Wow this library is so massive. We always went to the new park next to it and never went inside. I usually rent books on the libby app too. We decided to stop in because we heard they have tonies box to rent out. The second floor on the right side is a massive children's area. They have tables and chairs. They have a lot of little toy areas that they can play with. They have an imaginary play puppet area too. When you check out, they have a self checkout where you can scann the card and then the items. They have bags to check out too for carrying the books in. You can print a receipt which will tell you when items are due back. I also took a photo just in case. The desks have people working there that are super helpful. They answered so many questions. My husband went to the other side up top and looked at some books while the kids were playing. They also have activities and storytime classes that you can attend. A beautiful library in the Macomb County, Michigan area. The Friends of the Library bookstore is right there in the middle of the floor as you enter the library, so you don't have to worry about the store closing before the library closes. The payment for used books is very reasonable and you put the money in the box based on the honor system. As you enter the library you see to the left the checkout area where you can self-check-out or have a human (shocking, right) check out your books for you. The staff here are very knowledgeable and helpful. As you enter, look to your right and you will see carts, wheelchairs and scooters to make your visit more mobile for the less-abled patrons. Straight ahead as you enter you will see a large staircase that leads to the business and the children's areas. Throughout the library you will find comfortable seating. Also upstairs you will find a puzzle table where you can participate in putting together a puzzle. Bring your children here so they can spend valuable hours soaking up the fun that a library and books can bring. Bring yourself here just to get lost in all the media you can soak up and be entertained with. A wonderful resource! read more

I've been utilizing the Clinton Macomb libraries for a long time. I go through dozens of books, DVDs and CDs a year. The staff here is so incredibly nice and helpful. They once helped me fax something (yeah, people still use fax machines! So weird). I had to help my mum file her worker's compensation forms while she was in the hospital. The librarian let me tell her all about my mum's crazy accident. They will print tax forms out for free. If you get a library card you can utilize a Michigan Activity Pass which offers discounts on certain parks and the like. There are free classes but most of the ones that interest me are just for senior citizens. I kind of can't wait to get old. Libraries kick ass. read more

This is an updated review and I still give our library 5 stars. We've used it this year more than ever, mainly checking out movies and music, and of course books. My husband is an avid reader and I'm an avid music fan so between the two of us, we're coming here a lot. This past winter, we found lots of good movies to watch on the cold winter nights. I didn't know they had so many documentaries and non-fiction DVD's until I asked one day where they were. They're actually tucked away upstairs and on shelving rather than the more convenient DVD drawers. They're harder to browse through because you have to crane your neck sideways to see the titles. The automated checkout system is super easy to use and the drive through return system is a great convenience. We're fortunate to have a library for the blind on the main floor. The reservation holds area is convenient and close to the main door for easy running in to grab your hold and check it out. There's plenty of seating upstairs and down for reading or studying. There's a small area where beverages are offered with a few small tables to sit at. They have an elevator or a huge stairway to venture upstairs where there is so much more to browse through. The children's area is large with interactive computers for the kids to learn the beginning techniques of technology usage. There's a puppet theater and some large toys to play on and explore. There's even a play room where the doors can be shut and your child can play without disturbing others. They even have smaller rooms where you can take a small group of kids and read to them. The book and DVD selections for the kids is vast. A whole floor dedicated to children and adolescents... what more could you ask for! There is plenty of seating, couches and chairs to curl up in and read books or magazines and I love reading next to the fireplace. The audio book selection is nice as well. There are meeting and study group rooms.... So many amenities, too little time for one visit. Oh and I can't forget to mention their website which is filled with so much information and worthy of a peek when you have the opportunity to check it out! Also, their quarterly newsletter is filled with all kinds of news and classes and programs for all ages! The one thing parents of little ones have to keep in mind is to teach children to be quiet in a library where others who are trying to study or read. At times we've seen first hand children using outdoor voices and running around which is a distraction to those trying to enjoy the peace and quiet which a library is known for. This is usually the exception but it's a good idea to keep this valuable teaching tool in mind and offer a life long lesson of demonstrating to our little ones the proper usage of a library and to enjoy the many offerings our beautiful facility has to offer. We have one of the best libraries I've been to and we're fortunate to have it so close and well stocked and maintained. read more

