The only, very small, letdown was that the Crystal Steam Room was out of order. My mum also booked is for a massage afterwards, as recommended by the staff. From start to finish the experience was wonderful, the staff friendly and professional, and, with the exception of one very loud patron who's volume control was our of order, very relaxing. After our massage we were lead to the Drift Away room, complete with tea, loungers and beds! Honestly, if it weren't for the fact that our tummies were growling we could have stayed there all day! Also or would have been nice to have our complimentary Prosecco there, whilst lounging in our robes, rather than having to get ready and have it in the reception area afterwards.

But the last few times I've been have been a little bit of a disappointment to be honest. Sometimes the underwater jets wouldn't work, then it would be the massage jets were off or on one occasion the steam-room wasn't working. There wasn't a single day I was there in a six week period that there wasn't at least one major piece of the Thermal experience which wasn't working. Then there is the small things. The keypad locks on the lockers have never worked right and once I even had to ring reception and ask them to send someone down as it had locked away my clothes and refused to open. Not a very relaxing experience as you stand dripping in your towel. And on my last visit the one and only hair-dryer in the men's dressing room was broken. Minor issues, but for a place which charges £65 for a single days access to the thermal experience you expect everything to be perfect. Our membership also included access to the gym which I wasn't impressed by. The free weights available are minimal with the heaviest dumbbell being only 10kg. There are a few cardio machines and a few weight machines such as a chest press, again with very low maximum weight (40kg). It is incredibly small, but as you're likely to be the only person in there it probably won't matter. The thermal experience used to be superb, and I really hope it sorts out the issues in the future. But for me it simply isn't worth the (reduced) membership fee anymore.

I really like how the Beauty Boutique communicates, they sent me a reminder a few days earlier with everything I needed to know (which is not much, of course, but still a nice feeling to know I was not forgotten). Upon arrival, I had to fill in a short questionnaire about any problems that I may have and then I got the massage from Lynsay, who really did everything that could be done to my back, bringing me back to a normal life in just half an hour. I was so happy with the results that three weeks later I made an appointment for the same massage and a Dermalogica express facial. This is the visit that turned my opinion into a real five star rating. I mentioned in a review earlier that I am allergic to some cosmetic ingredients, but had yet to learn new details about my skin condition. Not only did Lynsay tell me what other specific items to be careful with (which is really such a big help for me after years and years of self patch testing and a hit-and-miss sort of sample hunt), but also she checked each and every product one by one to see whether she can use them on me or not. As soon as I can see what my future schedule looks like, I will book my next appointment!

Two words - amazing eyelashes!…read more I'm not usually one for beauty treatments and such, but I was tempted to try Beauty Boutique and Day Spa when I met them at the Malmaison Belles in the Basement event. The ladies there seemed so friendly and down to earth, and I was offered a discount due to being at the event, so I booked in for eyelash extensions. I am so happy with the result! I'd never had extensions before so wasn't sure what to expect. The therapist, Emma, asked me what sort of look I would like, as she can vary lengths etc depending on what you're after, and while I LOVE the full bhoona big lashes look, I felt that something more subtle would be most appropriate for now. The result is a really natural and polished look. No more gunky mascara! I'm really pleased that this will cut down my morning routine, while still adding a fluttery finishing touch to my face. Emma is so nice, and I felt really comfortable in the salon. It's a lovely place, tucked into a Bath St basement, but it's like a tardis - there's a lot packed in down there. There's the main part of the salon, where eyelashes and nails are done, which is quite nice actually because if there's a few of you, you'd easily be able to chat. Then there's the private rooms, where you can have a comprehensive range of treatments from massage, waxing, and all sort of serious sounding facials. Then there's also the spa area! There is a big jacuzzi, some day beds, and a relaxation lounge. It's ideal for couples or groups who'd like to have some treatments, as well as a relaxing soak and lounge-about afterwards. Apparently they do hen-dos and parties and so on. I was really pleased to be shown about, and the whole place seems lovely. I also really liked the service generally - it seems very efficient. There's an option to book on-line, but however you book, you'll get an email reminder, which is handy, and also a thank you note after you've left - how nice! In terms of price, I think Beauty Boutique and Day Spa are offering a good deal. At time of writing, eyelash extensions are normally £70 with Emma, which sounds like a lot, but compared to other places, that's really quite good. I checked another nearby popular lash place before booking, and they charge £100 for extensions with a 'Master Technician' and then you have to pay £50 for top-ups! That's ridiculous! I think that is really just taking advantage of regular customers who maybe don't want to try anywhere else. With Beauty Boutique and Day Spa, you also get a FREE top-up after 2 weeks, which is excellent. So the way I'm thinking, it's really like £35 per time for the first 2 visits, which is a good price. I'll be interested to see how long my lashes last. I've been given some good advice from Emma about how to look after them, and have already booked in for my top-up treatment. This is one beauty treatment that I could really get used to!

