They even had Drag race on!

I adore having my nails done, just that little bit of pampering is enough to make me smile for the whole day. So when I booked a little trip home, I just had to check out the coolest new nail bar in town. Actually, calling it a nail bar is under selling it. It's a super cool salon where you can get your nails, make up or henna on. If like me you're an Instagram nail art obsessive then you'll know all about DIY nails decals and their founder Tammy - this is the lovely lady who has opened Naf! The decor is super cool and the girls are so welcoming and friendly - more like hanging out with friends rather than a nail appointment. Tammy managed to expertly repair my broken nail (sob!) and give me some beautiful glittery nails. Tammy even managed to enlighten me to the cheap megatrain offers - legend!! Go here for professional super cute nails, girly hangs and brilliant chat.

    Love this.

This might be the most instagram friendly place in Glasgow, yes really. It's incredible. Tammy Koslowski is the owner of both NAF Salon and DIY Nails. As in the nail decals that have just been featured in Vogue. NAF Salon opened up last week and after seeing it all over instagram from all the Glasgow Bloggers, I decided to try it out. The salon is super easy to find, up two flights of stairs in Central Chambers. You walk in to find 4 nail bars, a hair bar, two pedicure chairs, and a huge lounging area complete with netflix and magazines. The decor is great, personal favourite was the emoji decals on the windows. I came in wanting a file and polish for a reasonable 10quid, but got persuaded to have gel nails, since they offer free soak offs. Tammy was super friendly and chatty throughout doing my nails, and her attention to detail on the treatment was second to none. I went for hot pink with white glitter over. I love them. 20quid for the gel nails, in the city centre is pretty reasonable. The polish brand used was gelish, but the wall was lined with all colours of normal polish. They also offer acyrlic nails and so much glitter. If you need some girly TLC, this is the place to go!

I love this place so much, I've already booked my next appointment! It's been a while since I've cared enough to have my nails done and I thought it was about time to treat myself. You can book appointments online for a £1 deposit, but for some reason it never works for me. I've been able to pop a wee message through to them and they've booked me in no bother. My first appointment was such a treat. Amee is really great and does a great job with nails. I originally had booked in for a single colour gel nail, but decided once I was there that I wanted something with glitter. It was not trouble at all as all appointments generally are given the same amount of time. I was a tad early as always for my appointment but I was able to sit and look at the rolling video of all the different nails people have gotten done. Loads of inspiration for sure! Every staff member I ran in to that day were super nice and welcoming! A great atmosphere, I just love it here! I'm so excited for my next appointment!!

I absolutely love this place, and get my nails done here as often as possible. You are instantly made to feel at home from the second you walk through the door. The decor is an Instagram fans dream. I would thoroughly recommend this place, and have done to everyone who will listen to me

Totally love this place. Been twice now and will be a regular. Already have my next 2 appointments in plus an appointment just before Christmas! Great music, staff and willingness to go with any crazy idea you turn up will. Don't even think about it, download their app, follow on Instagram and book.

Located dab smack in the middle of the city centre I found Naf a bit tricky to find but once I had found it I was hooked. When I walked in I immediately felt welcomed and cool. Cool? Yes cool because everyone in there is so dang cool and friendly. It's Glasgow style at its best. I've been in twice. The first time I got a design on my nails that was the envy of everyone I met for two weeks. The second time I opted for a simple one colour gel polish. My nails are still going strong on day 19. The thing that stands out to me about their service is that they care. If you want a design they want to make sure the design is exactly what you are looking for-- they will even custom colour. If you want a specific colour they will mix colours until you are happy. It's hard to find this kind of service anymore. Also the studio space is so bright airy and hip that you just walk away feeling pretty and bad ass- all at once! Don't forget to check-in using Yelp because you get a discount on your nails.

