I found Doctor Vahl with the help of my fellow Yelp friends, and for that I am grateful. He is a great chiropractor and I really appreciate that he does a complete range of adjustments. I have issues in my upper and lower back from many injuries and he addressed each area. After leaving his office I feel like my body is operating more efficiently and that I have less pain. The office also offers massage, and not just the light massage, but functional massage with 5 different masseuses. Have had "pins and needles" in left side of body for two years, mostly abated by Dr. Vahl's adjustment. He is attentive, listens to my explanation of problem areas, and offers sound advice and pain relief with a pleasant sense of humor. I have referred my wife to him for treatment as well. Dr. Vahl has got to be one of the best Chiropractors around. I used to go to him in La Jolla, and now that he is even further from me in Encinitas, I still make that drive up there because it is worth it. Vahl Chiropractic is a true asset to the medical community of San Diego. I say this as a medical professional myself who understands the musculoskeletal system (I'm an orthopaedic surgeon) and as an athlete who has received treatment from Dr. Vahl numerous times, all with excellent results. I think that it's important to understand that there are so many quack chiropractors in southern California. It is often so difficult to find one who actually cares about the patient and who offers competent care. In my own orthopaedic surgery practice, I am acutely aware of this - as oftentimes I have patients coming to me complaining being gouged by the high prices for the "treatments" of many of these chiropractors, which often leave the patient feeling worse than when they presented for treatment! I can say without a doubt that Dr. Vahl is competent, compassionate, and incredibly professional. He is the ONLY chiropractor in southern California I would recommend family, friends, and patients to. He offers an extensive number of treatment modalities, has his own in-house radiology capabilities so that he can diagnose conditions during the same patient visit, and offers excellent explanations of his chiropractic techniques. I appreciated the time he took to answer my questions and go over diagnosis/treatment plans with me, as well as his friendly and professional manner in treating patients. His staff were also very professional and kind. He is excellent at helping the patient to relax and does a great job in applying his techniques. I've been having recurring upper back, neck, spine pain for about a year now and each time I'd usually take 2-4 days off for bed rest. Thank goodness I was even allowed to do this. But not to divert, about two months ago I finally went to the doctor and asked them to help me out and solve the problem, but all they did was prescribe me some muscle relaxers, ibuprofen and a x-ray that resulted in a brief letter explaining to me that nothing was revealed. The medicine helped short term but I did not feel like this was a solution to my problem. I didn't want to be stuck on pain medication forever, and even when I was on the pain medication I never felt like the pain completely went away. So about a month ago I experienced the pain again and this time it was so bad I couldn't move my head and felt like I had a stick for a spine. This is when I made the decision to finally fix things instead of just covering them up with medication. This was when I met Dr. Vahl and his staff. I called them in the afternoon and was able to get a consult the same day. When I went for my consult, Dr. Vahl took x-rays, examined my neck and spine and noted that I looked like I had just been in a car accident. After the consult he told me to stick around because he wanted to do some immediately pain relief before I came back to discuss the results of the x-rays. This was definitely something I was looking for and to be honest I was hoping to get because I was in so much pain. After the quick adjustment I immediately felt better, so much that I was able to go back to work for a bit before coming back for my results. After I came back at 6pm (Which is great because I work late.) Dr. Vahl sat me down and went over his observations of the x-rays and told me about the treatments that he could do in order to help me get my spine and neck back in a normal natural position. I was hesitant at first mainly because I wasn't sure if this the cure to my problem and if it wans't the cure it would be costly. Luckily Dr Vahl presented me with various options which I took home and thought over. Since I'm here writing this, you can tell how it turned out. Now since I started getting treatment from Dr Vahl, I've had less pain and with each visit am working my way towards correcting my natural curvature. This has eased my spine and neck pain away but a residual tenseness in my muscles still reside. Mainly from my profession of being behind a computer all day. Something which I'm planning on seeing a massage therapist for. This is where it gets good. About a week ago, I managed to tweak my back again by arching my chest while stretching in bed in the morning. I immediately new that the pain was back and went straight to Dr Vahl's office. Luckily for me he was able to see me almost right away. Iced my back up and performed some different adjustments to once again relieve my