Very peaceful and spacious park in the Metairie area. I was in the area today for some book drop…read moreoffs, so I decided to visit Lafreniere Park since the weather felt really nice. There are a lot of hills to go up and down on. Various soccer fields are available. There's also an outdoor stage for concerts and festivals, cute geese and chickens walking along the trail way, and overall a lot of nature in sight. Overall, a pretty nice park.

I walk past and through this park when I walk my dog, to walgreens, Dennis's, cheeseburger eddie's,…read more& regenelli's. It's usually pretty quiet. There's a drinking water fountain, benches, and gardens. It's a much more convenient way to get over the levee, especially if you're biking. I've even seen my neighbor weeding the gardens. Lol.

My Dad boxed upstairs in the gym in the 50s and there used to be plays on the stage. Depending on the season, you'll see all the kid sports: football, baseball, softball, track, soccer, tennis. Plus as an old school playground it has wide open space to just run (my favorite). The playground equipment is all new and was donated by a medical conference a couple of years ago as post-K largesse. The only issue with the space is that the condo owners across the street walk their dogs in the greenspace and some forget to scoop the poop. Not cool when you have kids running around. The skating rink is now a parking lot; the boxing space is offices; they've made the place a lot safer than when I was kid...how did we climb up in the rafters of the stage. The Mississippi River trail is what locals call "The Levee". Much of my family is from the River…read moreParishes so I grew up walking on, skating on and just hanging out up on the levee-- as it is directly across the street from my family members homes. Looking at the river and seeing wildlife. Depending on how high the river is cresting you may see more wildlife. The coolest thing about this trail is that over the years it's been improved with a paved roadway which makes it great for cycling long distances along the river. I live uptown and though I haven't braved the entirety of the trail, if I found the energy, I could ride my bike from uptown to Destrehan to go visit my grandma's house...about 20 miles one way. One of these days I'll get it together and take the ride. The Levee is the barrier between the River and the towns on the other side...it's flood protection and also a recreational space. We love a multifunctional system.

Lasalle Park doesn't offer much to do except exercise along the jogging path or walk along the…read morenature center promenade. It is a clean park though so that is always good. If you are looking for a tranquil place to relax or a quiet place to jog this park fits the bill quite well. In fact you feel quite isolated if you're jogging here as I have rarely ever seen more than 30ppl here at the same time. If you are coming to the park to entertain the kiddos they will get bored here rather quickly as there is no kids playground, no ponds, no ducks, no carousels, no rides, etc. You get the picture. There are softball and soccer fields but I believe those are for organized competition only and not for recreational use. I have never seen anyone use those fields except during league play. I still like this park though because it is quiet and they do have a small sculpture garden. Most of the time, though, I prefer lots of activity around me so I prefer parks with lots of people around.

There's also space to launch a boat or kayak if you want to do that. BEWARE OF ALLIGATORS!!!!!!! The signs aren't a joke! Especially if you are there with a pet, have great caution when near the water. I say this because many people take their dogs down to the pavilion by the boat launch because that's where the hose is located. Keep your dog on a SHORT leash and beware of your surroundings. Gators like to hang there right around the corner.

The Jefferson Parish Sheriffs Department was here, as was the city police, members of the morgue (the live ones that work there, not the dead ones you silly goose), the SPCA was there with some animals, and so much more. Ideas for home protection were popular booths here as well. There were also booths set up giving hot dogs and soda at no cost to the public. There was a live band on stage. Now lets get to the park itself. There is an area specifically for dog that is small but enclosed. There are picnic tables and a couple of boat launches. You can access the walking trail that extends along the south side of the waterfront. This is between the levy and the water of the lake, so I am sure they block it off during storms. Great place to go to for some family bonding time.

We ventured to JP (Jefferson Parish ;) to play tennis last night because city park was all booked…read moreup. I blame the good weather. This park has two freshly painted hard courts. Nice nets and no cracks. Pretty good for a public court. If Orleans Parish could be so lucky.... Oh, did I mention the courts are free. They only ask that you limit your playing time to an hour. Bathrooms in the adjacent building.