I love doing my nails myself and grow bored of my manicures quickly so I tend not to pay to get them done, but I'm no nail technician! My nails were in such a bad state shape-wise and I really needed to see a professional to sort the situation out! You can book in with Sacha via email and she works out of the Toni Cook salon. When I visited it was in their old location in Merchant City, but she informed me that they were in the process of moving to a swanky new salon just off Buchanan Street (above The Lab, where they are currently situated). I booked in about 2 weeks before my desired appointment time and I would recommend booking early as she's a busy little bee and appointments go quickly! I opted to go for a gel polish on my own nails rather than false acrylic nails. While I waited my turn in the salon I got a little nail wheel to browse the colours. There's a lot to choose from, lots of nice pastel-y colours and lovely dark vampy colours, as well as some sparkly numbers! I didn't really know what sort of design or look I wanted so Sacha suggested a few looks to me and I ended up going for a V design on some accent nails in alternating colours. I was getting my nails done specifically for my friends wedding and had a picture of my dress with me and Sacha helped me pick out some colours that matched well. Sacha was very professional and chatty during my manicure. She remembered me from the Yelp event which was really nice! I felt very relaxed while I was there and it seemed like my manicure flew in! I've been to some really standoffish nail techs in the past and have been entirely ignored while I've had my nails done, so I appreciate when someone can hold a conversation and still deliver an A+ manicure! I loved my nails when there were done and after 2 weeks they're still looking as good! My manicure came in at £25 which I think is pretty good considering how long it'll last. You can pay with cash or via paypal, card payments are also accepted but require a £1 service fee. Gel polish removal comes in at £4 which is nothing if you don't want to wreck your nails doing it yourself!! I've already booked in for my next manicure! I'd really recommend Sacha if you're looking to get your nails done, she does a banging manicure, she's super nice and her wee dog (who is really well behaved and comes to work with her) is so cute!! :)

Lucky for my efficiency, I got a spot, and told her I wanted gel nails! I remember Queen B getting em and they lasted forever! Perfect, since I'll be away from Glasgow for 3 weeks! Anyway, I easily found the salon via Yelp, headed through the alley and up the stairs. To my pleasant surprise, was greeted by Sacha's wee chihuahua. He cuddled me while I waited for Sacha to be done with the previous client. What a good way to keep me occupied! Haha So, Sacha is a wonderful manicurist. She uses a brand of polish from the UK (I don't remember the name unfortunately. Artist polish? Something like that) and says she insists on only using those because of its high quality. I appreciate her sincerity! And the nail polish is after all, super nice! She's also very welcoming, friendly and open to trying fun artsy things in your nails. "Open to experiments" she says! :) she uses an LED nail dryer thinggy that makes your gel nails set asap and that's like super amazing to me haha no more wrecked nails! Anyway I love my nails! I have candy canes and a wee Christmas pudding on my ring fingers! The salon is spacious. Sacha is amazing and bubbly! Will definitely go back next year for a touch up or some new nail art hehehe Highly recommend!

I had a free lunchtime in Glasgow last week and decided to go and get myself a facial. This place…read morewas minutes from my hotel and it had good reviews. I'm a bit of a fusspot about my skin, so I was a little apprehensive. First things first, this salon is a bit tricky to find - it's under the arches but it's very easy to walk straight past it (I did, countless times). You'll find it on the left if you're walking towards the radisson blu hotel on argyle street. It's right under the arches of Glasgow Central station. It does say beauty in the window but it's easily missed because many of the shops are painted in the same green. When you get in you'll be greeted by friendly faces and lots of welcoming. You'll be made to feel right at home. I must admit I felt a little nervous because it's not the best looking salon I've seen. It could do with a little tidy up and it's certainly not a haven of peace, you'll hear trains running over the top of you (it's under the train bridge) and it's noisy with hairdressing if you're in one of the treatment rooms. So why the five stars. Margaret (?) was my therapist and she was lovely. We did a microdermabrasion and she did a fantastic job. A really thorough cleanse, lovely products and a pain free process (microdermabrasion can leave you red faced if the therapist goes too far with it!) The liquorice mask reminded me of many a night drinking sambuca (urgh) but it was worth it. It tingles a bit (which scared me) but don't be scared, it'll settle down and it was worth it! I came out of the salon glowing, and a few hours later, my skin had never looked better. Normally when I get it done in London, it takes a few days to show the effects. Not so here. I got so many comments on my skin that evening and actually it has felt great ever since. Even better, it's an absolute steal (compared to what I pay in London, at least). If I'm back in town, I'll be headed here.

