Don't know how to even talk about this place or the owner. I brought my vac in for a hose repair. He was very honest up front that the part may be difficult to find When he did call me back it was too expensive compared to the value and age of the machine. I then started to ask about new vacuums and he insisted on a canister vac. I explained I wanted an upright as I don't like canister vacuums. He literally wouldn't listen and refused to sell me anything other than a canister vacuum. Even my friend commented I didn't want a canister vacuum. This man is rude , arrogant and deserves to not have any customers. unfortunately he is the only store that fixes vacuums in the area do they say. He does not take checks, nor American Express nor any visa without a pin. He thinks he can intimidate you but do not let him because he cannot justify his actions legally. it is apparent he is always on the defensive so in lies caution. Gives you a price plus tax which you have to figure tax out yourself. What good businessman operates like this? I had a great experience at Vac Shack and thought I'd share. The owner is very knowledgeable and helpful. When I went to the store looking to buy a new vacuum, he suggested I bring my old vacuum in to see if he could fix it first. He checked it out, free of charge. and let me know it would be more cost effective to buy a new one. When I asked which vacuum he'd suggest, he didn't try to sell me the most expensive model or suggest I "needed" a warranty. It was an honest exchange of info and I felt like his goal was to make sure I got the vacuum that would suit my needs. And the price of the vacuum was the same or less than other stores! Vac Shack is a real "mom and pop' kind of store and I appreciate the personal service you get there. read more

Do not patronize this store! Would give less than one star if I could. The man is rude and condescending. Makes you feel stupid. He does not know how to talk to customers. Not helpful or friendly. Both my wife and I got into a shouting match with him. He refused to install an belt in an empty store. He then refused to sell us a $3.50 belt. He called my wife a moron! Repair store in Montclair on Valley road was just the opposite, was friendly helpful and informative. He took the time to inspect our machine on the spot. Yesterday I bought a Hepa filter in POMPTON PLAINS, NJ. Besides, I took the hose of my vacuum with me to inquire for a problem it has. The salesperson was rude with me, and he got upset when I refused to leave the hose with him to be checked out. He said "...so why you bring the item to my store if you are not going to leave it...". I explained to him that I was in the middle of cleaning my house and for now I needed only the filter. Well, he charged me $ 22.38 (including taxes) for ONE Hepa Media Filter 86889. Today, I found out that I can buy a package of SIX for $15 from Amazon. I WILL NEVER GO BACK TO THAT PLACE AGAIN. read more

From the initial phone call, to dropping off the vacuum, to picking up the vacuum, the person helping me was extremely rude and unprofessional. He was rude on the phone. When I dropped off the vacuum, I told him what was wrong, he told me it may be the belt, I explained I smelled burning and I checked the belts and they were in tact, he raised his voice and said "You are not listening to me!!!". I was not being difficult, completely uncalled for. He said it might not be the belt but the grooves.. turns out it was the belt. So when I go to pickup the vacuum. I ask politely to just test the vacuum. Before I'm allowed to test the vacuum, he says "you don't trust me?! If you don't trust me then don't EVER come back here!" So unplug in the vacuum, took literally a second to check if it spinner (still haven't checked the sprayer yet). I told him it's nothing personal, just have to check because the reviews here are terrible. He denies it and blames another location. He said "I do take it personal, don't bring the vacuum back here". I'm in no way a difficult person to deal with. This sorry excuse for a man definitely has an attitude problem. He needs anger management or a psychologist. I've never dealt with anyone more rude then this person in a customer service aspect. Will not be coming back here. Read the reviews first, definitely don't come here. This place should not be in business. Recently brought my vacuum there for service. The Woman who helped was pleasant given it was a busy Saturday. Unfortunately, after only a week the vacuum was having the same problem again - like it had never been fixed! When I called back to discuss this issue, the woman basically didn't want to know anything (even though I just spent nearly $80) on servicing, and just suggested another vacuum to me. I was disappointed with her reaction and if and when I decide to get another vacuum I won't buy it from Vac Shack. Shops should stand by their work. read more

Probably one of the rudest, most condescending owner of a business I have ever met. Unfortunately he is the only game in town but that does not give him the right to treat customers the way he does. God forbid your don't have your ticket number tattooed on your hand and forget the number. I brought in my 1 year old vacuum the day before Christmas Eve and it has gone back to him 3x since then. Twice for the same exact issue. "Well, what are you doing to it that makes it keep breaking?" Is what he asked me. Excuse me? I turned it on. That's it. Then it stops working. Then I get it back with a different floor piece (it's a canister) and he tells me I'm crazy. The one I had was clean and shiny and only 1 year old and the one I got back was dirty and dented and a different color. "Well I don't know what to tell you". Had a very bad experience with almost getting ripped off by the Electrolux dealer on Rt. 46 in Fairfield NJ. Read my review for the details. The owner of Vac Shack was more than helpful and completely honest. The thief owner at Electrolux told my wife that we needed $400.00 worth of repair work because we didn't buy our vacuum bags from her. This is complete BS and she (the Electrolux store owner) is a thief! The total repair, with a complete cleaning of the unit and servicing of all of the parts actually needing it, was around $60.00. We saved $340.00 by refusing to be taken advantage of and getting an honest repair done. We were also told that the price we had originally paid for the unit was 35-40% more that we would have paid at Vac Shack! Save yourself from being ripped off and just go to Vac Shack!! Bought my Hoover canister there for repair of the release latch (holds "wand" to motor). They charged a reasonable price, changed a belt, and it lasted for one year, then broke again. Bought it back, they charged a higher price (over $50), cleaned and changed a few things (thanks), and it lasted just over 3 months. Called and was told that warranty is 3 months, but I should bring it in. When I did I was told they would charge to fix it again. I left. I understand that products are generally not made well anymore, but the idea that I paid over $50 to have something fixed for 3 months (and used 5 times) is absurd. They should stand by their repairs and not try to blame "abuse" or use other excuses. Go to Pompton Electric Supply (yes, they repairs vacuums), 25 Colfax Ave, Pompton Lakes. They took the component apart in front of me and showed me why it broke (plastic part). They said they can order the part of I can live with it off which does not impeded the function - no charge! read more

I tried to have him explain the very high price and work with him to get it down but he talked to me like a child. After paying him $116 to fix my Dyson it still didn't sound or work correctly. I went in and looked around and got a new vacuum for less than the cost of the repairs on the old one. I was very pleased with the honesty and professionalism. One of the worst experiences I have EVER had with a retailer. The owner very condescending and flat out nasty, Brought my Electrolux vacuum to him twice in 3 moths to repair under factory warranty. In both cases this guys form of repair was replacing the bag, that was it. When I told him that his form of repair was not satisfactory he got even nastier. He told me that if I came into his shop he would call the police??? Man is a lose cannon, and even worse he speaks to women like they are beneath him. STAY AWAY!
