I love doing my nails myself and grow bored of my manicures quickly so I tend not to pay to get them done, but I'm no nail technician! My nails were in such a bad state shape-wise and I really needed to see a professional to sort the situation out! You can book in with Sacha via email and she works out of the Toni Cook salon. When I visited it was in their old location in Merchant City, but she informed me that they were in the process of moving to a swanky new salon just off Buchanan Street (above The Lab, where they are currently situated). I booked in about 2 weeks before my desired appointment time and I would recommend booking early as she's a busy little bee and appointments go quickly! I opted to go for a gel polish on my own nails rather than false acrylic nails. While I waited my turn in the salon I got a little nail wheel to browse the colours. There's a lot to choose from, lots of nice pastel-y colours and lovely dark vampy colours, as well as some sparkly numbers! I didn't really know what sort of design or look I wanted so Sacha suggested a few looks to me and I ended up going for a V design on some accent nails in alternating colours. I was getting my nails done specifically for my friends wedding and had a picture of my dress with me and Sacha helped me pick out some colours that matched well. Sacha was very professional and chatty during my manicure. She remembered me from the Yelp event which was really nice! I felt very relaxed while I was there and it seemed like my manicure flew in! I've been to some really standoffish nail techs in the past and have been entirely ignored while I've had my nails done, so I appreciate when someone can hold a conversation and still deliver an A+ manicure! I loved my nails when there were done and after 2 weeks they're still looking as good! My manicure came in at £25 which I think is pretty good considering how long it'll last. You can pay with cash or via paypal, card payments are also accepted but require a £1 service fee. Gel polish removal comes in at £4 which is nothing if you don't want to wreck your nails doing it yourself!! I've already booked in for my next manicure! I'd really recommend Sacha if you're looking to get your nails done, she does a banging manicure, she's super nice and her wee dog (who is really well behaved and comes to work with her) is so cute!! :)

Haven't gotten a manicure since I moved to Glasgow methinks so I thought, what better way to treat…read moremy nails than for a special occasion like Christmas? :) I made my booking with Sacha like a month+ in advance because I know she's busy, especially during the festive seasons. Lucky for my efficiency, I got a spot, and told her I wanted gel nails! I remember Queen B getting em and they lasted forever! Perfect, since I'll be away from Glasgow for 3 weeks! Anyway, I easily found the salon via Yelp, headed through the alley and up the stairs. To my pleasant surprise, was greeted by Sacha's wee chihuahua. He cuddled me while I waited for Sacha to be done with the previous client. What a good way to keep me occupied! Haha So, Sacha is a wonderful manicurist. She uses a brand of polish from the UK (I don't remember the name unfortunately. Artist polish? Something like that) and says she insists on only using those because of its high quality. I appreciate her sincerity! And the nail polish is after all, super nice! She's also very welcoming, friendly and open to trying fun artsy things in your nails. "Open to experiments" she says! :) she uses an LED nail dryer thinggy that makes your gel nails set asap and that's like super amazing to me haha no more wrecked nails! Anyway I love my nails! I have candy canes and a wee Christmas pudding on my ring fingers! The salon is spacious. Sacha is amazing and bubbly! Will definitely go back next year for a touch up or some new nail art hehehe Highly recommend!

Love love love it!…read more After a tragic visit to a nail salon chain in the city centre, I was directed here by a friend. Entering, I found it bright, welcoming and friendly. The place was a-buzz with customers, who all were chatty and lively. When I sheepishly showed my badly done nails to my new nail tech, Fee, (who part owns the shop), she just tutted and said, 'Well, you've come to the right place!' I never felt, for the hour or so I was there, that I had to struggle with conversation. Everything was light and easy, and Fee was gentle and knowledgeable about what she does. In fact, the hour passed so quickly that I didn't even realise it; that's a good sign! And when I left, I felt like I'd made some good friends, rather than that feeling like I'd been through a conveyor belt. It may seem like a jaunt from the city centre, but it's worth it. The prices are great, they'll give you a discount if they can, and you'll find yourself looking forward to your next visit. If you pass up this opportunity, then you're just a fool. You can't get quality beauty like this anywhere else.

I have just left the salon and I am really upset with the service I have recieved…read more I had been to the salon before and really liked it. As we were up from London for Christmas I phoned straight away to book. This time the technician basically ignored me! She talked to everyone else in the salon but me. After a while I was so shocked I took to looking at my mobile, ceiling etc. I do think that even some of the other technicians felt I was really uncomfortable but said nothing. How easy would it have been to utter a - looking forward to Christmas? Done all your shopping? My nails are good but they will be done just as well elsewhere. A horrible experience!

