all the rain we getting this week. They made a little pond like for the younger kids and toddlers to sit and have fun if they are afraid of the splashing water. There is a glass wall that they can sit and play in the water while watching the Elephant roaming about across the other side. They expand the food court with more tables to sit and enjoy the shades. They also have Cabana for you to rent for birthday and events. I like it that they would wristband my nephew with a # that has to match my wristband so no one can just leave with someone else child.

So me and my girlfriend decided to do a quick weekend get away and one of our activities was the zoo. When we got there it was only about 45minutes left before closing but we were still able to entering and have a good time. We saw everyone leaving and I even suggested we just turn around because I thought we wouldn't get in or that we wouldn't see any good animals but I was wrong. Some of the animals did go in but we got to see all the cool animals like my favorite the flamingos, elephants, and tigers. I'd definitely go again but earlier so I could actually get my moneys worth

I didn't care for it much, but my 18 month old loved it. Guess that's who it's directed for anyway.

Ask the Community - Cool Zoo

Do you have to pay admission to the zoo to visit Cool Zoo? We have never been and I wasn't sure if it was directly inside or if it could have been on its own (next door, etc).

Yes, Cool Zoo is a separate admission fee from general zoo admission. Kids under 2 are free.

Except that our reservations were 1st thing at 10am and the show wasn't scheduled until noon. The reservations included a small surcharge per person for the show. The drinks and food were delicious. I had the wanderer's call for my cocktail and it was delicious; I really appreciated there was a mocktail list too. And we shared an assortment of small plates, the deviled eggs and the cornbread were standouts. I love when you can make a humble dish like cornbread shine. I snitched a bite of the crab pasta from a friend and it was great. Service was top notch and the space is gorgeous. Unfortunately I had to duck out before the show but the photos and videos of my friends shenanigans made me very regretful that I did.

I ended up going on a Friday and to my surprise, it wasn't terribly overpacked. However, I did get there quite early just as they opened. I appreciated that they offered free available water and clean restrooms. They even supplied nice towels so you don't need to bring one if you're on a day pass. It also had a beautiful rooftop view. Anyways, once you are past that, it feels like stepping back in time--but with upgraded amenities and machines, of course. But I just absolutely adore the historic atmosphere. There are antique weights in a mini-museum in one of the large fitness rooms, the walls lined with vintage gym bro photos (I didn't see any muscle mamis tho...), and even a crystal chandelier! But like I mentioned, the amenities are all updated. There's a good-sized pool, both a sauna and steam room, and a nice sized locker room. The locker room has a bathing suit dryer! My favorite surprise was the cafe/lounge/bar area that's suitable for working, studying, reading, etc. They even have a women-only machine room--love that thoughtful, inclusive touch. You know what New Orleans doesn't have enough of? Tracks. Luckily, NOAC has an indoor track for those who don't like treadmills. They also have a jam-packed group fitness schedule that included improv and acting classes on Wednesday nights--where else do you find that at a gym?! It's probably an extra fee though. They have a Pilates reformer studio that isn't included in membership, apparently. Although it's in the quarter/downtown, they have plenty of nearby parking lots for members. I came on a buddy pass (you only get 6 a year), but my friend mentioned that members can bring their spouses for free on weekends. Only small downside: towels cost $1.50, but honestly, just bring your own. I am so tempted to join!

From the second you walk in, it feels like old-school charm meets modern-day motivation. The building itself is gorgeous -- think chandeliers, brick walls, and history dripping from every dumbbell. The weight room? Massive. The cardio section? Plenty of options. The pool? Stunning and feels like something Gatsby would've done laps in. And don't even get me started on the boxing ring -- I half-expected to see Rocky training in the corner. There's even a Turkish bath. Yes, a Turkish bath -- where else are you gonna find that? The people were super friendly, and there was this kind of unspoken camaraderie in the air -- everyone's working hard but also vibing with the beauty of the space. I got a killer workout and a mini history tour all in one. If you're in New Orleans and want to sweat in style -- this is the spot. 10/10 will be back (probably sore but smiling).

A Hidden Gem for Swimmers in New Orleans…read more I spent a month in New Orleans visiting family, and one of my best discoveries was the city's public natatoriums. Thanks to these fantastic facilities, I was able to maintain--and even improve--my fitness level without spending a single dime. My favorite spot was the Gert Town pool. The lifeguards and managers are professional, friendly, and diligent about enforcing the rules--exactly what you want when safety is a top priority. The water here is slightly warm, but still very comfortable--certainly better than the water temperature at UNO. If you prefer cooler water, George Rainey Pool in Algiers is another wonderful place to swim. During the week, I almost always had a lane to myself, and on Saturdays I typically shared with just one other swimmer. On the rare occasion the pool was closed for maintenance, I'd head over to CC's for a coffee and return when they reopened. Worst case, I could find another nearby pool in service. Another perk of Gert Town's location: it's just a short distance from City Donuts and Café, perfect for treating yourself to a piping hot glazed donut after your swim. I may actually move back to the city because of these pools. If you're a New Orleans resident who enjoys lap swimming, you should absolutely take advantage of these top-notch public facilities. Where I live in the DC Metro area, nothing even comes close to this level of quality--and certainly not for free.
