I pulled out of Chase bank at Hickory Road and HWY 140 this morning (1/13/18) about 11am heading towards Hickory Flat School. A deputy in an Explorer pulled out of the new construction area on Hickory behind me as though giving chase. No lights or siren but rode my bumper so close that I couldn't see his front grill. With the growing number of wrecks on this very busy block, as well as the recent fatalities which have claimed neighbors of mine, it was a very uncomfortable and unnecessary traffic event. I turned right on E. Cherokee, deputy hugged me the whole time and then... crossed the double yellow to pass me in a school zone. Then entered oncoming lane and blocked traffic at E Cherokee and 140 intersection to have a black Nissan pickup pull over into old HF store lot where they spoke (maybe) long enough for the deputy to shake a finger... but not write a ticket. Then the Nissan went on his way. I am intensely curious about why a deputy in this county would/could break that many traffic laws and endanger any number of citizens for what was apparently a non offense. I'm pretty sure anybody else would have been field tested and cuffed. Unacceptable.

Please note that every review is either 5 stars or 1. That alone should speak volumes to the discerning reader. I don't know whether to be amused or disgusted when I read that there is (allegedly) too much of a police presence here. That's one of the most ludicrous criticisms I've ever read. I, for one, am happy to know someone is around at all times, looking out for all of us. Including any ungrateful haters. I would like everyone to know that the Woodstock Police Department is but one of the many reasons that this is a great place to live. My daughters car was parked in a parking lot after the accident. My daughter told the office that she had AAA towing. The officer insisted that she use American Towing, Inc. This company is now charging us $255 to get her car back. In addition, they will charge you $20 per day for ever day that they keep your car. This is one way that the City of Roswell is scamming its residents out of money. Carrie at American Towing said that they are contracted with the Roswell Police Department. She said that they arrive quickly and get the cars out of traffic. My daughter's car was not blocking traffic. It was parked in a parking lot. There was no reason that she could not have waited for AAA to arrive and tow the car to an auto body shop for free. On Monday, I attended a CRASE presentation by Officer King of the Marietta Police Department. CRASE…read morestands for Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events -- basically, what we as civilians should do in response to an active shooter before law enforcement arrives. This presentation was free to anyone who worked at the office complex where I work and was organized through WellStar Health System (who is a tenant in our complex). Given that mass killings by gunmen continue to rise in America, I thought it'd be a good idea to go just in the rare case my friends/family and I ever found ourselves in such a situation. However, it should be be noted that currently, the chances of someone getting shot in an active shooter event are worse than getting struck by lightning. The presentation lasted 1 hour. Officer King spoke for about 45 minutes and then left about 15 minutes for questions and answers. The presentation included a lot of real audio, video, pictures, and diagrams of incidents that have occurred in the past such as the Columbine High School massacre (1999), The Station nightclub fire (2003), the Virginia Tech shooting (2007), and the Panama City school board shootings (2010). The purpose of bringing up each real-life incident was not to scare us, but to teach us. There was something to be learned from how people responded to each incident. If people had responded to the threats differently, more lives would have been saved. Here are some takeaways I had from the presentation: 1. Wherever you are -- home, office, school, restaurant, store, etc. -- always know your exits. Where you came in from isn't necessarily how you're going to leave. Don't necessarily follow and go where everyone else is running to to escape. Be smart and think about alternative/best exits. 2. After calling 911, on average, it takes 3 minutes for law enforcement to arrive on the scene. 3. Don't hide and hope. At Virginia Tech, over 20 students were shot and killed while in the fetal position. By curling up under their desks, they didn't give themselves much of a chance to survive. 4. Don't be in denial of what's happening. You have to act and quickly. 5. If you can't escape, lock doors and barricade yourself. Try to buy as much time as possible before law enforcement arrive. Shooters are working against the clock and will take the path of least resistance to find people to kill. Even something as simple as locking a door could save your life. 6. Fight back. Rally the troops. Overpower the shooter. Try to disarm the shooter and take away their sight and breathing. Don't fight fair. Do whatever it takes to survive. Use whatever you have around you. For example, if you have a pen, you can use it to poke the shooter's eyeballs out. We watched some training videos of a simulated gunman entering a classroom. The class did simple things like standing a desk vertically in front of the classroom door to confuse and distract the gunman when he entered, even for just a split second, before disarming and attacking him. The presentation could have easily gone on longer, but 1 hour is all we were scheduled for. Parts of the presentation did feel rushed. There were no handouts nor could I find the presentation online. I think it would be helpful if the presentation/slides were available online. Luckily, you can search YouTube for CRASE and find other CRASE training videos online. Towards the end of the presentation, Officer King advised us to buy small trauma kits. In the case of a mass shooting, there likely will not be enough first responders to tend to everyone who gets shot, so trauma kits, with simple instructions, can make a big difference. He stood at the door with a stance - legs spread and he was cracking his knuckles while speaking to me. Why would I call someone like that for protection? This is a sad day, when a guy in uniform feels like he has to intimidate a little old lady. So the things you see on tv is wide spread. America just isn't safe anymore. What a shame. The lady at the front door counter was so helpful and courteous. We waited for less than 5 minutes before their names were called. The ladies at the license counters were also helpful and courteous. I was allowed to assist my parents when needed. The whole process from getting out of the car to getting back into the car was less than 15 minutes. There was approximately 40-50 other people in various stages of getting their license. It appeared to be a smooth process for everyone.

I tried to make a joke by asking if the t-shirts came with handcuffs and I got the same stone face stare I received when I asked how her day was. You'll wait 20 minutes for the smallest request but it is what it is.