I had a free lunchtime in Glasgow last week and decided to go and get myself a facial. This place…read morewas minutes from my hotel and it had good reviews. I'm a bit of a fusspot about my skin, so I was a little apprehensive. First things first, this salon is a bit tricky to find - it's under the arches but it's very easy to walk straight past it (I did, countless times). You'll find it on the left if you're walking towards the radisson blu hotel on argyle street. It's right under the arches of Glasgow Central station. It does say beauty in the window but it's easily missed because many of the shops are painted in the same green. When you get in you'll be greeted by friendly faces and lots of welcoming. You'll be made to feel right at home. I must admit I felt a little nervous because it's not the best looking salon I've seen. It could do with a little tidy up and it's certainly not a haven of peace, you'll hear trains running over the top of you (it's under the train bridge) and it's noisy with hairdressing if you're in one of the treatment rooms. So why the five stars. Margaret (?) was my therapist and she was lovely. We did a microdermabrasion and she did a fantastic job. A really thorough cleanse, lovely products and a pain free process (microdermabrasion can leave you red faced if the therapist goes too far with it!) The liquorice mask reminded me of many a night drinking sambuca (urgh) but it was worth it. It tingles a bit (which scared me) but don't be scared, it'll settle down and it was worth it! I came out of the salon glowing, and a few hours later, my skin had never looked better. Normally when I get it done in London, it takes a few days to show the effects. Not so here. I got so many comments on my skin that evening and actually it has felt great ever since. Even better, it's an absolute steal (compared to what I pay in London, at least). If I'm back in town, I'll be headed here.

It was a dilemma. The emergency pre-holiday wax was needed and my usual beauty salon was closed…read more You can't trust just anyone when dealing with your more delicate areas, and more to the point, I couldn't afford just anyone. A bikini wax can set you back up to £30 in Glasgow and so you are faced with the predicament of compromise- how cheap do you go without sacrificing hygiene, professionalism and your dignity? After recommendations from friends, I opted for Beauty In The City which seemed to offer good value for money. A small salon convieniently located on Argyle Street, hidden beneath the 'Heilenman's Umbrella' (that's Central Station bridge to the non-locals) it specialises in waxing, massage and nail care. I decided to go for the Brazilian which at £17 was more risky than a 'Playboy' but less intimidating than the 'Hollywood'. The salon seemed clean and well organised and I was pleased at how quickly I was seen. I was in and out in 20minutes and despite being the last appointment of the day, I didn't feel rushed. Beauty in The City is more Glasgow glam that city chic with hot pink walls and over-tanned members of staff to match. However, it benefits from another Glaswegian trait- incredibly friendly service. Beauty treatments are given from girls who will chat like they've known you for years. My beautician immediately put me at ease when I felt apprehensive, vulnerable and exposed. She was clear about exactly what she was going to do and made the whole process as pleasant as possible. A bikini wax is not for the faint-hearted however my discretion was considered throughout and I was made to feel comfortable. I'll definitely be going back.

They wanted £30. Not as if I wanted nail extensions lol. So I tried this place. I couldn't believe when they said £5 here. I thought I was getting a bargain until I seen the state of the job afterwards. A girl was going my nails on Sunday who looked about 13 on work experience from school. I'll let the picture show the job. I asked to get brows done too. Waxed and plucked. I had to ask her to take more off from above my left as they were both different sizes. My advise is. Pay the extra and go to a place with proper professionals. Look at the 2 pictures. Yes, as you will see. The cuticles are cut very messy.

When confronted about this he failed to see he had done a bad job, boy clearly is not a qualified hairdresser. Wouldnt be surprised if he was only in his first year of college! Was also overcharged by £10, sign outside states 'cut and blow dry £15' yet after I had it cut and was ready to pay I was informed it would be £25. The so called manager has a terrible attitude, no customer service skills whatsoever and generally a rude woman. Overall a very bad experience, would not recommend this place to anyone

I had went in two days before I was going on holiday to get semi-permanent eyelash extensions put in. It was the natural set as the guy (manager) had recommended them and said they'd be best for what I was looking for. He was friendly and chatty when I went in so I trusted his opinion and went ahead with it. He had also told me, I quote, "they will last 6 to 8 weeks if you look after them" - mine didn't last more than 24 hours. So as soon as I lay down to get them done, the woman doing them dropped the whole table set and everything on it while hurting her finger in the process. After waiting till her finger was okay, she then took around 10 minutes trying to stick my bottom lashes down because she couldn't do it. Once they were done, there was no difference. She said she put 60 lashes in one eye and honestly it looked like 3 were in. I met my friend after having them done and she asked why my lashes were stuck together and looked separate. That night around 15 lashes came out of the right eye and a few from the other. By morning every single one from the right eye had come out. They are closed on a Sunday so there was nothing I could do. I called them on Monday morning and told the woman what's happened. She apologised and asked if I wanted to come back in and she'll put them back in for me. I was leaving for the airport in an hour so obviously didn't have the time. I told her to let her manager know and I had pictures if he wants to see and that I'd come back in for a refund when I was back from holiday as I was so disappointed. So I went back in when I was back from holiday and the manager was so unbelievably rude. His attitude had completely changed from the first time I was in. I showed him the pictures I had taken and all he kept asking is why I didn't take a picture of my eyes :/ I explained that taking a picture of my eyes wouldn't have shown anything, you can't see properly from a picture. I had also explained that his employee had not asked me to take a picture of my eyes after I explained it to her either. He went on to say, and I quote again, "she is the most experienced staff I have, she does eyelashes all the time" yet she spent 10 minutes trying to stick my bottom lashes down on one eye.. He was incredibly rude, wouldn't let me speak at all and couldn't admit that it was their fault, even after providing evidence. He then took the money out the till (£30) and slammed it on the desk and said "there". My friend that was with me and I were disgusted not only at his attitude but at his awful customer service as well. I have never had such a bad experience in my life and will for sure never be back at this terribly unprofessional shop.
