I haven't always had a professional experience here.

I've been going to this VA Eye Clinic for several years here and its previous location a couple blocks east of Ioannis A. Lougaris Veterans Administration Medical Center https://www.yelp.com/biz/sierra-nevada-health-care-system-reno. I haven't always had a professional experience here. The eye doctor Optometrists and Ophthalmologists' customer service is okay. Parking is limited as parking is shared with all the surrounding businesses in the shopping center, Franktown Corners, where this VA Eye clinic is located. Equipment is okay. Facilities cleanliness is adequate. The doors for entering and exiting have buttons for handicapped / disabled access. I rate all that a High Five-Star. I've had two issues here. One was finally resolved. The other is still on-going. Some ten or so years ago I made an appointment, showed up and checked in before the appointment, and then waited to be seen. And waited. And waited. I then asked the front desk, who I had checked in with before my appointment time, who told me I hadn't checked in and they had No Showed me. ?!? I immediately contacted the VA Patient Advocate who confirmed he saw on his screen that I HAD timely checked in. He then spoke with VA Eye Clinic staff. They told VA Patient Advocate they couldn't see me and rescheduled. The VA Patient Advocate went with me for that next appointment. I again timely checked in. The VA Eye Clinic staff tried to pull the same false claim I didn't check in and they had again No Showed me. The Patient Advocate stepped in, identified himself, and told them I had timely checked in. Turns out the VA Eye Clinic was double-booking appointments then claiming one Veteran was a No Show to make their numbers look better. !?! I rate all that a Two-Star for could have been better. The second issue, which is still on-going, is the Optician here, the one who fills the VA eye doctor Optometrists and Ophthalmologist's prescriptions. They are Korrect Optical, Martina, a sub-contractor to the VA. They are located inside the VA Eye Clinic. Martina's customer service skills are sub-par. Furthermore, this Optician incorrectly filled my VA eye doctors prescription for glasses for me. I knew as soon as I put those glasses on they were wrong. I immediately told Martina the glasses were wrong. Martina argued with me, insisting to me the glasses she had provided me weren't wrong. I had to go back to my VA eye doctor with those wrong glasses. My VA eye doctor checked them and told me they were NOT the prescription she had ordered for me. I went back to Martina who refused to believe me. I had to go back to my VA Eye doctor to get it in writing that Martina had incorrectly filled the prescription. Martina's response when I gave her written proof from the VA eye doctor she had incorrectly filled the prescription? Yes, they were off; by only by a margin and should not make a difference in vision. REALLY?!? Martina's job is to correctly fill doctor's prescriptions. It took a year before Martina corrected her mistake and during that year I was forced to continue to complain to her several more times that she hadn't correctly filled the prescription and the doctor had confirmed it in writing. I rate all that a Two-Star for could have been better AND still could be better. It is a tough call for me on the overall Star rating here as I really feel it is more of a 2 1/2 Stars overall rating for this VA Eye Clinic because of Martina's continuing deficiencies. There is no 2 1/2 Star rating choice here though. Eye emergencies have to be fit in with their availability so better to go to Emergency Room at Ioannis A. Lougaris Veterans Administration Medical Center first. https://www.yelp.com/biz/sierra-nevada-health-care-system-reno Here's the link to what the VA covers when it comes to eye care. https://www.va.gov/health-care/about-va-health-benefits/vision-care/ This VA Eye Clinic's website and telephone number are: va.gov/find-locations/?page=1&address=reno%2C%20nv&facilityType=health&serviceType=Ophthalmology&latitude=39.526121&longitude=-119.812658&radius=102&bounds%5B%5D=-120.562658&bounds%5B%5D=38.776121&bounds%5B%5D=-119.062658&bounds%5B%5D=40.276121&context=Reno%2C%20Nevada%2C%20United%20States 775-328-1773 The VA Eye Clinic in Reno, Nevada is part of the VA Sierra Nevada Health Care System https://www.yelp.com/biz/va-sierra-nevada-health-care-system-reno-2

