I had a free lunchtime in Glasgow last week and decided to go and get myself a facial. This place…read morewas minutes from my hotel and it had good reviews. I'm a bit of a fusspot about my skin, so I was a little apprehensive. First things first, this salon is a bit tricky to find - it's under the arches but it's very easy to walk straight past it (I did, countless times). You'll find it on the left if you're walking towards the radisson blu hotel on argyle street. It's right under the arches of Glasgow Central station. It does say beauty in the window but it's easily missed because many of the shops are painted in the same green. When you get in you'll be greeted by friendly faces and lots of welcoming. You'll be made to feel right at home. I must admit I felt a little nervous because it's not the best looking salon I've seen. It could do with a little tidy up and it's certainly not a haven of peace, you'll hear trains running over the top of you (it's under the train bridge) and it's noisy with hairdressing if you're in one of the treatment rooms. So why the five stars. Margaret (?) was my therapist and she was lovely. We did a microdermabrasion and she did a fantastic job. A really thorough cleanse, lovely products and a pain free process (microdermabrasion can leave you red faced if the therapist goes too far with it!) The liquorice mask reminded me of many a night drinking sambuca (urgh) but it was worth it. It tingles a bit (which scared me) but don't be scared, it'll settle down and it was worth it! I came out of the salon glowing, and a few hours later, my skin had never looked better. Normally when I get it done in London, it takes a few days to show the effects. Not so here. I got so many comments on my skin that evening and actually it has felt great ever since. Even better, it's an absolute steal (compared to what I pay in London, at least). If I'm back in town, I'll be headed here.

It was a dilemma. The emergency pre-holiday wax was needed and my usual beauty salon was closed…read more You can't trust just anyone when dealing with your more delicate areas, and more to the point, I couldn't afford just anyone. A bikini wax can set you back up to £30 in Glasgow and so you are faced with the predicament of compromise- how cheap do you go without sacrificing hygiene, professionalism and your dignity? After recommendations from friends, I opted for Beauty In The City which seemed to offer good value for money. A small salon convieniently located on Argyle Street, hidden beneath the 'Heilenman's Umbrella' (that's Central Station bridge to the non-locals) it specialises in waxing, massage and nail care. I decided to go for the Brazilian which at £17 was more risky than a 'Playboy' but less intimidating than the 'Hollywood'. The salon seemed clean and well organised and I was pleased at how quickly I was seen. I was in and out in 20minutes and despite being the last appointment of the day, I didn't feel rushed. Beauty in The City is more Glasgow glam that city chic with hot pink walls and over-tanned members of staff to match. However, it benefits from another Glaswegian trait- incredibly friendly service. Beauty treatments are given from girls who will chat like they've known you for years. My beautician immediately put me at ease when I felt apprehensive, vulnerable and exposed. She was clear about exactly what she was going to do and made the whole process as pleasant as possible. A bikini wax is not for the faint-hearted however my discretion was considered throughout and I was made to feel comfortable. I'll definitely be going back.

Ok I have to update my review from 11 years ago(!) - just for fun…read more I've been having my hair cut by Meg since... 2009 I think? I've been getting my hair cut at Rainbow Room salons since about 2005, though. I moved away in 2016, but Meg is still there and I still stop in whenever I'm in Glasgow because she just knows how to work with my hair better than anyone else. The salon has been remodeled recently and it looks fantastic. It's really modern, super bright, and they've made great use of the space. You still get a great view of George Square, too. The stylists seem to enjoy how functional it all is. Now that they have reopened they've continued to have strict protocols - minimising contact, spacing out appointments, and requiring masks. So much has changed, and so little. They still take the time to sit down and get to know their clients, consult on what they're looking for, and include some little luxury extras like a head massage before they wash your hair. They use good products and tools. My hair always looks and feels great once Meg is done with it. She also takes into account how it will grow out. Honestly, I usually leave thinking it's a bit short, but then 2-4 weeks later it sits exactly how I had hoped. With other hairdressers I often find I have split ends after a few weeks, but my most recent cut still looks great 6 weeks on and I'm still getting compliments on it. If you're looking for a hair salon in Glasgow, look no further.

I've been looking for something for dehydrated skin (the bane of my life) and decided to pop in here to see if I could get some help. Now this review was nearly a 2-star because the staff initially seemed a bit like they couldn't be assed and I was struggling to catch someone's else even though I'd been loitering in the skin care area for ages. Finally I got someone to help me and she was great - actually really helpful, showing me the products and happily gave me decent sized mini tubs to take home and try. I mean, if I'm going to spend £60 on moisturiser, I want to make sure it's amazing. This store is also a lot bigger than I expected and has a range of candles/bubble baths. If you're looking for something a bit more upmarket than Boots/Superdrug for your skin care and makeup, then Space NK is pretty damn amazing.

I just love Space NK, they have a fantastic range of innovative beauty products that you'll rarely…read moresee in other cosmetic stores in Glasgow. They stock NARS, Laura Mercier and stunning Shu Uemura eyelashes that will definitely make a statement. The staff are very helpful and you can get free consultations on the best products for your skin and tips on getting a flawless complection. I was once put in the direction of "Dr. Seabagh Foaming Cleanser" after a couple of months of breakout hell. I'd tried everything and this was a last resort, It wasn't cheap, £22 for 100ml bottle and I was sceptical but I decided to give it a go. It cleared up my skin in about 5 days, it was like a miracle! I swore by the stuff for nearly two years but then I moved to Germany for ten months and it stopped working. It could have been the water there but I haven't used it since. I might pop back soon to give it another shot as when it worked the results were fantastic and I'd recommend it to anyone who is looking for quick results for breakouts. As far as I'm aware Space NK is the only stockist in Glasgow, hurrah! They used to stock loads of Philosophy products but they don't have so many anymore. My favourite purchase from here was a lipgloss set from Philosophy which was called "A Few Good Men", these men were, "The Muffin Man" - a lemon muffin flavoured lipgloss, "The Gingerbread Man" - a tasty gingerbread lipgloss and my favourite, "The Ice-Cream Man." Unfortunately they don't have this set anymore, but who knows, maybe one day they'll make a return. Space NK is great, quite expensive but sometimes you need to pay that little bit extra when it comes to cosmetics. They also do sales now and then so you could grab yourself a bargain!