I love going to the library but I don't understand why it often smells of urine or one time, when I had bedbugs get on me when I was sitting on the couch. I know libraries seem to attract the homeless on hot summer days and I'm not sure what the respectful way to address this is but the stench of urine is causing me to gag and I'm trying to get some work done here. read more

We loved coming here. That was before a librarian started giving me nasty facial expressions and shaking her finger at me, yelling and commanding my 2-year-daughter to do something, and then having a very long conversation with my 4-year-old son. That was the alarming bit. Treating my son as if he were the adult in this situation. He became very somber and bowed his head. He nodded. I became thoroughly disgusted and am so bitter about this library now. She then turned to me and shook her finger at me, agitated. Her fury and frustration were apparent. I don't care! Finally I just shook my head and pointed to my ear. Understanding dawned. But she already treated my son like he was the adult. She'd already spoken to him and put him in charge of listening and being obedient rather than trying to resolve the situation with me. She was still really pissy at me when she wrote her note. I am not pleased with the incident. My daughter is 2. She takes her shoes off multiple times per visit at this library and it is huge. I've had to search the teen section and find expensive rain boots, and other shoes, as a single mom of two living well below the poverty line. So now I just take the shoes and hang on to them. I can't afford to have one toddler or both get hurt while I search and search and search for shoes, risking more than just missing bedtime or being stuck at closing time. Shame on you! Don't treat a child like the parent. Don't scold or bad mouth a parent to a child. read more

Fantastic place! Let's see what do they have? They have a LARGE kids area. Books of course as far as you can see, but a puppet area, book train,and so much more. Summer reading club too which I took place in at my local library growing up. I think all kids would be super happy here. They rent out tons of movies. New releases and every season of tonss of shows. I saw an entire drawer of The Simpsons season 1-20 which is great. Check out times are 4 days on new releases and 7 for anything older. You can renew 3x. The have a large audio book section. This is also great. Not just for older people, but kids and everyone else. Take one on a trip or listen on the way to work. Ever listened to a book while cleaning the house? Well you should. Then you cant say you NEVER HAVE TIME TO READ. think about it. There is also a reading center for the blind. How awesome is that. They have CD's for rent. They have a video game rental area.Loan period is 14 days. I think that is good, considering in the days of Blockbuster for $6.99 you wouldn't even get that long.The catch to this is you can only rent 1 game at a time, because the selection isn't that large. Cases for games are empty, so you have to go to a person to check these out. They have NOOK and Kindle download rentals. The kids area also rents kids movies (these are on the 2nd floor with the rest of the kids area, not the main floor with the other DVD's) and they rent LeapPad products! The do still have VHS tapes to rent out. And I see people taking the ALL the time. That's kinda cool. lol. The kids area also rents out puppets! When I was a kid I did this from my library. I'm so glad this place does this. Really neat way for kids to play with something new, and to teach them to respect something that someone else will soon be playing with. They have a large area for computer usage. They have free wifi and the password is available at any of the check out desks. There are also private study nooks where you can read work online without feeling crowded by the other computer users if that's your thing. The 2nd floor also has a Detroit History Room! My person fav. This area requires a special key, and you can't check items out of it. Inside you will find 3 computers, tons of MI and Detroit books and maps. The maps also need a special key. You need to check this out. I love to see this type of thing,maps of old streets, blueprints, etc. Awesome. So cool it's right out my front door practically. You can renew a book online! yay! You can also request to hold an item or have it transferred from another CT library in the Suburban Library Cooperative (SLC) You have 15 days to pick those up. Go to www.libcoop.net for those libraries. Lastly-self check out. You scan your card, place all your goods on a magnetic pad and bam! you are printed a receipt with your return dates. You can also get email and text reminders of when they are due. I can tell you from experience the reminders on the new movies it the best. The checkout are also has a little book store you can buy from, all the used books they don't really circulate or have doubles of. This is located in a small area to the L when you come in, with vending machines and tables for snacks. Once a year they have a huge book sale. That is the best. You bet your behind this place rocks. I've said it before and I'll say it again BOOKS. CHECK EM OUT. read more

