Scruffy-Looking Man runs in front of me. SLM: Are those my sunglasses? Where did you get them? Pete: New York. SLM: Oh. Probably not mine then. Can I see them a sec? Pete: No, sorry. SLM: Why?! 'Cause I'll run off with them? Pete: Well, would you? SLM: (hangs head in shame) Yeah. I probably would. If you head over to Washington Square Park, you too, could have such enjoyable interactions with the general riff-raff of the Marigny. The park is closed at night, but during the day, there will most likely be musicians playing music and bums bumming around, but all in all, it is a safe, lively place to lay out on the grass, have a catch, or just stroll on through. Note the sign on the gate that bans dogs, drinks and bikes, and then see if you see a single person in the park who doesn't have either a dog, drink or bike. Bet you can't spot one.

Peaceful and quiet local park located at the corner of Frenchmen street, open daily and close near sunset time.

This was a small but nice park in the middle of the French Quarter. There were dogs playing and barking, musicians playing and trees! It was just a lovely oasis is the middle of houses and restaurants and concrete.

By the end of the bars on Frencman St. Quiet square with some chubby palm trees. Little bit riff raffy people. Not much to see here.

. It can be a bit of a haven for the gutter punks during the day which brings it down a notch but nice to have a green space

I emailed to ask when it would be fixed and did not receive an answer. They also haven't put tennis balls in the park since COVID, and when I asked about that, they used COVID as their excuse in 2024. So I've been bringing my tennis balls. And last, they replaced the shower nozzles and hoses with very short hoses and nozzles that spray water EVERYWHERE. Not sure who thought of these "upgrades," but they suck. Just really silly inconveniences when you're already paying per year to use the park.

After a rain shower, he loves to walk in the the shallow puddles under the majestic old oaks near the main entrance. I love the walking path lined with crate myrtles that circles the park, as it is trips to the City Bark that help me get my steps in. We appreciate that it is open late and well lit, as it allows us to go to park later in the evening when temperatures are lower. Registering was easy and I happily will pay the low yearly fee for this great amenity. My only complaint would be that the entrance needs more regular maintenance, as you can imagine dogs can get it dirty quickly and odors linger. I would like to see some volunteer opportunities on the weekends to help make it the best stop for dogs and their human companions!

Well well. How in all the madness of my life did I not know about this local park?!…read moreOn a chilly morning, me and the lad packed up our two doggos and sped off to the Gretna Dog Park with our neighbor. Large spacious park with 2 areas for larger or small dogs. Another fam was leaving and my little guy has always played with the big dogs so in we all went. Really impressive park with obstacles and plenty of room to run. On this particular day it was still sloshy from a recent rain and our retriever friend, Jackson was all up in that water. All the dogs got wet and dirty. They loved it! Worth a trip to the West Bank! The best part.....they were tired and exhausted lots of energy while having fun. Bring a towel, just in case it's wet.

There were lots of dog visitors when we were there and we didn't have any problems. The area is nice and big to accommodate lots of pups. There are interactive dog stations all around the park. I saw people using them to train their dogs. Ours just liked jumping on stuff and sniffing. My HUGE complaint about this park is that someone showed up in the middle of the day to mow and made everyone leave. You've got to be kidding me? I can't believe they showed up at prime dog park time and kicked everyone out. Seriously bad planning. If this was my regular park I would have made some noise to whoever runs it.

At all times, even if it's the middle of summer and there hasn't been rain for a week, there are three large, green, smelly mud pits that are never filled or attended to by staff. These holes with standing water are a health hazard (bacteria, mosquitoes and such) but also a nuisance for dog owners to keep their dogs out of. There is no shade and only a few patches of grass. In addition, the wash facilities for the dogs are kept turned off. There are hoses there but no way for us to use them. I've seen many patrons now brining their own "keys" (purchased from the hardware store) to turn the hose on. Some dog owners will routinely use the adjoining baseball field for their dogs, as it's well maintained with cut grass and no standing water puddles. It's a shame that the neighborhood had to wait so long for a park that is so terribly maintained. There are no other off-leash parks anywhere close which encourages dog owners to use "illegal" spaces for their pets such as open parks and baseball fields. I've been hassled by police for doing this, even with a fixed, registered and well behaved dog. The efforts that the city puts into bullying/ticketing dog owners who use those illegal spaces is useless if they fail to provide decent and legal off-leash parks for our use.
