1) This is the dirtiest nail spot ive ever seen. They had you put your hands on a surface that I kid you not was COVERED in other people's nail dust. 2) no communication. Maybe it was a language barrier, but when they handed me off from pedicure to manicure, I waited an hour. 60 minutes. 3) they don't offer manicure service? -they only offered nail polish (no manicure, so no cuticle clean up, no prepping, just nail polish) or fake nails. TL;DR: Paid more than quoted and hated the result. Where to start.... I came in and asked if they can do a pedi and dip-powder mani (SNS) and they said it is okay to come at 6 pm. $20 for pedi and $40 with tips for my mani. So I came in at 6. Got my pedi and all of the sudden the price changed to $45 for pedi and $60 for mani. They told me that after I had my pedi done. I had to get my nails done today (anniversary tomorrow) so I agreed. Pedi was quite okay. Nothing special but I had to point out that my toe nail had a gel bubble and that she needs to scrub more. I don't have bad feet at all.... I'm not super happy but it's alright. Now the mani part.... I asked the lady (she seemed to be the owner) two times if she still has time because it's 20 minutes to closing and I don't want to be rushed and get a bad service. She said yes and of course she will take care of me etc. she started right away with glueing tips and filing them down. The station wasn't clean, no towel put down... nothing. Now I feel already that this is not what I want to pay $60 for and it's super rushed already. I asked her when will she do my cuticles since that's usually what's done first and she says with a straight face that's another $15 and not included in the $60 and her service she said she would do. Clearly my cuticles needed attention. I've been to many different nail salons in my life and never have I ever heard that a many is not included. I literally asked for a mani... Long story short I told her to stop right there and had to pay $20 for the tips... ridiculous and very very upsetting. Especially after I asked multiple times. Just witnessed by the most unprofessional, rude, inconsiderate being I have met. Poor excuse for a nail salon. We were told we could both have pedicures and little did we know after asking 15 mins in that they would be back to back and not at the same time. not once were we asked what kind of pedicure we wanted. There was a nail tech sitting at the front who we asked if he did pedicures and responding with more than just No. His response was so rude and condescending. I'm surprised this has even 2.5 stars. V-Star Nails ALWAYS displays excellent customer service and marvelous work. I am always highly satisfied when I leave. Also, I do recommend the $20 pedicure and the $20 gel polish, if you are on a bucket. That usually lasts me 2-3 weeks and even a month if it's really tight. First of all, this nail salon charges you $10 to remove any type of polish on your nails, even if you are getting a service to put something new on your nails. First thing, i can go to target and buy 3 bottles of acetone, and a jumbo bag of cotton to do it myself. Second of all, the manager who was a male didnt let me do acrylic tips with regular polish because of "covid" MEANWHILE he put regular polish on my feet 2 seconds prior AND he said i can only put gel polish when IT IS THE SAME EXACT TECHNIQUE TO PUT ON GEL POLISH, IS IT IS REGULAR. They only get two stars because my fiancé was satisfied with his pedicure & manicure and my pedicure was decent. I booked an appointment yesterday for a gel manicure with pedicure for myself with Danny and a mani/pedi for my fiancé at 12:30 today. We were running behind as my fiancé works from home and was stuck on a call. I notified the nail salon and we moved our appointments to 1pm without issue. We arrived and let them know we had appointments and what services we wanted. Within the first 15minutes we were asked what services we wanted three times by two different nail techs. (Listening is just as fundamental as reading!) So I'm a little annoyed at this point but whatever. I go look for their OPI gel selection and they literally have like 10 colors. I should've left then but I was already there and it's hard to get my fiancé to tag along. They are heavy into SNS and have an abundance of colors for that. They use "le chat & kiara" gel colors the most. I pick an OPI green for my toes and a le chat chameleon green for my nails. We sit down for our pedicures, the chairs are amazing. They really give you a massage. I was able to finish my zaxbys lunch and by that time the pedi was over. It was decent, nothing fancy, just a basic pedicure. We were never offered any explanation into other services which I though was odd, as most places will at least tell you about the different options (deluxe pedi, etc). Especially after being asked so many times what we wanted. Anyway, after the pedi I then switch to Danny's table. He starts doing his thing by filing off the old gel and then all of a sudden he's putting on gel base coats to both hands. I ask him if his manicures don't consist of water? He goes" oh you wanted a manicure? I didn't know that." Like are you serious??!? I've repeated myself like three times at this point. So I now have two base coats of gel polish on both hands. He takes some solution and starts wiping my nails with it. He goes and gets a bowl of soapy hot water. Literally sits each hand in the bowel for 1min each, cuts a little bit of cuticle, and returned to applying the gel polish. I'm thinking in my head I know he doesn't think this is a manicure. He finishes polishing my nails. Puts some yellow oil scrub in my hand and tells me to wash my hands at the sink. No hand/arm massage was ever provided which is basic in any manicure service. My fiancé and I go to check out and the price is $88. I ask for a breakdown and it's laughable. My gel "manicure"-$25, pedicure-$26, fiancé manicure-$17, pedicure-$20. They charged my fiancé $5 to buff and shine his nails. Danny actually had the audacity to charge me for a manicure when he didn't do a full manicure. I don't have a problem with paying for services but I expect to have the services rendered if I'm paying. Needless to say he got his $88 & he can deduct his tip from that. The right thing to do was to charge a polish change fee instead, because that half a** manicure wasn't the business. Its so disappointing because Danny had good reviews from his prior salon "NYC nails" so I thought I finally found my permanent nail salon home at V Star nails. However that is not the case after this experience. My fiancé took the words right out of my mouth as we were leaving the salon: "we clearly aren't in Tampa anymore!" I have already been directed to a different nail salon. I will give them a chance in 2 weeks or so. Good nail service is clearly hard to find in winston salem. It's either basic and good or over hyped and pathetic. The search continues..see the pics and decide for yourself if you want to experience what I experienced. ZERO Stars!!!!! I hate to say that, I've been going to Trish for pedicures for a year, and she does amazing!!! The 0 is for the customer service. I called Sat morning & asked for an appointment with Trish on Monday, the earliest available. The man said 'OK Come @9:30'. I showed up Monday @9:30, the salon was closed, didn't open until 10. Not a big deal, but still frustrating. At 10, they open, I walked in and stated my my appt with Trish. The man who runs the shop said 'No, she's off today'. I told him about the call I made Sat, and that I had been waiting for over 30 min. He shrugs and says 'Nope, you talked to the wrong person' and turns away to answer the phone! No apology, no offer to reschedule, nothing. But somehow it's MY fault that whomever THEY had answering THEIR phone made the appointment wrong. Wow.
