This little park was so sweet! It was about a 5-10 minute walk from the children's museum and made a lovely combo for a day with kids in NOLA. Our kids were 8 & 10, and while I think overall Storyland is aimed at kids in the 4-6 age range, our kids were very happy there and had a LOT of fun discovering everything. Our 10 yo in particular was OBSESSED with the remote control pirate ships. I'm not sure if this is how it always is, but when we were there, they were pay-to-play, but someone had loaded them up with tons of credits so everyone was playing for free. My 8yo loved the Jack & the Beanstalk part -- you can climb REALLY high and then go down one of the longest tunnel slides I've ever seen. The place isn't huge, but it's laid out in such a way that it feels bigger than it is. Everything is based on a fairy tale. That said, there are some components (primarily the interactive components that have a tech/electrical element) that were broken and out of service (and seemed like they'd been that way for a long time). If those were fixed, I think this would be a 5-star place! read more

Cute place. This part of City Park is not free, but for a mere $6 per person, you and your entourage can enjoy some small scenes that will take you back to the times of fairy tales and nursery rhymes. My kids enjoyed walking around the very interactive scenes. Although they have a weekend amusement park, it wasn't open on the Tuesday we were at City Park. However, my kids didn't know any better and had a lot of fun telling me the stories the scenes corresponded to. It's a fun place to spend an hour. read more

Our 20 month old daughter loved Storyland! She led us all around the park and then we back tracked to some of her favorite scenes. She loved Cinderella's pumpkin carriage and the big white horse that it is hitched to. She also thought the whale was pretty cool. After paying to visit the nearby amusement park, there was a gate that led to Storyland. It's normally $6 per person. The concept is fun with many different children book-themed areas like a climbing structure leading to a giant slide that's Jack and the Beanstalk. Funny mirrors are part of the Alice in Wonderland section. Despite a fun theme, it's a little rundown and there's not enough to do to keep kids engaged for a long time. If it was free, it's fine, but not for $6. There are restrooms so that's a plus. read more

I didn't realize there was so much to do here. We probably wanted to go to the theme park but it was closed. So we decided to come here. I was with a preteen and a 5 year old and both enjoyed their time here. Of course the 5 year old did not want to leave. I had to bribe her to leave. I climbed up the jack and the beanstalk experience because the 5 year old was afraid to do it alone. It was so high up when I finally made it to the top. This is truly a must for visitors to New Orleans when traveling with young children. It's not a lot at the particular story land park however the Childress museum is within walking distance amount a playground & an amusement park which I'm told is only open on weekends. A Mississippi/Louisiana childhood really isn't complete without a few visits to Storyland in City Park. I loved visiting here as a child and enjoy taking my daughter and niece. Storyland let's you wander through several nursery rhyme scenes, stop for pics, play on, around, under the props, and the kids can climb the jungle gym and slide down Paul Bunyan's curly slide! My littles loved this place at 4 years old, 7, and all the way up through 12-13 years old. Oh! They book rooms for birthday parties, too! Definitely worth a stop as you're strolling, biking, driving through City Park. read more

We had two four year olds and some time on our hands so we decided to check this place out. It's well worth the $4 admission price in my opinion. It's fully gated and everything is really well spaced out. They work with the trees and space that they have which I love. It was really fun watching the kids explore everything and talking about the stories. The photo opportunities were endless, we especially loved the whale and the pirate ship. The dragon slide was a really cool addition as well. I wish more parks had fun imaginative pieces worked in. It's small but you can spend about an hour exploring and playing, probably more if you visit the attached amusement park. Such a wonderful place to spend a few hours. The massive trees provide shade and a bit of coverage, as well as provide the setting with a magical feel! We were impressed with the amount of activities and how unique each were! For example, the Big Bad Wolf Voice Speaker will project your 'Little One's' voice louder when reading the story of "The Three Little Pigs!" Or, the CandyLand Gingerbread House with an interactive game to play! So much fun! We would suggest bringing a packed lunch, or snack and drink to prolong your stay. We even packed small card games to play while taking a break under a large tree, from all the activities! Overall, StoryLand was so worth the $5 entry charge and provided multiple hours of outdoor interactive enjoyment for our 4 year old and family! Some of my fondest early memories are of a second grade field-trip to Storyland back in the 1970s. This place has been here FOREVER!! Many generations of New Orleanian children have climbed on the pirate ship, walked through the crooked house, slid down the dragon slide and enjoyed living in the fairy tale inspired park of Storyland. Weekend in NOLA for Aquarium & Zoo with 7 yr grand daughter who loves to read. Went Saturday morning an hour before it opened. Parking was busy but not crazy yet & she enjoyed the playground. We had a lot of fun here! Great place if the weather is nice. The lady on the boat is slightly risqué and the wolf/grandma from Little Red Riding Hood is mildly terrifying. Still I would say it's great for toddlers and younger children. I could see it being less exciting for older children. This is truly the stuff of my childhood dreams. I love love love this area, even as an adult. Though it may be odd for an adult to come. Alone. Well, as you can see from my pictures, I was not really alone, I had my gnome. The gnome loves to see all of the sights! I do wish I could have a birthday party here (for myself of course)! This is a cool place in City Park, and great for the kiddos. I did come with a friend who brought her 4 year old son, and he loved it. I daresay his favorite was the dragon slide where the slide was fire. Of course, it was fake fire, but it leads to being creative. This isn't your typical playground, but it is so much fun! You can purchase entry into the Storyland alone, or the other amusement park alone, or the botanical gardens, or any combination together or separate, which can lead to a day long fun time for all involved. In the Storyland part itself, there is no concession stand, and you have to go in where you purchase the entry to use the restroom. I do not suggest going quail hunting here, as there are small children here and that could lead to legal issues to last a lifetime. Come, have fun. Go have beignets at Morning Call before or after for a nice sugar high. read more

