I'm jealous of everyone who gets to grow up in the Rochester area with this library in their town!…read moreDon't get me wrong, I love love LOVE my local library that I grew up with, and I've definitely visited a ton of libraries throughout my lifetime, but Rochester puts most of those to shame (excluding those truly massive, major city libraries) with the sheer size, volume, organization, technology-forwardness that is contained within these walls, and I love it so much! As an adult living in Rochester, my experience with the library is probably a bit different than it would be as a kid, but I've been working hard to take advantage of all the Rochester has to offer me as much as I can! Naturally, I have a library card and check out books regularly from here. They have a great system of organization of their books in the building, so it's easy to browse my areas of interest (fiction, young adult, romance, etc. - all on the second floor) and their online system for you to check your account and peruse the entire catalog/place holds is also great! It could be a bit more user friendly, but it's overall really intuitive to navigate! I have yet to visit the Bookmobile, which a lot of books I typically want are located in, but placing a hold on books and getting texted when your holds are available for pickup has been so easy. You get to designate where you want to pick up your books and I have mine set to the library's drive thru and it might be my favorite thing that the library has to offer! The drive thru is set up SO nicely. I've come here with random people in my car as well and they always remark on this too as a unique feature that not many libraries have to offer. To pick up books, I'll buzz in to the circulation desk and someone will come to the window to help me, but just to return books, there's an automated slot that opens when you hover a book near it, exposing a conveyor belt for you to place books on to return. The returns are processed basically immediately, so it's truly all so efficient, which I'm absolutely obsessed with! Not to mention, the library is located in such a beautiful area of downtown Rochester. There is a whole pathway that wraps around the back of the library and follows Paint Creek, which you can take into the heart of downtown or all the way to the municipal park. I've walked this path many times, and I always love the portion that passes by the library because the library has put all these informative / interactive signs up and has some seriously beautiful landscaping all around it for people to enjoy. The beautiful surroundings also make the library such an ideal place to STUDY because they have literal floor to ceiling glass windows that you can park yourself at a table in front of that look out into the trees. As an adult, I do try to find as many opportunities to come here to study or work as I can because I just want to utilize every excuse to come here. I love this library so much!

Only thing I did not like, was the fact that you need a library card to do anything in there. To get a library card, you must be a resident of Rochester Hills. You can't even access the computers without a library card

We recently moved from Shelby Twp. to Washington MI. Within a week of moving in I was figuring out…read morewhat libraries were available in our new city. While in the process of packing and moving, the kids and I took a break from visiting our library. I didn't want to borrow material and then possibly loose items during the move. The Graubner Library is located just north of 30 Mile Rd, on Van Dyke and was the closest to our new home. On our 1st visit I was throughly impressed. Not only with the size and amenities available at this public library but with the staff, that was more than welcoming, friendly and helpful. They signed me and 3 of my children up for our own library cards. My kids got a kick out of having their own cards, as this was a first for them. Since moving to our new home we have been to this library a half a dozen times, in just 8 weeks. We have borrowed approximately 30 items, including books, magazines and DVDs. Can you tell we really love the library! This library, as with all other libraries I've been to gets 5 Stars from me. How can they not!? This is a FREE service and resource center available to EVERYONE!! Kids and adults should really take advantage and make use of your public library. People "read" too much on their phones/devices. I've been saying, for years, books will soon be extinct, and then what!?! That would be a sad day, to not have anymore documented text/reading material. It will be a hard sought after thing like the Bible in the Book of Eli. (Haven't seen it- go to the library and borrow it! Fantastic movie with Denzel Washington) Pick up a book. Turn real pages. Read to your kids and elders. Read for your own knowledge and take yourself on an adventure of the imagination. Borrow a book on a hobby you want to start or something you want to learn to do. Support your local library and tell the librarians Thank You for all they do! Side note, this library has an amazing kids section, offers MANY free clubs, events, activities for both kids and adults. It also has tons of PC for your use. DVD rentals are FREE and don't have late charges. There is a 24 hour drop box for returns. Oh, and in case you're forgotten what a library is- cuz you haven't stepped foot into one since grade school----" a library is a collection of materials, books or media that are easily accessible for use and not just for display purposes. It is responsible for housing updated information in order to meet the user's needs on a daily basis. A library provides physical (hard copies documents) or digital access (soft copies) materials, and may be a physical location or a virtual space, or both. A library's collection can include printed materials and other physical resources in many formats such as DVD, CD and Cassette as well as access to information, music or other content held on bibliographic databases." There is no waiting on the 25 computers not to mention wireless though out the building. Check out the new WiFi hot spot in the reference department. Their DVD collection is to die for. I see so many DVDs to choose from. They have a Lucky Day collection with all the new materials. This is so cool. It is your Lucky Day when you get the newest released movies and books. They have an awesome youth department. They have programs for children starting at birth. The summer reading program is the best ever. Last year they rewarded the children with fake money. The children spent the money on prizes but they had to count and keep track of the amount they could spend. The children just loved being in charge of their money and picking the prizes they wanted. Neat idea! They have the coolest teen programs. Dr. Who, Teen game night, Hunger games night, and a teen writing club just to name a few. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. I will visit again because I can't wait to see what's up this summer.
