Our son has been training with USKO for over nine years and he is still going strong. He has trained at the Corona location from time to time but normally trains at the dojo on Brockton in Riverside. In the almost ten years we have been customers of USKO, we have never experienced anything like what was mentioned in some of the overly negative Yelp reviews of their Corona dojo. We know a lot of the other parents at both dojos and we have never heard of anything like what those reviews have stated. In all honesty, in my opinion, those reviews are unfair. USKO is an excellent place to receive training in Karate, Muay Thai, Jiu Jitsu, and general fitness. Updating since I enrolled in the adult Muay Thai class with coach Riley. I still have a high opinion of this place and my son still loves his karate class. Now as for Muay Thai, Coach Riley is a fantastic instructor. He always takes the time to answer questions and help you with anything you need. All of my fellow adult muay Thai trainees are also great people. I was really out of my comfort zone when I first started, but everyone was so nice and willing to meet you were you were and help you that I felt really encouraged from day 1. Thats the kind of environment coach Riley has created in class. This program is such a confidence, not to mention fitness (it is WORK!), booster. I highly recommend it. read more

I've been training in martial arts for 18+ years now and had to do tons of research before finding my new school. And, for the facilities and price USKO cannot be beat. They teach Muay Thai, Karate, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu(Like regular jiu-jitsu but with a sexier accent), and assorted cardio classes including yoga. They have a great set up, two locations, huge gym and even showers. Any equipment you need for practice whether it's an open matt or heavy bag with everything in between. Make sure you purchase your own equipment when you start. This school was nice enough to offer loaner gear for me when I was starting out but, like all loaner gear it is not something you want to wear for too long(kinda smelly) ^_^. All of the head instructors are pro fighters or training to go pro. and the main instructor has fought with the K-1 promotion. In the traditional classes you have instructors with years of experience and the school even hosts the occasional fight seminar with an established pro fighter. I liked that the environment was safe for the kids but still made sure they practiced practical self defense. For sure worth a look. read more

Do not go here. We signed up and they made us sign a one year contract. During COVID I told them I did not feel comfortable going there since no one wore masks. They made me pay a delay fee Evey month that happened. Then, when I moved they still said I had a contract. It's been more than a year and they keep charging me. I've been trying to call, but am in a different time zone. They don't have voicemail set up so I couldn't leave a message. I called today and they won't refund me for anything. They hide in the contract that's it's auto-renew, but don't explain it. My son has not attending on over a year. They are rude and have no understanding. Just a money grab. Their program wasn't even good. No individual attention (unless your kids is the only v one that shows up). When we first signed up they had three people infuriating three kids. That ended after the first month. I suggest the place down the street. read more

Any studio can teach a child to kick, punch, and perform Katas. However, at USKO the foundation of sportsmanship, leadership, dedication, and determination is established. They all go above and beyond to create an environment that is nurturing, but also challenging. Avoid this place like the plague!! They are very adept at avoiding customer service. We have been trying to close out our contract for two months and only get the run around. We tried to send a certified letter to close out the contract but they wouldn't pick up the letter from the post office then they blame us and charge late fees!! read more

My son, daughter, and I trained today with Coach Riley. We had a great time, and learned a lot. Coach Riley was a good instructor. He was knowledgeable, and patient with my kids; one of which was their first time training martial arts. They were kind to lend us gis. We would definitely recommend him and USKO. read more

I have about seven years martial arts experience, mostly of traditional Japanese ( Shoto-Kan and Ryobu-Kai) and some JKD. I want to expand my arsenal in other styles so I decided to observe the 11:00 Muay Thai class. Bottom line.....not impressed. When I arrived I told the instructor I was there to observe a Muay Thai class. I noticed it was probably close to 90° inside (outside temp. was in the mid to high nineties). I asked the instructor if they had air conditioning. He replied in the affirmative but since he was trying to lose weight for an upcoming fight, he wanted it it uncomfortably warm/hot in order to help lose water weight by sweating. In my opinion this instructor should do that on his own time and not have to make it uncomfortable for his students or potential customer/student. Additionally the instructor was working on his personal heavy bag technique and not paying attention to his four students who were behind him and working on partnered basics. From time to time the instructor would turn around and interject in the students training, but that should be constant. It was evident these four students were beginners and probably didn't know any better as to the expectations of an instructor. After the class terminated, the instructor walked past me by maybe three feet to pick up his personal belonging then walked to the rear of the studio and out of sight. He didnt even bother to ask my thoughts or If I had questions. Bottom line this instructor may be a good fighter but his instructor abilities are less than satisfactory in my opinion. I shopped around a bit before signing my son up for karate classes at USKO. I am so happy I did. USKO is an awesome place for little ones to learn the arts. Besides karate the kids can also do jiu jitsu, mma, and Muy Thai. There is also adult classes which by the looks of it are pretty popular. My son gets 4 classes a week for $100 a month. That beats the other places I looked at which only offer 2-3 classes a week for the same price or more. The instructors at USKO are excellent with the kids. I signed up my kid through Corona Rec and got a deal for $45 for 3 weeks of Karate 2 days a week. I am new to the Karate scene and don't know how much things cost. At USKO my 5 yr old class was only for 30 minutes 2x a week. The instructors were nice and all but I think the reception persons were way too pushy to get you to sign up for their overpriced packages. The packages are starting at $120/mo and you have to put a deposit of $190. I called All American Karate in Corona and they charge also $120 a month but you can get up to 5 classes a week and the classes are an hour each. I am not dogging the USKO Karate trainers because they were great it's just the prices were too much and the receptionist seemed really pushy to try to get me to sign up my kid. read more

