Unfortunately, this is Glasgow and you're probably more likely to get struck by lightning than get a natural tan. So for fake tan lovers like myself, St. Tropez is a lifesaver! There's nothing worse than bright orange fake tan or really obvious streaky fake tan, St. Tropez gives you a natural glow that will make people wonder whether it's real or not. I'm really pale, think of a milk bottle that's tinged with blue. I'm so pale, that whenever I don't have fake tan or make-up on people ask me if I'm okay. This was pretty good at school, as if I couldn't be bothered with maths class then I'd play up that I was feeling a bit faint and sure enough I'd get a sympathetic; "yes, oh my, you are looking very pale, I think you should go home." Result! Morticia Addams isn't really the look I'm going for these days so I'm never without a bottle of St. Tropez. It's around £22 at this St. Tropez concession at Debenhams and they have a deal on that if you spend over £25 then you get a FREE spray tan which usually costs £30. This offer is fabulous and you don't need to get the spray tan done there and then, you can wait and book it for a time that suits you, great if you've got a special occasion coming up. The staff are awesome here, so helpful and really chatty, last time I visited they gave me about 20 free samples of moisturiser, exfoliater and tan. St. Tropez gives a natural colour that adapts to your skin tone and gives you the kind of colour you would naturally go in the sun. Naturally, I go a shade of lobster red before going golden but thankfully St. Tropez skips that step and goes straight for the results. There are a whole range of tanning products here, I usually go for the lotion, it goes on dark so you don't make any mistakes when applying it and no matter how badly you slap it on it always washes off to look perfect. Fabulous! In addition, St. Tropez uses high quality products so you always know what's going on to your skin, a much safer and healthier option to the terrifying world of sun beds!

Tans are impossible believe me I have tried. Unless you have that natural tint in your skin it is…read morepretty much a long lost hope trying to get a tan that stays for longer than the peel. I have used fake tan for many many years and despite my now well refined technique of tanning by myself, for that odd special occasion it is nice to get it done professionally. I would never go without fake tan, it has been a necessity from the age of about 16, but there have been a good few disasters or shall we say there was a learning curve. So if you are thinking about fake tan or even a seasoned pro, st Tropez will teach you a thing or two.

I had a free lunchtime in Glasgow last week and decided to go and get myself a facial. This place…read morewas minutes from my hotel and it had good reviews. I'm a bit of a fusspot about my skin, so I was a little apprehensive. First things first, this salon is a bit tricky to find - it's under the arches but it's very easy to walk straight past it (I did, countless times). You'll find it on the left if you're walking towards the radisson blu hotel on argyle street. It's right under the arches of Glasgow Central station. It does say beauty in the window but it's easily missed because many of the shops are painted in the same green. When you get in you'll be greeted by friendly faces and lots of welcoming. You'll be made to feel right at home. I must admit I felt a little nervous because it's not the best looking salon I've seen. It could do with a little tidy up and it's certainly not a haven of peace, you'll hear trains running over the top of you (it's under the train bridge) and it's noisy with hairdressing if you're in one of the treatment rooms. So why the five stars. Margaret (?) was my therapist and she was lovely. We did a microdermabrasion and she did a fantastic job. A really thorough cleanse, lovely products and a pain free process (microdermabrasion can leave you red faced if the therapist goes too far with it!) The liquorice mask reminded me of many a night drinking sambuca (urgh) but it was worth it. It tingles a bit (which scared me) but don't be scared, it'll settle down and it was worth it! I came out of the salon glowing, and a few hours later, my skin had never looked better. Normally when I get it done in London, it takes a few days to show the effects. Not so here. I got so many comments on my skin that evening and actually it has felt great ever since. Even better, it's an absolute steal (compared to what I pay in London, at least). If I'm back in town, I'll be headed here.

It was a dilemma. The emergency pre-holiday wax was needed and my usual beauty salon was closed…read more You can't trust just anyone when dealing with your more delicate areas, and more to the point, I couldn't afford just anyone. A bikini wax can set you back up to £30 in Glasgow and so you are faced with the predicament of compromise- how cheap do you go without sacrificing hygiene, professionalism and your dignity? After recommendations from friends, I opted for Beauty In The City which seemed to offer good value for money. A small salon convieniently located on Argyle Street, hidden beneath the 'Heilenman's Umbrella' (that's Central Station bridge to the non-locals) it specialises in waxing, massage and nail care. I decided to go for the Brazilian which at £17 was more risky than a 'Playboy' but less intimidating than the 'Hollywood'. The salon seemed clean and well organised and I was pleased at how quickly I was seen. I was in and out in 20minutes and despite being the last appointment of the day, I didn't feel rushed. Beauty in The City is more Glasgow glam that city chic with hot pink walls and over-tanned members of staff to match. However, it benefits from another Glaswegian trait- incredibly friendly service. Beauty treatments are given from girls who will chat like they've known you for years. My beautician immediately put me at ease when I felt apprehensive, vulnerable and exposed. She was clear about exactly what she was going to do and made the whole process as pleasant as possible. A bikini wax is not for the faint-hearted however my discretion was considered throughout and I was made to feel comfortable. I'll definitely be going back.

Ok I have to update my review from 11 years ago(!) - just for fun…read more I've been having my hair cut by Meg since... 2009 I think? I've been getting my hair cut at Rainbow Room salons since about 2005, though. I moved away in 2016, but Meg is still there and I still stop in whenever I'm in Glasgow because she just knows how to work with my hair better than anyone else. The salon has been remodeled recently and it looks fantastic. It's really modern, super bright, and they've made great use of the space. You still get a great view of George Square, too. The stylists seem to enjoy how functional it all is. Now that they have reopened they've continued to have strict protocols - minimising contact, spacing out appointments, and requiring masks. So much has changed, and so little. They still take the time to sit down and get to know their clients, consult on what they're looking for, and include some little luxury extras like a head massage before they wash your hair. They use good products and tools. My hair always looks and feels great once Meg is done with it. She also takes into account how it will grow out. Honestly, I usually leave thinking it's a bit short, but then 2-4 weeks later it sits exactly how I had hoped. With other hairdressers I often find I have split ends after a few weeks, but my most recent cut still looks great 6 weeks on and I'm still getting compliments on it. If you're looking for a hair salon in Glasgow, look no further.
