It was also a pressure free environment where we did not feel pressured to buy/sign. Please visit his store, it's one of the bigger flooring stores in the area we been to and also the best in terms of pricing. We placed our order and should be having our floors installed soon. They came out to inspect and told me there was nothing wrong - yet this new floor had dents and chips with only my husband and I living in the house walking on it in socks only, yet our downstairs floor from 1986 withstood pets and children and has no dents or chips. There is obviously something wrong with this floor, as can be seen by all of the reviews from people that are having the exact same problems. Initially, Randolph acted like they were trying to help and contacting the company that made the floor, but after three years of my having to follow up monthly I have been sent to their distributor who can't do anything. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! They do not stand behind their products and even worse they do not carry good quality ones.

I will recommend Floor Gem and plan to contract them for any future repairs that I may have.

The state licensing committee told me he has prior complaints. Here is a link to one, which is quite similar to what happened to me (his company had to pay out this person's damages, but rather than resolve it in advance, he -- just like now -- put the customer through having to file a complaint, and had to go through a hearing just to get him to pay for this -- terrible!): https://www.dllr.state.md.us/license/mhic/pdf/mhic-14-1317.pdf After spending thousands of dollars with this company since 2017, it is shameful he would treat a loyal customer this way. We worked with the same salesman, Bill, as my folks did and he was very good. I got 4 other estimates from a mix of box stores and local stores and the price each provided kept fluctuating. My install was last Friday and besides one hitch, which was remedied quickly, I am very happy. The carpet looks great. The installers were clean, efficient and courteous. We had this all done at a really busy time for us (in hindsight, this was the mistake on our part), as we all know that these days, if you want good-quality work with installs/contractors, you have to micromanage and helicopter it, it seems. We took his word for it on a couple of things and shouldn't have. When he came to measure, I pointed to a spot where there is a dip in our basement, he said they would repair it upon installation. I was at work when the carpet was installed, and when I realized a couple of weeks later that the dip was still there, he tried to gaslight me - saying they would never agree to repair something like that, as it is not something they do since it would be concrete work, to repair a basement foundation issue. He said someone would come check it out, but they never did. It's been 2-3 months now. I had also asked him, while he was at our house, how much would need to be moved/put away. He said, "you don't have to worry about anything but just the little things and anything breakable". My husband questioned this the night before installation, as he noticed the contract stated that most things needed to be cleared, but I told him not to worry about it because Jonathan said we didn't need to. The crew tried to charge us extra fees for having to move stuff or said they would come back another day after we took care of it, but they then wanted to charge us $200-300 for not getting to do the job that day. We fought back on this, so we ultimately did not pay this fee. Jonathan was very condescending throughout this whole experience, playing dumb and somehow forgetting what he said to me. Don't trust what he says and just read the fine print.

I first heard of Detailz after posting on a neighborhood forum in search of a contractor who could repair/retain my basement wall which partially collapsed during the big January snow storm. Ilan reached out directly to me and was very helpful via email which convinced me to have him come out for an estimate. I also asked 2 other contractors for estimates before making my decision but I immediately knew Detailz would be our go-to within moments of meeting Ilan. He's very professional and straight forward. I didn't feel pushed to make a decision right away and I felt like he was being honest with me about pricing/costs. Moreover, as a woman, I felt safe with Ilan - whether he was conscious of it or not, I felt like he took extra steps to ensure I felt safe and comfortable with him as the only person in the house during the estimate. Once we signed the contract, Ilan was easy to keep in touch with, get my questions answered, and was quick to set a work date. His crew was great. The work was excellent, they kept a clean work space, and once again, I always felt safe when I was in the house alone. I hired Detailz again this summer after the basement issue continued to be an issue - not Detailz work, of course.... just the rest of the basement which was letting in water which gave me consider related to mold and the integrity of the foundation. I still asked for 2 other estimates even though I know we'd end up going with Ilan. All the estimates provided were similar. As with the first job, Ilan was easy to keep in touch with, set up a work date very quickly, and his crew worked hard and fast to get the work done which included a drainage system in the basement and a new drainage system outside. I'm really happy with the work and feel so much better about the condition of my basement. Finally, we had the crew to the house to clean our air ducts. It was something I mentioned in passing to Ilan during the 2nd job and he informed me it was something new they could do. Of course, it was easy to hire him for the job knowing I'd receive quality work and clean breathing. As usual, the process was easy and smooth. Both my partner and mom have met Ilan and both have expressed how nice and easy he was to work with. My neighbor who works from home also expressed to me how great the crew was during their 4 days working outside in between our little ally way. I highly recommend Detailz - you won't be disappointed!

They came in within a couple of days and were able to get 95% of the stains up. There were boards in the dining room that needed to be replaced because the damage was too deep but they matched them perfectly and you would never know that there was a patch job in that room. At the time of this review, it appears Matt is not operating as a legal contracting company…read more Maryland's public business records show that "Matt's Professional Flooring LLC" is in forfeited status and not in good standing. It also seems he is NOT LICENSED. We have been unable to locate any active contractor Maryland Home Improvement Commission (MHIC) license under Matt's name or his company's name. When we asked him directly for a license number, he refused to provide one. Based on the information we received from MHIC and the State, our understanding is that he is not legally authorized to perform home improvement work in Maryland while in this status and without a valid MHIC contractor license. Before we knew any of that, we hired Matt to sand and refinish the hardwood floors in our home, and both his written estimate and text messages specified a Bona Traffic HD water-based finish system with three coats as well as filling the bigger cracks. After the job, the floors were not at all as expected. There are spots and blotches on the stairs, ripple marks in some areas that we are told were from poor sanding technique, and the finish has started to peel just two weeks post application. We waited a full ten days to move into or walk on the wood floors (aside from gentle walking in socks to inspect the floor). Matt assured us we could walk on and move in sooner than that, but we waited to protect the finish. When we asked what products were actually used, Matt texted that he used Bona Mega and Bona Traffic Go. When questioned why it was not the agreed upon "HD" product, he said Traffic Go was essentially the same as Traffic HD. After speaking directly with Bona, we were told that Traffic Go and Traffic HD are different products and that the system he used does not meet the manufacturer's Traffic HD specifications. Two independent licensed flooring contractors have since inspected the floors at different times, after Matt said he was finished and then again after he applied a second coat of Go. Both flooring companies separately (and without knowledge of the other) described the work as substandard and incomplete, recommending that the floors be completely re-sanded and refinished. We contacted Matt to request a refund, but he declined. He has insisted that our complaints are only because we don't like the color. While I was disappointed in the look of the stain (and took responsibility for that choice), that is not the basis for our refund request. To refute that claim, we explicitly offered that instead of a refund, he could pay a licensed flooring contractor to redo the floors **using the exact same stain color**, as long as the work was done correctly with the proper Traffic HD products so that the finish would be durable and as expected. He did not respond to that offer. Our concern at this time is the legality, quality, and correctness of the work and materials, not the stain color. Another concern is that he also insisted that we pay via Venmo "friends and family" and refused to accept the "goods and services" option, which reduced the normal transaction protections consumers usually have. Despite our better judgment, we conceded to this payment method due to Matt's pressure and mention of the contract and comment about how everyone else has never had an issue with it. He further required final payment before finishing the work and did not do a walk through with us to identify any concerns. This review reflects our experience. Anyone considering this business should, in our opinion, independently verify its current status with the Maryland State Department of Assessments and Taxation and confirm the contractor's MHIC license directly with the State before hiring.