This is the best library ever!!!! Everything is super high-tech. No need to wait in line to check out your books. Just swipe your library card, put books on special sensor pad and all done!!! This library is a gem. They have tons of activities and programs from infants to adults. I go to the children's section a lot with my little 3 month old. The children's section is really nice because it is hidden away from the rest of the library where people are studying. That way you will not get death glares if your child has a mini-meltdown ;) Go and see for yourself how great this place is. Unfortunately, libraries will become extinct in the future. I plan on showing my children the value of a library...especially one like CMPL. read more

This library is so beautiful, clean and fun! The amount of things they have for kids is amazing! Not many libraries dedicate such a large area to children. The reason for the 4 stars is that with such a beautiful library I expected better children's classes. The teacher has no enthusiasm and does the same songs every week. She doesn't include the kids in any activity and she is usually reading or reading a poem off a paper. Two year olds can't sit still for that long. I wish she could include them and be more into it. Excellence at every turn. Lots of parking, but it's an excellent library so naturally the closest parking is full. The building itself is absolutely gorgeous, with the finest of everything you could ask for. The children's section is completely wonderful, with loads of things to grab little one's attention, great programs, and a tremendous selection. The teen area is perfect! Non-fiction offers a lot of services and loads of titles. Fiction is really well laid-out and an awesome Large Type selection - rare for any library. The building is always immaculate, the staff is always helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. I love visiting all libraries, wherever I am in the state or country, and this is the best in Michigan and 3rd or 4th best in the country. read more

This is an amazing library library. Their catalog is huge, rarely do they not already have what I'm, looking for. The staff is very helpful. The building is two floors and is a beautiful, wonderful place to spend a quite afternoon. The children's area is awesome and somewhat secluded on the second floor so noise isn't an issue. My kids love it there. The hold system/website is very convenient. The same catalog viewed at the library can be accesses via their website and items can be placed on hold and they will be pulled from the shelf and placed on the hold shelf for quick pick-up. The website is a wonderful tool for creating lists of cataloged books you'd like to check out. This library participates in the suburban library cooperative so if you reside in a neighboring township (i.e. Chesterfield) they will link your card to them and you have nearly identical privileges to a resident. read more

If I could live here, I would!!!! I was amazed the first time I went here (about 3 months after it was built) and instantly fell in love!!!!! I love that this place seems to be the center for community life in Clinton Township and I have a hard time finding a parking space whenever I visit!! I'm here constantly (like 2-3 times a week) and I spend my visits wandering the stacks, picking up stuff I want to browse, and wind up taking home a giant stack :) There's a great reading room at the back of the first floor, cushy chairs and fireplace included. I also love the extensive DVD collection.....WHO DOESN'T LOVE WATCHING MOIVES FOR FREE?!?!?! Seriously, folks....CMPL is the best place (not just library) in Clinton Township!!! read more

Great place for kids. There are puppets, many books, leap pad games, a computer room for young children with activities for all grade school age. My son is 2 and loves going to play on the train and to play with the little Thomas train set. They also have a room kids can play in with puzzles, fake food, magnetic alphabet and numbers. Wonderful selection of all book types, movies, games, music and audio cds. Easy to check out and return. read more

Good library, horrific parking. There is never enough parking. I typically have to drive round and round and wait for a spot to come up as I'm driving around. When there are events, which is often, the lot is completely full with cars double-parked blocking others. There is no other place to park, in bad weather, as the civic center is quite a walk. read more

I had an issue with a book. I always check books before I return them to the library. That book was my sons and I have had check and everything was fine as always, I returned and later a god a phone call from library- lady was saying that book is all wet. I was so surprise because that was few day later and they told me to pay for this book $15 for used book. I checked that new book cost in the store $15. I was so mad why I have to pay for used book like for new one? I decided to talk to supervisor of that library to resolve that problem. From the beginning she was not helpful she was mean saying that book was all wet so I need to pay all amount. I could not understand because how I can bring "whole wet book" and not notice? A do not know what happened and how this happened but all blame was on me. So, I ask that lady -what if I buy the same new book - she was so furious and she said "NO" I have to pay whole amount or they gonna block my account. I never met someone that can`t I negotiate with, where was not my fault. Finally, I decided to pay that amount and I close account with them. read more
