When this buddy started talking about racing his bike at this track, my son started bugging me to go. I finally caved and took him out there on a Friday. What a surprise! If you've never been BMX'ing before, don't worry. Everyone at Desert Sun BMX will be more than happy to help you learn. More than that, they offer a free first session to anyone who wants to ride the track for the first time AND they have plenty of BMX bikes that you can borrow to get going (first come first serve). When I took my son the first time, they even let him borrow a helmet! You'll see kids and adults of ALL ages riding this track. Should you decide to register with the ABA, Desert Sunset will help there as well. Getting registered allows your child (or you) to compete in local ranking with races on Friday and Sunday nights. They have a practice night on Thursdays. Needless to say, my son is now hooked and so am I. There is another BMX course out there called Manzanita, but it is too far of a drive for us East siders. Desert Sunset is run by the Chandler family and has been recently updated to include a larger and longer track. There is a concession stand with a pretty decent food menu, plenty of bleacher seating to see the track and a play area for the little brothers or sisters not ready to ride. It's $5 for practice (on practice nights and race nights) and $10 to race. The track is available for birthday parties and they even have a BBQ grill area you can use. Overall, this is a great and safe place to take your kids who like to ride and run off some steam. I would have loved to have a place like this to ride my bike when I was a kid!

The karts however were rather pathetic. There was a large performance differential between karts which took almost all the fun out of the experience. The karts were also woefully slow and had no driver adjustment (seat position etc...). Perhaps if they used the timing transponders it would make the races more fun. This place has alot of potential but it is not being utilized well at the moment. The standard price without a deal is rediculous, even when compared to places like Octane Raceway in Scottsdale. They do have shifter karts which are even more expensive to drive but much more fun. Hopefully the owners pick up the pace and turn this place into something fun! Note: bring water as there wasnt any to be found when we went.

After a few minutes of discussing payment and rules where it was stated you might lose your race if you make contact or drive off the track, we started our 30 dollars per 12 minutes each of racing. Things started off okay but we found out the majority of the track was closed. We were having a good ride, though. I made the unfortunate mistake of avoiding a collision but ended up high-centered with my two front tires just barely dangling over the inside of the track. I safely refused to try and push myself free due to prior experiences of kindly track officials, at other tracks, rushing over and giving me a small push back onto the track and continuing the race. Well, to my surprise after only 3-4 laps and after my little high-centered incident my race was revoked. All three employees just gave me a real sincere shoulder shrug and smirk and said you went off the track sorry bud. Here are the points, there were only three of us, there was no one else patronizing the establishment, less than midway through our time, 4th of July eve and these guys end my race, an active duty military member on leave from Washington. I could have been mad and freaked out but instead chose to write this warning to all those people thinking about choosing this track, if you make contact or run just a little off the track you will loose all your money and leave angry. I should have gone to Phoenix.

Review Title: The Ultimate Motorsports Oasis for Families and Enthusiasts…read moreRating: I've been a member at APEX Motor Club in Maricopa for about three years now, and I can honestly say it's been one of the best experiences for me and my family. Whether you are a hardcore car enthusiast or just someone who loves the thrill of driving fast, this place is a dream come true. What makes APEX special: * The Track: The facility is world-class. With a 2.27-mile circuit (and more coming in Phase 2) and a massive 3,400-foot straightaway, you can really test what your car is capable of in a safe, professionally managed environment. * Family & Community: One of my favorite parts about APEX is that it's not just for the drivers. I've brought friends, customers, employees, and my kids here. We've even hosted kids' birthday parties at the club! With the recent addition of the go-karting program, it's truly become a multi-generational experience where kids can start building their skills early. * Exclusive Amenities: The clubhouse, the Formula 1-style garages, and the APEX Vault vehicle storage make it feel like a true "Country Club for Cars." The staff goes above and beyond to make sure every visit is seamless. * Professional Growth: Using the APEX Academy and the coaching available has definitely made me a better driver. If you're looking for a private racing club that offers 240+ days of track access and a vibrant community of people who share your passion, I can't recommend APEX highly enough. It's more than just a track; it's a lifestyle. A few extra stats you might like to know: * Access: Members enjoy over 240 track days per year--far more than most clubs. * Development: The club sits on 280 acres and is continuing to expand its "Phase 2" facilities, including more garage condos and a larger clubhouse. * Safety: They use a high-tech 9-station LED safety lighting system, so you can push your limits knowing the track is being monitored by the best technology available.

Air-conditioned observation lounge with leather sofas, a water-bottle fridge, a soda fridge, and 360° views is awesome. Shaded outside observation deck is also awesome. However, what sets Inde aside is the sheer customer-service and customer-pleasing and professional attitude of the working staff. From John Mabry, Track/Facility Manager, to Chachi who greeted us, took lunch orders, remembered who everyone was, and then made the lunches to spec, to Jason who came to let us know the timing for separation of Closed-Wheel, Open-Wheel, and Bike categories once the latter two showed up -- EVERYONE was top-notch perfect. This wasn't the first time. I've seen John frustrated at on-track action, off-track delays, etc. and he's ALWAYS willing to smile and answer a question or discuss what's going on. This outing was a group of our employees and their +1s. We got to introduce new people to on-track driving, let seasoned veterans do their thing, enjoy a fabulous lunch, and be treated like VIPs. Even the huge monitors said "Welcome" with our group name. These "little details" are what set Inde from the "golf club" analogy, or the "private dining room" in a restaurant, or the "ballroom wedding party" at a hotel. Truly this is a class act, and owner Graham Dorland should be proud of these people for their perfection. Ehud Gavron Tucson AZ P.S.
