Utopia Games and Collectibles - Their products - Hobby Shops Near Me - Modesto, California

This place is huge, and the staff inside are super friendly and so down to earth. They sell a very big selection of video games, especially for retro lovers like me. Everything is displayed quite well and spread out, making it easy to browse through each of the aisles to see what they have. Prices are fair and in line with the online retail market. They also offer disc resurfacing and console repairs as well! The store also specializes in trading card games like Pokemon and Magic. When I stopped by to explore the store, I met some really nice staff and customers. It felt like a great spot to shop or just hang out with friends who share the same hobbies. They got a little bit of everything and also host weekly card tournaments too! I got to witness a live Magic the Gathering event on my random visit, which was a fun experience and gave me a good feeling of nostalgia. I definitely will be coming back whenever I am in the area visiting from the city. read more

The customer service here is terrible overall. Most of the employees seem more focused on chatting with each other rather than actually helping customers... When they do help they are very rude and make me feel like I'm an inconvenience to them, like I'm interrupting their conversation or wasting their time. This has especially been my experience with an employee by the name of "Alberto", who has been extremely rude and always seems miserable being there. I've never felt so unwelcome at a place that I was genuinely putting my money into. I'm not saying that every employee is this way but there is more bad than there is good. A word of suggestion: hire employees who actually have customer service skills and make customers feel welcomed instead of employees who act miserable and bothered whenever they have to help someone read more

Tried multiple times with this place ... super cool selection of games and product however the customer service is awful. Both times trying to buy cards and it was impossible to get the guys behind the counters attention . One kept moving product then was yelled at by another employee to not do that and answer the phone . Again not either of them acknowledged us. Then the yelling dude went back over and just kept talking about his weekend with his friends . Since then we've thankfully found much nicer stores with people who actually wanna help people and makes sales. read more

They have a great selection of cards, video games, and an awesome consistent card gaming community. They host plenty of events, and my selling / buying experience has been positive. This is one of my favorite spots to check out whenever I am in Modesto, they especially have a display filled with One Piece which is my favorite TCG. read more

We've been regular customers at Utopia for MTG products and singles, but after this experience, we won't be returning. On Tuesday, I called ahead to ask about trading in a sealed TCG product. I was told to come back Wednesday when a specific employee would be there and that the trade could be done for either cash or store credit. On Wednesday at 4:48 pm, I called again to confirm the specific sealed TCG product I'd bring in before driving across town after work. I was told they could do store credit only, which was completely fine, and I confirmed I'd be there before 5:15 pm. I arrived at 5:12 pm and went straight to the trade-in counter, only to be told they couldn't help me because the specific employee had already left, and apparently leaves at 4:30 pm. No one took responsibility, no solution was offered, and despite explaining that I had called twice and was explicitly told to come in, I was basically told "there's nothing we can do." That's unacceptable customer service, especially for a store we've consistently supported. If you can't honor what your staff tells customers over the phone, don't give the green light for people to rearrange their schedules and drive across town. Take your business to Collector's Ward in Oakdale instead where you'll find great product and actual customer service there. read more

I've been looking for Majoras' Mask for the 3DS for a month now, and I've been checking these guys out once a week to see if they have it in stock. Whether it be over the phone or in person the staff is always so friendly and was always encouraging me to keep searching/checking back with them. The final time I called and they did have it in stock, they were kind enough to put it on hold for me until I got off work. Very grateful that I was able to pick it up and they were happy I came in for it after checking for so long lol. Great store thanks again! read more

Tons of video games at very reasonable/competitive prices. Highly recommend this place.

Been here a few times with my daughter for Pokemon Cards. They are amazing and have great stock that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. This will be our shop going forward. read more

Love this place but the fat guys with emo hair in the early shift has horrible attitude and breaths too loud.

Only card shop/game store I shop at now. The staff is always friendly and very helpful. The store is clean and well organized. If you're into table top games, card games, video games, etc. they've pretty much got everything you need. Their prices are fair and they give you good deals on trade-ins. I haven't gone to any yet, but I see them putting on a lot of events for things like MTG tournaments and what not. Seems like they've done a lot to build up the gaming community here in Modesto. Solid shop. I've got nothing but good things to say about it. read more

This place has an awesome selection of retro games but I specifically like this place for the single Pokemon cards they sell. I've been to a few card shops in the 209 and usually leave unhappy with how overly priced some of the single Pokemon cards are but this place prices the majority of the single ungraded Pokemon cards close to market value. Its good for everyone who enjoys the hobby read more

An updated review! 3 years later and the community is still as welcoming as ever. Staff here is accommodating. Utopia is a great place for beginning and expert TCG players. My boyfriend and I are here almost every other Saturday for their local One Piece tournament. Their selection of games/figurines and single cards as well as packs are abundant. read more

They have very bad customer service. Their employees are rude and disrespectful. They don't treat disabled people with respect.

