As outlined by the USPS guidelines, these are just a small portion of the mail carrier's duties:
* Deliver mail along with parcels on foot or vehicle to prescribed route
* Ensure to deliver as well as pick up mail as per prescribed route through travelling either on foot or using mail delivery vehicles.
My mail carrier pulls into the yard, sits in the vehicle, blows the horn and expects us to come out to the vehicle and carry our own packages to the door, Furthermore, two weeks ago, while we were out of town, the carrier left a package in the mailbox that was clearly and prominently labeled LIVE PRODUCT, PERISHABLE, OPEN IMMEDIATELY. This was not brought to the door where the house-sitter could carry it in and open it. At least 60%-75% of the earthworms which were ordered for the garden died and dried up because of this delivery. Today, after being out of town, we found that the carrier had left another package in the mailbox 1-2 days ago that was clearly and prominently labeled LIVE PLANTS, PERISHABLE, OPEN IMMEDIATELY. They are now dead plants.
The carrier's job is to deliver the mail - in an appropriate manner - to the front door, when warranted. If packages are labeled specifically as being time-sensitive, live products or such, they should be brought directly to the door, not shoved into the box with no regard for the cash loss consequences.
UPDATE: today the carrier delivered three large boxes and left them on the front porch. All three boxes were crushed and had been taped back up (at the post office) because the boxes had been opened and re-sealed. The shipper always takes care to package their items carefully and these boxes were damaged, some of the contents were damaged and the re-tape job was poorly executed at best. When lifting two of the boxes, they just collapsed and fell away from the tape and the contents dumped out on the porch. I would rate this zero stars, if that was an option.