I wasn't sure exactly what type of massage to get (as they really do so many various kinds) so I explained to the nice lady on the phone & she said I could discuss my requirements on arrival with my therapist. My therapist was Isabel and she was very nice indeed. I explained to her my pain & she asked a few (relevant) questions & then said she would cater the massage to my needs ~ this being a back, shoulder, neck & face/head massage. Lovely job. I could not wait. My massage was for an hour and it was so so good. A wee bit sore at times but it was necessary as I was really knotted up & as tense as a very tense thing (apparently). She was very thorough and she did indeed massage all parts necessary, including my face which was so nice BUT as I didn't know I was getting a facial I had on my usual make-up which by the end of the massage, of course, ended up smudged all over my face! Ha ha! Oh dear...luckily they have a wee bathroom (with lovely smelling hand soap!) you can 'fix' yourself in after or else I would've scared the people of Woodlands with my mental clown face. Again. Doh. My particular massage treatment was £40 which you might think is a bit steep but for how much it helped me & how well it was catered to my needs I thought it was fair. Their website has a handy price-list so you can check how much your treatment should be before you go and check at what days/times they are available. Isabel recommended I come again in 2 weeks time (Yes, it was THAT bad!) and I did and again it was brilliant. She suggested monthly massages to me & I am actually really up for it as I am one of these people that really needs a good massage regularly. If only I was richer! Another really good thing about WH is that they stay open late on a Wednesday (and other evenings too), until 8pm I believe. This is great if you work 9-5pm. I love doing my nails myself and grow bored of my manicures quickly so I tend not to pay to get them done, but I'm no nail technician! My nails were in such a bad state shape-wise and I really needed to see a professional to sort the situation out! You can book in with Sacha via email and she works out of the Toni Cook salon. When I visited it was in their old location in Merchant City, but she informed me that they were in the process of moving to a swanky new salon just off Buchanan Street (above The Lab, where they are currently situated). I booked in about 2 weeks before my desired appointment time and I would recommend booking early as she's a busy little bee and appointments go quickly! I opted to go for a gel polish on my own nails rather than false acrylic nails. While I waited my turn in the salon I got a little nail wheel to browse the colours. There's a lot to choose from, lots of nice pastel-y colours and lovely dark vampy colours, as well as some sparkly numbers! I didn't really know what sort of design or look I wanted so Sacha suggested a few looks to me and I ended up going for a V design on some accent nails in alternating colours. I was getting my nails done specifically for my friends wedding and had a picture of my dress with me and Sacha helped me pick out some colours that matched well. Sacha was very professional and chatty during my manicure. She remembered me from the Yelp event which was really nice! I felt very relaxed while I was there and it seemed like my manicure flew in! I've been to some really standoffish nail techs in the past and have been entirely ignored while I've had my nails done, so I appreciate when someone can hold a conversation and still deliver an A+ manicure! I loved my nails when there were done and after 2 weeks they're still looking as good! My manicure came in at £25 which I think is pretty good considering how long it'll last. You can pay with cash or via paypal, card payments are also accepted but require a £1 service fee. Gel polish removal comes in at £4 which is nothing if you don't want to wreck your nails doing it yourself!! I've already booked in for my next manicure! I'd really recommend Sacha if you're looking to get your nails done, she does a banging manicure, she's super nice and her wee dog (who is really well behaved and comes to work with her) is so cute!! :)

Lucky for my efficiency, I got a spot, and told her I wanted gel nails! I remember Queen B getting em and they lasted forever! Perfect, since I'll be away from Glasgow for 3 weeks! Anyway, I easily found the salon via Yelp, headed through the alley and up the stairs. To my pleasant surprise, was greeted by Sacha's wee chihuahua. He cuddled me while I waited for Sacha to be done with the previous client. What a good way to keep me occupied! Haha So, Sacha is a wonderful manicurist. She uses a brand of polish from the UK (I don't remember the name unfortunately. Artist polish? Something like that) and says she insists on only using those because of its high quality. I appreciate her sincerity! And the nail polish is after all, super nice! She's also very welcoming, friendly and open to trying fun artsy things in your nails. "Open to experiments" she says! :) she uses an LED nail dryer thinggy that makes your gel nails set asap and that's like super amazing to me haha no more wrecked nails! Anyway I love my nails! I have candy canes and a wee Christmas pudding on my ring fingers! The salon is spacious. Sacha is amazing and bubbly! Will definitely go back next year for a touch up or some new nail art hehehe Highly recommend!