A bikini wax can set you back up to £30 in Glasgow and so you are faced with the predicament of compromise- how cheap do you go without sacrificing hygiene, professionalism and your dignity? After recommendations from friends, I opted for Beauty In The City which seemed to offer good value for money. A small salon convieniently located on Argyle Street, hidden beneath the 'Heilenman's Umbrella' (that's Central Station bridge to the non-locals) it specialises in waxing, massage and nail care. I decided to go for the Brazilian which at £17 was more risky than a 'Playboy' but less intimidating than the 'Hollywood'. The salon seemed clean and well organised and I was pleased at how quickly I was seen. I was in and out in 20minutes and despite being the last appointment of the day, I didn't feel rushed. Beauty in The City is more Glasgow glam that city chic with hot pink walls and over-tanned members of staff to match. However, it benefits from another Glaswegian trait- incredibly friendly service. Beauty treatments are given from girls who will chat like they've known you for years. My beautician immediately put me at ease when I felt apprehensive, vulnerable and exposed. She was clear about exactly what she was going to do and made the whole process as pleasant as possible. A bikini wax is not for the faint-hearted however my discretion was considered throughout and I was made to feel comfortable. I'll definitely be going back.

It's also within easy walking distance from my office. This is my go-to for superb quality service when I need a little TLC after an intensive day at the office, before a special occasion or (sunny) holiday away. Beauty & Nails offers an array of treatments ranging from facials, massages, waxing, brows, lashes, tanning, manicures, and pedicures. I first went to B&N when they were running a special offer for my company. I was gearing up for a holiday, so I quickly booked an appointment. I can only really comment on the manicures and pedicures, specifically Shellac. Shellac is pretty much the 2-week manicure; this stuff lasts (unless you seriously abuse your hands and feet). The only issues with Shellac is: 1) If you get bored or are fickle, you're kind of stuck with the same colour for 2 weeks 2) If your nails grow as fast as mine, you're guaranteed to see re-growth on your nail bed within the first week, so I stick with the neutral colours so it's less obvious. Shellac is great for special occasions and when you're going on holiday because it doesn't chip... however, if it does within the first few days of having it done, the ladies at B&N are more than happy to repair it for you at no cost. The place itself is immaculate and intimate, and the service is always warm and welcoming. The ladies are gentle with your hands and feet, generally good banter, and are always professional. They are also stockists of Dermalogica products, which I'm a fan of. So when I'm in need of a quick lunchtime or after work beauty fix, B&N is certainly at the top of my list.

So, I booked an appointment on the 20th of December 2022 for the 24th of December at 1pm well aware…read moreof their cancellation policy as I have been getting my nails done elsewhere for years so know the process of nail appointments. I booked it on their booking system which I recommend no one ever does as then money can be taken out your account automatically. The company they use their booking system through makes it impossible to get a refund and also they use it as one of their silly excuses to not give you a refund. However, on the 23rd of December at around 10pm I took a covid test as I didn't feel quite right and progressively got worse as the night went on so thought I would check to make sure knowing I had this appointment the next day. It came back positive, and I made the decision to cancel my appointment even though I could technically still have gone however I was extremely unwell by the next day, coughing and sputtering, and I would have had to get a bus to the appointment, so it didn't make sense to go. I also didn't want to further spread covid especially with the that fact nail services usually require you to sit in close proximity of each other. I was trying to be considerate of the people who work there. I would never normally cancel so late on, I felt absolutely awful doing so. Being a customer in the nail industry for the past few years I've never once cancelled last minute but it didn't feel right to go having covid and being so unwell. I phoned their store as soon as it opened and got no reply. I phoned about 6 times within the hour and then called their other store in princes square and still no reply. I message their Facebook page and emailed them and no reply. I finally found a number in the booking system and messaged them to which they replied "got this" or something along those lines at around 11/12ish. The only other contact I got was a "xxx" response from the Facebook page hours later. I assumed that my booking charge of £10 would be taken off me however I did not expect to be charged the full amount of £54 considering it was due to something completely out with my control, but I was. I messaged them on Facebook explaining how I was being charged the full price and they basically said that they couldn't do anything about it and a load of other rubbish. No empathy or compassion for the fact I had to cancel due to covid. This caused me a lot of stress and I was already extremely run down with covid, so I decided to leave it until I got better but by then I just wanted to forget about it as it angered me so much. They didn't even suggest booking another day or explain that I would be charged full price. Communication was absolutely awful, and I feel totally taken advantage of and discriminated against for having covid. If I had cancelled last minute because of a situation caused by myself I would totally have accepted the full price charge however I thought they would be a bit understanding of my situation considering the past few years we have had however they were not. It has put me off ever going there again even though I had a few experiences beforehand and loved it. I have also told all my family and friends so that they never have to experience such an unsympathetic place.