If I was just reviewing for myself, I wouldn't score it too high as it seems a bit run down and cheesy. But the kids love it and as many times as I take them, they never tire of it. Most of the structures are made for kids to climb on, over and under. The storybook themes add to the excitement and wonder of it. "Where childhood stories become life-size". My daughter went ape bananas over this place! I have to admit, it did shoot me back in time. Seeing the massive sculptures of the 3 little pigs and the 3 different houses they built was my fave part. I wish I could throw a birthday party there... not for my daughter, for me! I loved these stories as a child, so seeing a park dedicated to the characters in these stories gave me the warm and fuzzies. Reconnect with characters from your youth or introduce your child to them - Humpty Dumpty, Hook's pirate ship and get eaten by the whale (from Pinocchio). To sum it up in word would be fantasmical. Don't forget about the Carousel Gardens, too; it just adds to the whimsical experience! Storyland is one of the places I will always love. As a child I never realized that City Park was anything but Storyland and the carousel. My brothers and I would run around like maniacs trying to figure out how Mother Hubbard fit so many children in a shoe. While we never did figure that out, we did have a great time. Fast forward to the present day and I still love it. Sure I can't run around like a maniac anymore, but my kids can, which makes the place even more special. The only complaints I have regarding Storyland are during large events such as Christmas in the Oaks. Apparently the more grown up kids think some of the Storyland attractions are great places to hang out and make out. I wish there was some sort of age restriction where only kids and parents could go, but I doubt that will happen. I imagine Story Land was a delight back when it first opened. As it stands now, it's pretty wack. Those poor statues are so run down. Everything needs a fresh coat of paint. Actually, everything probably needs to be torn down so they can start from scratch. I took my four year old and she thought it was fun for about ten minutes. We had a really great time! We yelped for things to do as a family and Storyland came up. It's $4 entry into the main part where all the little playground type structures are. And you can walk around the entire park, but I do wish they had a combination price for entry and ride wristbands, which you have to purchase separately. The children's storybook play area is fun but definitely could do with a power wash and a fresh coat of paint. The rides were great fun for young to slightly older kids. My daughter is 7 and was worried about going on the Ladybug Rollercoaster because her first roller coaster experience wasn't that great. But all the rides are great for kids and we all had a wonderful time. We went on a Sunday so the lines for the rides weren't long at all. Storyland is a small park with lifesized nursery rhyme and fairytale characters. Kids can run around and climb on things, but there isn't much interaction going on here. There are two slides and a fire truck you can play on, but mostly you just walk around and look at the characters. It takes maybe 10 minutes to do the whole park. You have to check their website. Depending on the season, your $4 admission to Storyland also gets you in to the amusement park that's attached. We missed it by a week. If the amusement park had been included, it would have been worth it and I probably would have given 4-5 stars, but without the rides, this place is pretty lame. read more

Great place to have a birthday party - saw a party happening under the castle with kids dressed up princesses/superheroes for the occasion. The kids could also play in a somewhat contained location (Storyland), and the party hosts had given out toy swords - great idea! There's a fun dragon slide at the end too. If you're not having a birthday, Storyland is a decent value (cheap admission) that can keep a little one entertained for about an hour, not much more than that. read more

Great place to have a birthday party for the kiddos! There are many attractions for both kid and adult to enjoy throughout the park. Even though I have checked in via Storyland, I attended a birthday party within the Carousel Garden which provided many rides. Each party is held privately in different areas of the park which is nice. Depending on what party package you purchase, you get wrist bands for kids that want to ride the rides for an unlimited amount of time. Parties usually last about 2 hours, but all are welcome to ride throughout the day. The party assistant which was Elizabeth, was very attentive and provided all that the parent needed for the birthday party. She always had a smile on her face and seemed like she enjoyed her job which was a plus. The pizzas that were provided with the party came steaming hot and cheesy! The lemonade was also a big hit to accommodate everyone's thirst. I would definitely recommend anybody who would want to throw a party here and let them know that their child would really enjoy themselves! read more

Soooo cute! The whole park has so much to offer; story land is just one of the many things you can do here. Definitely go an you will find something fun to do! Storyland itself was super cute; amazing idea. But, I do have to say that they are due for some updates, some repairs.... Granted it is in a very shaded, garden type area, and this area has gotten rain every single day for months, and we are still in the middle of a pandemic and inflation, etc etc.... So I give them a pass but hopefully soon they can and will consider some updates as with all this wet and humid weather we have around here things will be falling apart.
