This post office stays open until 10 at night. For those days when you have a tax form, grad school application, or parcel full of coffee and newspaper clippings in your hot little hands and couldn't quite make it to any place of post before 5, you just need to jam it towards PDX. But it's worth it when that thing, whatever it is, is collected by the mostly good-humored person in the blue shirt on the other side of the counter and becomes No Longer Your Responsibility. Isn't it liberating when things are No Longer Your Responsibility? Take a deep breath. Aw yeah, that's it. If only this post office was more of a secret. It would be nice if the out-of-the-way location relieved the post office of its most volatile factors, meaning other customers. But chances are, even as most people are watching TV in bed for the night, you'll still encounter a bit of a wait. Case in point: A person with a thousand parcels and media mail items all being sent to various cities and townships heard one USPS worker say, "You can go up to whoever is free next," and exclaimed in reply, regarding the postal employee whom she was being helped by, "It's not going to be her!" In any of the other post office locations, this person would probably need to ask a few friends to walk her to her car after sending off her stuff. Some postal customers carry lead pipes is all I'm saying. But at the airport post office, this kind of a personality runs rampant. Be wary. read more

This is the best post office in Portland. Open LATE and on weekends, again LATE. If you need to mail something and its not 9-5, head up here and get it done quickly. I'll give you the biggest tip of all, if you mail something here you will cut 1 day off the delivery time. Why? Because it goes from here to the airplane. No bouncing around the city of Portland when it really needs to be in Chicago. read more

I will be the first Yelper to give this place 2 stars. This is "the Airport Post Office." It is also physically open 24/7, though it is staffed for some respectable lengthy hours. Short of the 9 p.m. postmark available downtown at the main facility on Hoyt, an 8:30 p.m. postmark is available here, and on this side of the river. That's a good thing. This post office seems to have gotten more popular. One used to be able to go in here, get their transactions processed without much of a line across a wider span of counter service hours, and experience very courteous customer service. All things must pass. The last few times I've gone in here, it was a good thing I allowed for 45 minutes to get through the line. Realistically, it took between 25 and 35 minutes, but a person is on pins and needles because, while you may just need to get a small parcel sent out, and buy some stamps at the same time, some people come here with a boatload of things in their arms or that they need to do. And, they might just be in line ahead of you. On one occasion, there were 2 windows open, but one was staffed by a trainee and, during the time there, the other person took a break and/or attended to things in the back. On the next occasion, there was alternating service between 2 windows, but it seemed that only 1 window was open at a time. The service is also more aloof than at other P.O.s. I recommend USPS branches in the suburbs. This is undoubtedly the metro area's second most important post office. Because they even have evening hours and that late postmark time, 2 windows, if not more, should always be open. Watching paint dry is not exactly exciting. read more

Pros: Great hours, convenient location, and my mail got home quick. Cons: got there around 4 pm. No line and only one window open. Open without a clerk. Clerk was busy in back by the doorway talking. Looked at me and continued to talk a few minutes. I could excuse him if he acknowledged me and said will be right there. But no he didn't just kept talking. When he did finally help me he said my 3 boxes where addressed wrong. I said sir I have addressed all my mail to this PO box for 15 years and just recently sent 5 boxes with no problem from another US Postal office. He said nope no such address, u must be missing mail. I said nope not one piece unless u guys lose it have never lost mail due to incorrectly addressing it. Continued to argue with me and finally accepted it and guess what boxes arrived to the address before I did since I was on vacation. read more

This post office is conveniently located to my office, so I usually come here when I need to send out a package. The lines are hit or miss...during the week I've noticed longer waits between 12-2pm. But it's a post office and most P.O's have lines regardless. Parking is a little wonky if it's busy too. But I really have no complaints and I prefer coming to this location. read more

First of all, when you drop here, it does not go direct to the air[plane, so the guy that wrote that, does not know what he is talking about. Its is open late and has the latest collection, however, it goes from here to the Hoyt street downtown post office, where it is then sorted and then sent out. So if you want to knock delivery time off, drop off at the Hoyt street station. But as Rod Stewart said: "A nod is as good as a wink to a blind horse" so although it seems logical that mail might go directly to the plane from here, it is not so. Many other cities, the airport post office is often the best choice for fastest delivery times; Honolulu for example, operates that way. read more

The hours are great, no doubt about that. And I'm sure that out-of-state mail gets on its way faster because it's already at the airport, so for those reasons I love this location. The folks behind the counter have always been terrific to me. Yes, the line moves slowly, but when you're at the counter, they take all the time in the world to help you, so it's worth it. But. If you need supplies, like Priority Mail boxes, you are out of luck unless you want Flat Rate boxes. They have those out for you to grab, but they don't have just the regular by-weight Priority Mail boxes. Not even behind the counter. Why not?! I mean, I get that there isn't much room to put out a ton of supplies in the customer area, but to not even have them in the back, upon request, doesn't make sense to me. To their credit, when I needed a box for my item and I didn't want to pay Flat Rate, they did rummage up a plain brown box up for me from the back. That was very kind and definitely beyond the normal duty. read more

First, the clerks were very helpful...helped with an international mailing for us...but the line was simply a hoot. Two gals rolled up with two large dollies, each piled high with boxes to post. Only two clerks. A postal clerk informed them that this time of year they needed to make an appointment to mail so many things to be fair to all the others in line. Of course, this infuriated the gals but made all the others behind them most happy. The rude cart ladies provided entertainment as the clerk tried to explain that by calling ahead their needs and that of everyone else who had parcels to post could be met. I must say that the clerk was diplomatic, fair, and non-budging. And our clerk (the other one) provided quick, efficient, helpful service. read more

This is the only 24 hour Post Office I'm aware of in town. Unfortunately, they no longer have a postal worker there 24/7 instead it's an automated machine. And after driving all the way out to Airport Way to get my mail postmarked for 2/14 I found out that the automated machine is out of service. Luckily I don't need my application postmarked until 2/15, but just a warning for all my fellow procrastinators: make sure you get here before 10PM. I still think this post office deserves 3 stars because in every other aspect they're awesome. However, it's kind of misleading to still have the 24-hour neon sign still lit up if the sole 24 hour machine is broken. read more

This PO is a good place to go on April 15th to mail out taxes. When I want a priority package to go out fast I send it from here. It is worth the drive to save 1/2 a day. They process it here and put it on the next available plane. read more

Needed a passport. Called the appt line. got an appt for the next day. I was the first appt of th day on a Tuesday I think and things got pretty busy in the passpost line after me. The woman I worked with was helpful, but not terribly warm. The place was empty when I arrived. Works for me. read more

This is my go-to post office. Three of my favorite postal employees work there: Marilyn, James, and Barbara. They're all fantastic, genuine, and like helping people. They are knowledgeable, helpful, and happy to talk. And they do a pretty decent job staying level and friendly even in the face of occasional jerky customers. Yes, during certain hours, the lines can be long. But just do your best to go during the less busy hours and you'll be fine. read more
