They cut custom pieces of back/side splash for me for our new bathroom counter tops. Did a great job, will definitely use them again!

Hartville Hardware 2 - Stihl display

Hartville Hardware 2

I absolutely love Hartville Hardware's flagship store which I've been going to with my parents…read moresince I can remember so I was very excited to hear they were opening another store in Tallmadge which is even closer to home! As soon-to-be homeowners, we headed into the store this past Saturday during their Grand Opening celebration to check out what they've got in stock and get some ideas for our future home with a focus on paint swatches as a first step to make the place our own. I'm delighted to report that, despite not being as large as their flagship store (so huge it is purportedly America's largest hardware store) they have an excellent variety of items and an equally delightful shopping experience with plenty of helpful staff on hand. Some brands they offer include Yeti, Carhartt, Benjamin Moore paints (which they were giving away free samples of), Stihl (which my husband tells me are among the best outdoor lawn care tools one can buy), Milwaukee tools, Kitchen Aid appliances, DoIt Best hardware and household items, and many many other odds and ends for your home care and repair needs from plumbing to cleaning! They also have some gorgeous outdoor patio examples set up featuring the awesome brick and stone options they have available to help you envision the outdoor multi-tier-pergola living space of my dreams. ;) I really look forward to returning here for various household needs and for 'browsing' some aspirational DIY and other home needs. Kudos to them for repurposing the previous Henry Bierce hardware space in Tallmadge.

Menards - Concrete blocks available

Menards

Needed grass seed so we decided to stop here. Glad we did. This location had plenty of choices…read more Staff was around too in case we had questions. The store was well-lit with nice wide aisles so it was easy to navigate a cart. The checkout process was easy too with many lanes open. We were also asked if we needed any assistance out, which I thought was nice. The cashier thanked us for shopping at Menards.

Menards... Where do I start? I ordered a few things online. I got the series of emails and texts…read moreabout the order being ready. One of the emails said to drive through delivery but smaller orders could be picked up inside. The smart assed kid working up front could not have been more rude than he was. I asked him about picking up inside and he said "It's in the very back right corner of the store." I said "But that is the same place you go to if you drive through. Why do you bother saying small orders can be picked up inside?" He snapped at me and said "It's in the far right corner of the store sir." Younger me would have grabbed him by the shirt and slapped him silly for being that disrespectful, but as a man now probably 50 years older than him, I let it go. I went to use the drive through, which requires scanning a QR code from your phone. However, following links to get to the QR code took me in a circular loop where I MUST create an account. I will NOT set up an account. Every account you create is one more place a criminal can try to steal your identity, because businesses (like Menards) sell your information to scammers and hackers. I am an older man and a disabled Vietnam veteran. Menards stores are the size of an indoor sports arena. My old, tired legs simply don't have the steps in them to walk from the front door of Menards all the way to the furthest point of the store and then back again. I then thought "Maybe if I just drive to a closer entrance." Well, there are other doors, but they don't open from outside. Apparently they choose to presumptively accuse me and everybody else entering the store of intending to slip in and out of that door without paying for a bag of wing nuts... And it's not like you really save a ton of money shopping there. Lowes, Home Depot, Walmart... there are all within a dollar or so on everything they sell. You don't really "save more money at Menards". So, rude employees, demanding that everybody open an account so they can spam your email, and an extremely uncomfortable store experience for older people with mobility issues will keep me out of there forever. Now let's see how long they delay sending me a refund for the order I just cancelled. So call these people out for how awful the customer experience is.
