Overall, this wasn't a bad experience. I'd probably go back for consistency of knowing what I'm gonna get. Great service, a nice beach for snorkeling, clean restrooms, a few pools, shopping, food/snacks.
This beach is a $12 taxi ride from the port, and since we worked a deal with our cab driver (who gave us many options and wasn't biased to any particular spot) upon arrival, he walked us to the front. We paid $20 for entry for my mom who doesn't drink (but they did give her a non-alcohol drink coupon); $35/person for entry + AYC drink; price increased if you want the lunchtime buffet, which we didn't need or want. They accept cash and credit card.
First, let me address all the revs that complain about the rocky beach. If you do your research beforehand, you will be informed this is a rocky beach. It's best for snorkeling, jet skis, kayaking. It's not ideal for swimmers (kids or weak swimmers who don't like choppy waters on a windy day). The day I went, the water was clear and there wasn't trash, per a few other reviews. It's kinda interesting to see the many Americans on the beach scared of the waves and complaining about the rocks and choppy waters - it's mother nature. If you want sandy beaches, this is not your spot. Find a bay with smooth shores. And again, do your research.
Service was great (we had Jose Luis), and entry includes beach chairs and umbrellas, but get there early to get a spot. Yes, the drink cups are small, but at AYC-drink, they kept 'em coming. There are some pergolas in the dining area plus cabanas for massages (which are ~$100 USD, more than you'd pay at other places along a cruise tour of the Western Caribbean). For snorkeling, we had Angel lead my mom and I with gear, instruction, and a intimate tour of the sea... well, within the area of the roped off beach. He did a lot of handholding (literally) and even dove down underwater to directly point to star fish, manta ray, stingrays, coral, and other unique fish. For snacks, all we ordered was the chips 'n' guac. Guac was good, chips were baaaad. Tasted like old oil.
Overall, we had a great time (with mariachis included; just tip!). And tip your servers - they work hard running around in the heat. read more