After visiting, I can clearly see (ha ha) why! The location is beautiful inside (so uplifting and spacious) and out (next to Betsy Caughlin Donnelly Park). The staff is friendly and highly professional. And Grace and Dr. Belaustegui did an amazing job with my screenings and exam. Everything was thorough and informative, from discussing my eye drops and ongoing eye care (wear your sunglasses and take long blinks!), to a whole eye scan that showed exactly what was going on in my eyes without needing a tedious and inconvenient eye dilation. Although I only needed a slight adjustment to my prescription, my new glasses are perfectly configured for computer use, which has already resulted in noticeably less eye strain! Meagan was also very helpful (and patient) with finding the new frames and walking through costs. Highly recommend! TIP: Plenty of onsite parking; take a little extra time and walk through the park while you're there.

I did my vision check with Grace followed by an in-depth analysis and discussion with Dr. Belaustegui, and I really appreciated the thoroughness of the whole process. In addition to the exam, they got into the science of eye care and provided detailed information about my particular needs. Afterward, Meagan was very patient and friendly in helping me find just the right set of frames (of the 300 or so options they seem to have--all really nice and hard to choose from). We had a really great experience at our previous eye doctor in CA and were worried about finding a comparable place here in Reno, but Mayberry Vision allayed those worries and has proved to be a top-notch option.

Despite it being easy to get another recommendation and switch docs, we keep coming back. What makes it great, how we are treated, etc all contribute to that decision, and are all part of what makes a doctors office a great local business! For the past four years I've been greeted by thesame smiling face at the reception desk. Ashamedly I don't recall her name, but she was always efficient with the check in process, somewhat friendly but also pretty formal. Today it was someone new, and she was clearly a little upset I walked in on my phone and tried to start checking in and somewhat politely let me know I should've ended my call before walking in the door. The experience was a little different but NBD and I learned my lesson. I like that they tell you your appt is 15 min before your actual exam. This gives you time to sign and update paperwork and get your exam started as soon as you're ready. I was amazed that as soon as I'd handed the clipboard back I was being taken in to get started! Dr. Lighthouse is exceptionally personal. She seems to have a genuine interest in you as a person, asking questions to get to know you and making sure you've had all your questions answered too. The art of bedside manner is dying, and she has it going on! It's no wonder she is so well loved by her patients. Oh yeah! That smiling face from the front desk? She's moved back to the optometry desk and is now fitting, adjusting and ordering glasses and contacts for patients! It's a winning team here. The team clearly likes working here and that translates to a great experience every time!

This location is out of the way for me and I don't have daily childcare, so it's extremely difficult to visit office like this on the fly. What started to push me over the edge was the fact that the Double R location couldn't order the contacts I had tried from them previously with my very first visit with them. For whatever reason they didn't put the contacts that worked great for me on record. So when I went to try to order the contacts I wanted, the double our location so they'd call me back and never called back. Then I called back again when I was feeling less sick and they told me they never promised to call me back and to call the midtown location. At this point, I'm deciding to order from somewhere else. So I called the midtown location for them to email my prescription. The guy on the phone refers me to the portal. I told him there's no login screen on the website to be able to create an account or login to access those forms. He suggests that there's a link to create an account and access the patient portal from my email. I told him I've checked all my emails and there is nothing. I read the contents to him and he doesn't seem to believe me or acknowledge that maybe just MAYBE that access is missing from their website and emails. Condescendingly he tells me I'd be able to print these prescription forms as much as I want from the portal. He eventually agrees to email the prescription. I've gotten that just fine. If I could access the portal I would have never bothered calling. To prove a point, I removed my personal information from the screen shots and I'm showing both the email leading up to the appointment and the one after the appointment. There's no login or account creation link. I'd post a screen recording of the website if I could. I'm not inept with tech. If anything user experience will UI/UX is the bread and butter of my career. It's the fault of the designer if a simple login page cannot be found by the end user. With an employee of a small business, they'd have the means to relay the information that this isn't accessible to their patients unlike a large corporate business. So I would've expected more curiosity considering this would make their job easier. I'm sorry about the book written but all around the aftercare of this whole brand is abysmal. It's hard for reach a human and 3 out of the 5 times I've had to talk to a human has lead to poor treatment. Myself, my husband, and my Dad in Law were patients here. We're definitely not coming back.