pain. At this point we are now starting to talk about strengthening my spine with some exercises in order to prevent simple stretching from causing me pain. This is going to be more challenging than I thought, but at least now I have Dr. Vahl to guide me. As I progress through treatment I'll be updating the review. Stay tuned! Oh I forgot, I was sitting on the adjusting table one day and mention that my foot arch hurt and he was able to perform a quick procedure that relieved the pain rather quickly as well. I've had a tweaked neck and it got really aggravated recently with some pain traveling down my arm. Walking into the office, it was nice and clean and very orderly. Jim did a quick x-ray on my neck and quickly identified the areas of interest with my back and my neck. Aside from a dentist, I have never seen the results of an x-ray completed so quickly and efficiently before as I would always have to wait a week for results due to the doctor sending it to a specialized center to process the results. He then went into his adjustments. Now, I'd hear stories from my dad all the time about how horrible they were. However, none of them held true. I didn't feel stiffer or more sore compared to before my appt. and the adjustments always left me feeling much better. Jim did a great job with my neck and got me back on my feet again. I had never been to the Chiropractor and was excited about getting the opportunity to try it at such a good price. I was really happy with both of my visits with Dr. Vahl. Haven't been to a chiropractor in years after my company stopped paying for one. Wife nagged me to go get my lower back taken care of since I was having problem standing or sitting for long without it becoming painful. My friend referred me to Dr. Vahl. Said his rates are very reasonable even without insurance. First day, Dr. Vahl identified an even bigger problem other than my lower back. He took a few x-rays and identified some degeneration going on with my neck and correctly diagnosed the numbness and tingling in my arms without me mentioning it. This is a doctor who knows the human body and knows what he is doing. He was very patient explaining the issues and procedures as well as the timeline of progression for the disease as well as treatment and expected results. He also instructed me on the home-care aspects of treatment. Instead of pushing to sell me medical devices, he also gave me some money-saving tips on how to fashion these devices at home for home-treatment. Out of pocket rate was indeed very reasonable. Surprisingly affordable even without insurance. It has been a few months now since my first treatment and I have been going pretty regularly. The results on the back has been excellent and the tingling on the arms are progressing very well also. I get more than enough injuries from sports, unnecessary but fun activities like parkour, and simply carelessness. When I twisted/stretched my wrist, I went to a local chiropractor that all my friends went to when they got injure from school sports. The doc there just gave me pills and quick adjustments that didn't even clear the pain, but rather made me belch more (lol). We decided it would be better to have my wrist be cured naturally than pay $80 per visit... But it or worse. Yelping our way to Dr. Vahl's office, we found out that my wrist had been sprained. After showing up for multiple weeks, two or three times a week, it healed and I was ready to roll to my next adventurous "funtime"! Dr. Vahl used a cream that has pepper or something in it to spread across your arm, stretch out and adjust your joints etc. It leaves a cool feeling on the skin. He also adjusted my clogged up joints in my neck, back and limbs. According to him, I have a more flexible body/joints than others. I like to crack my hands, foot, neck ad back ALL the time... He mentioned that if I keep doing that, I'll get arthritis when I'm old. Thanks for the tip, doc. (I'm scared of becoming old now.) Fate has been cruel to me, and my best attempts (or lack thereof) to avoid injuries has sent me back into Dr. Vahl's office in the past two years. I slipped, fell, and got a pinched nerve that prevented me from walking. I went to his office every single day and got it healed by his amazing chiropractic skills. I also hit my heel too hard and bruised the bone inside. Oh, did I mention I also bent my thumb in too much that I ripped some ligaments? All these injuries were cured by Dr. Vahl. Thanks to him (and my buddy, ice packs), I have been able to recover from my injuries completely. Ronna, Sam and Adrian(?) have been very nice and flexible with my ever-changing schedules. Dr. Vahl is a great Chiropractor. I have had chronic headaches and he has helped them tremendously. What I like best is that he gets an understanding of what's going on and gets down to business. Dr. Vahl treated my shoulder with a technique called ART, or Active Release Technique. Not quite sure exactly how it works, but it involves applying pressure while moving & stretching the part of the body that hurts. And wow, what a difference after the first session! I was pleased to discover that Dr. Vahl's chiropractic office also offers Zerona laser treatments. Zerona is desgined to reduce body size and can target specific areas. While I'm not overweight, I struggle with problem areas and was thrilled to find an alternative to liposuction.
