It is slightly elevated so there is not a lot of uphill hiking. It goes around the Beaver Creek resort so you will see some nature along with buildings while walking below the ski lifts. This is also used as a bike trail so it is good to be aware so you can share the trail. The trail is pretty thin so at times it is challenging to get out of the way. It is preferred you stay on the trail to prevent erosion. The trail isn't too far from restrooms , restaurants and shopping since it is so close to the resort. Definitely tough on the joints. Much of the hike was in the dark to begin, so it felt like it took forever to get back since nothing looked familiar. It's a beautiful mountain with no technical skills required despite the elevation and length. I thought the scramble was great fun-harder class 2 but still easy with little exposure. Going through half moon pass is beautiful and offers stunning views of the mountain, but I definitely had an "oh sh*t" moment when I saw how far away it was. I brought my friend with me who did this as her first 14er which is pretty bad ass! I think if you choose this as your first, you could easily do all of the class 1 and 2s without a problem. There is one river crossing and so many pretty flowers when I went. A great challenging hike with beautiful scenery! I'd recommend camping at half moon campground the night before so it's easy to get an early start.

If you start closer to Minturn, it could be a 20. Truly enjoyable with lots of variation and a tight drop off bend as you approach the pinnacle. Many overlooks and clearing with the ski paths help open up the views! It's not well marked but if you keep going uphill, you'll be ok. Fantastic colors right now(10-7-23). Get out there while you still can!

It's up to a 7.2 mile trail out and back. You can go any distance you chose. I would rate this as a moderate trail. They allow camping after the first five miles of the trail. The end of the seven miles tops out at 10,000 feet. This trail is accessible from May through October. Good parking! We only went a mile up because of a thunderstorm rolling in. It was all along a river! Super beautiful !! I wish I had more time to hike the rest! Can't wait to come back and finish the trail!

I was there recently to update my hunting and fishing licenses and was impressed by the professionalism. Abby was kind, knowledgeable, and thorough during the process, Thank you Abby! The information center and store is the best I have seen in the entire state. No question I will be coming here for years to come!

They give them many of those opportunities, too. At one point, one of them was on the phone and cheering about getting something like a job. I wasn't sure. The other guide joined her and started cheering. They also encourage the kids to use the bathroom outdoors since that's what they would do in nature. I didn't know that and had nothing, such as tissue, to give to the kids. I don't recommend them.

Because of Covid, they're requiring registration for their free events, which we had to switch around a bit while we were here in Vail for the week. They were all so courteous and helpful. Always giving me other options if something wasn't working out. The backcountry guided snowshoe hike, led by Nathan, was phenomenal!! He took us to West Lake Creek trail. We hiked for about 3 miles total. And he gave us low elevation folks plenty of stops to thoroughly catch our breath. And of course, we learned all about the science of snow while we rested. He also taught us about animal tracks and habitats, avalanches, wildfires, snow pack, water content in snow, etc. (Snowshoes were included.) Thank you Nathan and the entire Walking Mountain crew!

Fantastic hike to the lake: Roughly 2.8 miles with about 2000 feet of elevation gain. Lovely vistas and streams the whole way. Wildflowers abound aplenty all along the trail if you hit it right. Great campsites ( please pack out everything and no wood fires). Great hike to Electric Pass with slight exposure. Dogs are allowed on the trail. Smallish parking lot Last mile is on bad road and a small car might have problems....just saying

Amazing views of cathedral peak and other mountains. At the lake there were backpackers that camped out over night to hike cathedral peak. Definitely a climb only for experienced people especially with all the snow. The parking lot is small and up a dirt road that low clearance cars can reach. The path is hard to find in the snow at the top but we just followed footprints and the sound of the water. There is no service on the road and ok the hike. Highly recommend this hike, especially when the lake isn't iced over.

The path to the barn is just about 2 miles. we had 570 feet of elevation gain. all trails said it was like 850 or something like that but that was definitely a bit off. When you first start the trail is a bit of up but then it flattens out. There are so many lovely views along the way! i am not familiar with this area or not and if this is a off leash trail or not but every dog we encountered was off leash. So just be forewarned if you have a naughty dog this may not be the place for you. The trail was a little wider so we were able to walk in groups of two which was nice. the river below was frozen and there was snow on the other side of it. The trail however was dry and perfect for hiking The barn which is 2 miles in is great. Look for the secret door while you are there to a room! Would definitely go back if i were in the area. The kids we were with were mostly not experienced hikers and everyone did just fine on the trail.
