This little Gem in the rough is THE PLACE to go if you need some help/repair on your vacuum. The Quality of service is TOP NOTCH! I called first to see if I needed an appointment for service. A kind, gruff voice on the other end of the line told me, "Nope, just bring er' on in." I was so glad I did :-) Walking in, a smiling man met me; I'm assuming he was the owner. He greeted me again kindly, just like on the phone. Took one look at my vacuum and diagnosed it on the spot. I requested service, and he said, "Hey, no problem, it'll be ready in a few days." True to his word, I received a call just two days later to pick up my vacuum. I swear it works better than when I first bought the darn thing! As for pricing, all I can say is: value value value $ it was much more economical than purchasing a NEW vacuum. Thank goodness for this man and his performance of perfection in his trade! Thank you! After reading the one positive review, I liked what I read, but I really should have looked closer at the other reviews. A good while back I was looking for a replacement for my old (ancient) Kirby and was met with a lot of resistance, attempted up-selling, condescension, and what really seemed to be an almost threatening demeanor. After realizing that the young man working was not interested in listening at all, I chose to take my business elsewhere. When I go to a business I am not looking to have a salesperson be rude or combative, I'm looking to do business. Fast forward... Today I'm reading that the employee was using the business as some sort of headquarters for his militia which was planning to, and yes, I'm being serious here, kidnap a sitting Governor in order incite a civil war. Anyway, I'm super happy that I didn't buy anything so these people couldn't use my money to play dress-up and try to hurt innocent people. 2 Stars because Vac Shack is a catchy name. read more

4/5 because they fixed the problem. As a college kid, I came for a used vacuum and asked for the best thing that works, but the son sold me a vacuum that did not spin and was not able to pick up cat hair, which was very disappointing at first. Being within warranty, (you have 30 days to come with any problems and they'll fix it), they replaced the interior of the vacuum with new parts, and demonstrated that it works. Came home, vacuum works like a charm now. IF YOU WANT TO PURCHASE A USED VACUUM HERE, know that they don't provide refunds, as a small business. So, MAKE SURE TO TRY THE VACUUM OUT IN THE STORE BEFORE YOU PURCHASE. Additionally, keep your receipt and they will HONESTLY put in an effort to fix any issues that may arise. They know what they're doing, it's a small business, and obviously buying a vacuum that doesn't work properly can be frustrating when you have a mess to clean... they will provide you with a quality service, with honest intentions, just make sure to test out the vacuum before you purchase because it's a refurbished vacuum and there is no refund policy... so there's always the chance they sell you a dud like what I had to go through, I'm just appreciative they fixed it. read more

I could not have been less impressed. I called Vac Shack to see if they serviced Dyson vacuums as I needed a part replaced that I could not easily obtain online. I was told this wouldn't be a problem but that I would need to come in for a quote. No problem, that makes sense. I arrived this morning and was told that it would be a minimum of $69 in labor due to the complexity of the repair, again, no problem, that's why I'm not spending my own time to do the repair. I had the profound sense that they were not interested in doing the job so I asked about any other workarounds or temporary fixes. At that point the gentleman I was speaking with launched into a discussion about how bad Dysons are at picking up from carpet and attempted to upsell me on a new vacuum that they carry in-house. This without asking what my needs are (we have all solid surface flooring). In the end, the staff at Vac Shack had no interest in performing the repair service I was interested in or even discussing alternatives other than selling me a new vacuum that isn't even suited for my use case. I highly recommend going anywhere else. It should be noted that they also have a store at 2035 28th St SE and you should probably avoid that like the plague as well. read more

After purchasing replacement vacuum bags from Vac Shack,I realized that the bags were not the type I was expecting. When I returned to the store, the owner informed me that they DO NOT GIVE REFUNDS, only store credit. When I questioned him about this policy, and he pointed to the back wall where there was a "hand written" notice taped on the wall that said "NO REFUNDS" . If I had been made aware of this archaic policy, I would've reconsidered making the purchase in the first place! It's sad that there are people who own and operate businesses that sell products and services to the general public and adhere to such an "anti-customer service" policy! Enough said. read more

Given wrong belt and charged twice as much as other repair shops. Do not give refunds and received attitude with exchange.

Only gave these guys one star because I couldn't give them less. They lied to me and told me they would install a new transmission and motor in my kirby and when I went to pick it up they gave me a completely different unit. Called Kirby to confirm and I was right. The etched serial number on the side didn't match. The one they tried to give me was in way worse condition. When I told them I wanted my unit back I was told that they said I was told that this was the agreement and if I didn't like it "do what you gotta do" . I would not recommend this place to anyone and I will be calling the police. read more

I have done business with this company for many years, having purchased at least 2 vacuum cleaners from them. This has been done as a home sale and never at the store itself. I have pleasantly dealt with one of the sons of the owner and always been pleased with the service. NO MORE. I called the store this morning because the newest vacuum I purchased from them was malfunctioning. I spoke with the father, whose name is Brian. I have hardly ever spoken to a more unpleasant businessperson. His tone was condescending and as if he could care less about the problem. Claimed I didn't buy the vacuum from them and that I would have to bring it to them in Grand Rapids. I live in Dowagiac, 75 miles away. After he repeated in his "I-could-give-a-shit" tone I would have to bring the vacuum to him, I told him that with his attitude, I would never do business there again. As I was hanging up the phone, I could hear him cussing me out. Unbelievable. read more