My son has been training BJJ here for 4 years. We were members at the Corona location off the 91 until they moved to their current location. The kids program is great. The instructors are great with my son and if you want your child to compete in tournaments, they have a BJJ competition team. Kids are not required to compete. My son has high functioning autism and is extremely small for his age. USKO has given him so much more confidence and he has even competed at a very high level and has had much success in tournaments. The coaches are very knowledgeable and always encouraging the kids to challenge themselves. Beware of other shady gyms that require you to pay them up front to have a coach at your tournament. I don't understand this practice. The kids are wearing your patches and representing your school. Fast forward to today and now I'm training BJJ and I really think it's the best martial art for not only self defense but for a full body workout. USKO has a brand new facility with new mats. Those old blue ones in the photo are from the previous location. The facilities and restrooms are always clean. USKO is more than just training. It's really a close knit family environment. I know my chart reads 2014 and I don't know why, but I've been coming here since 2013. Since you guys open your first Corona, California location. I came from the other company. I've been a loyal member, I've been volunteering my time and money to help you guys. Plus when I go host events and volunteer at other places I bring you guys' business cards. I've passed out you guys' cards at the parks and so on. I'm always referring people to your company. I haven't given any problems and I don't appreciate the fact that - I'm being told that I can't come in until I give $47. When I said, I would bring it the first week of July 2018. Again I've been a member since 2013 and it's 2018. My contract is for $49 a month 2 or 4 times a week for Muay Thai and Kickboxing. If you look at my attendance I've barely been there. You guys have been getting $49 from me for years plus and I've been coming once a month, a couple of times a month if even. How many of your other members pay for months and they don't even come? How many members do you guys have still here from the beginning (2013)? Before June 2018 I was last there in March 2018. I am paying for months where I wasn't even there and I didn't have a problem with it. But I have a huge problem with someone being inconsiderate and money hungry. When I have been nothing but respectful, loyal and wonderful to this company. I felt disrespected and unappreciated. I was pretty surprised by this poor decision. I don't ever run business like this. I also thought that it's really funny that somebody is willing to lose a loyal member over $47 or over any amount. I thought this was a family business? When you have employee's calling to collect money, the correct thing to do is to train them to call someone correctly - How are you doing? We haven't seen you in a while. We were calling to check up on you and also to let you know that you have a balance due. When you have somebody sitting on the phone telling them: I'm having financial problems, I'm having this and that problem, I just Graduated from College with Honors and three kids - You want to give them encouragement, you want to congratulate them, you want to motivate them. You don't be careless and inconsiderate. I want my money and that's it. When your former employee Savannah (I believe that's her name.) called me - She was very considerate, encouraging, welcoming, understanding, always checking on me. As I stated before - If you guys aren't willing to wait until July 2018 for me to pay (I do not have the funds today.), I will take my business elsewhere and never return. I will be very vocal about this situation and I will never refer anyone to this company again. I don't have a problem with never coming here. I can find a closer location, where I am appreciated and respected. Were they have employee's that aren't lying and gossiping, that actually win matches on a regular. Where I'm not limited to just come on Saturday's with a coach that I feel motivates me. Now that I just finished school I have more time to train. Started training @ USKO in May 2018. I was 60lbs overweight, in the worst shape of my life, on blood pressure meds & knew NOTHING about Boxing or Muay Thai; I didn't even know how to throw a Left Hook or a simple Roundhouse Kick. After 6 months, I dropped all the weight plus a few more, BP became better than average & I didn't need meds anymore. At age 52, I developed the stamina, endurance, speed & flexibility that allowed me to not only hang with students 30 years my junior, but hold my own every time! But this review is about the PEOPLE. I'm so thankful to have trained under Coach Riley Miller and Coach David Pacheco - both accomplished pro athletes & competitors as well as genuine, outstanding human beings. If you have kids, the kids classes are very popular and Coaches are absolutely EXCELLENT with children. The kids respect the instructors, work hard and they have a blast! It's fun to watch getting ready for adult sesh! I felt like true family training here & I think USKO saved my life!
