We have attended four races so far this year. The first two were pleasant experiences. The third race was delayed by 45 minutes because drivers were being blinded by the sun. The sun is strong in Tucson, I understand. Shouldn't organizers have understood that as well. The last race I attended was a mess and exposed a truly unorganized back room. There was light to moderate rain at the track, starting in the late afternoon, but close to race time the track's Facebook page said races were on. We headed over, paid $31 for two general admission tickets and waited for over 2.5 hours in the rain while they blared ( and I mean blared) horrible honky tonk music and would have their grating mc flirt with attendees, asking each if they were married. It was all bizarre but we drove 40 minutes, paid the money and were told time and again the races were still happening. Eventually the mc said the track was too wet to drive and we would have the fireworks display scheduled. We sat and waited in the dark and waited. The mc then interviewed a driver's girlfriend and long story short the driver came out and proposed. After 20 plus minutes of us watching the proposal and subsequent interviewing of the couple, we had the fireworks. The fireworks display was wonderful. Everyone filed out and was told the gates would open the next morning at 10am and the race would take place at noon. Sounds great, right? Rain happens, monsoons happen, I get it. Well, we left and planned on returning. Luckily I thought of looking at their Facebook page the next morning. At 11am the track posted their staff and emergency personnel couldn't work and they wouldn't be racing that day. According to Facebook posts racers had been told around midnight that races were off. How incredibly rude that management didn't update Facebook until after their gates were supposed to be open the next morning. Would have been better if they had the foresight to figure this out the night before but at the least, they should have updated Facebook. Tucson is a city, not a big one but this track is run as though there isn't even a movie theater in town to compete for Saturday night business. read more