I've bought multiple packs of Pokemon cards they put together at different times over span of about a month realized many of the cards were fake out of 25 card packs 10 I can see are at least fake (dark, thick paper or laminated feeling and faded, thick blurry words) didn't realize till we had bought maybe 6 packs that sooo many are fake not to mention the new packs they do sell are marked way way up. read more

I came in looking for some games and to check out this shop since I recently moved to modesto. The staff was very rude and unclear about the selection and products they had. When asked about pokemon related games, I was told that "it's in a corner" and gestured towards the general area where it should be, but I ended up having to look around. The atmosphere was very uninviting and uncomfortable. I don't think I'd come here again. read more

poor customer service I was waiting for 15 minutes and nobody helped finally they did and they didn't even have what I wanted

The shop is amazing. They keep expanding and try to provide all card games and board games across the board no matter how small the play group. They do a fantastic job and keeping a community alive and thriving. The willingness to grow and change with the community is what keeps this store so great. Always the best prices I can find, a wide variety of product. If you can't find it in store they can probably help you find it at the best price. 10/10 game store! read more

This place has lots of great stuff. TCG, video games tabletop war games, standard nerd fare. There's lots of space in the back to play TCGs and tabletop games. If you're looking to play DnD etc there's lots of games running for old and new players. The staff are super friendly and helpful. They'll do there best to accommodate you if your looking to buy or sell. Pls support your local game store! read more

This place is so cool. They had old games and game systems in stock. I had so much fun looking through all the PS games I remember playing as a kid. If you're looking for any old games, systems or want any gaming accessories, this is the place to go. We bought a PS3 and we cannot wait to play with our kids. Great place!!! These guys are awesome. Super nice. You can tell they really want to build a positive community. When I walked in I felt super welcome. And never felt like they tried to take advantage with pricing. Pricing was always fair. Which is great. Definitely check them out. If you want magic or Lorcana. This is a great place to play and buy cards. Plus they also have tons of video games and dnd stuff too. Nerd out all you want. read more

I just moved here and was looking for a new game shop in town. Both times I went in two different employees were very rude and unhelpful. It seemed like the last thing they want d to do was speak to me or help me find what I needed. read more

Hands down the best game/hobby/collectible store in a 100 mile radius. Their selection of Pokemon, D&D, MTG, and video games is 2nd to none. The central valley is lucky to have this store, most stores this large relocate to the bay area and increase their prices. Utopia has grown exponentially over the last 3-4 years but have kept their prices steady and fair. On top of all of that, Cody and Brian are also just super chill dudes who create a welcoming and fun atmosphere. If you come in regularly, they recognize you and treat you like family. They've been my go-to store for years and will continue to be for a long time. Thanks for destroying my wallet fellas, well played! read more

Love the new store! The entrance is great and inviting for gamers. I have been to other stores that are staffed with awkward people and they make you feel put-off. The staff at Utopia Games were very friendly. The owner (sorry forgot his name) helped me and offered me a few card sleeves and only needed 3 for mailers. He lost the sale of requiring me to buy a larger box for only three, but he gained someone who will go out of their way to help his store succeed in its new location. read more

Fantastic shop and the owner is WONDERFUL! Went in for a quick gift and question and they had everything I needed.

Great customer service. Everyone working is very helpful. Great pricing on cards and a large selection

The Best Store in all of Modesto for games and TCG !!! If you want good deals and great vibes go to Utopia

Recently got back into Pokemon cards! Came in here to sell some of my old full arts and felt like I got a good deal in store credit. The owner and workers were really friendly and it was fun chattin' with them! From what I could tell they have a solid assortment of other cards (Magic and Yugioh at least), vintage games, and other hobby themes! read more

Will never shop here again!!! Brought my son here on his 9th birthday to pick out some new Pokémon cards for his Birthday. The staff was nice and patient with my son as he was deciding on what he wanted. We bought over $80 worth of Pokémon tins and boxes. When we got home and opened one of the boxes, the card packs were already opened and not one of the packs had a code card nor even a hollow or reverse hollow all crap cards. At least we got the jumbo and promo card out of it. My husband tried to take the box back to at least get our $20 from the box that was bogus and of course no refunds. They definitely lost a customer. We will stick to Walmart and Target for Pokémon cards in the future. read more
