This is only my second or third time at this post office, but I have not experienced a problem so far. Btw... USPS Priorty Mail is cheaper than similar options at other delivery companies.

I came to this post office for only one reason last week, because it's the ONLY one I've found in the area open until 6pm on weeknights. If you work until 4:30 or 5 and don't want to wait until Saturday or take time off of work to actually go in and speak with someone in a post office, then this is the only option around open late enough. I had to talk to someone, plead my case and see what my options were. We recently received our shipment of postcard Save The Dates for our 2020 wedding. We sent two to ourselves, as a test, just by dropping them in a blue mailbox outside of a random town's post office, and they arrived in rough shape! Of course there were all kinds of marks/stamps on the side with the stamp and addresses, but then one of the pictures on the top left corner on back even had black ink smudged all over it. This same thing happened to both postcards. There were even scrapes under the address the cards were being sent to where some of the paper was peeled back. After putting so much thought and energy into which pictures and how many we wanted on the postcard, I was not at all happy with how they arrived in the mail. Soooooo, this is why I needed to go present my case, and my other 105 postcards to the Hartford Post Office after work, because I didn't want to wait til the weekend or drop the rest in a box where they'd arrive to our friends and family in an unacceptable condition. I went in to ask about hand cancelling the stamps, and was told everything is run through machines nowadays and that mail isn't hand canceled. I pulled out the stack of postcards and starting describing the damage that occurred when mailing my two 'test' postcards and that I was trying to prevent that from happening to the rest. As I flipped a postcard over and he realized what they were and that these were real photos of us, he said okay I see that it looks like you put a lot of work into them, what I can do is walk them to the back and see if the sorters will hand sort these so the machines don't damage them. I thanked him and left, understanding it was up to the sorters and even if he asked, it may not happen. I was hoping they were in a good mood and not overly busy and able to honor the request, but it was a mystery until my friend sent me a picture of the postcard she recieved the next day. It was in PERFECT condition, no damage or marks anywhere. The postcard looked just as it did when I left the stack with the most helpful man at the post office, and I appreciate him and his efforts, as well as whoever was involved in hand sorting them! I even offered to separate them into 2 piles, ones being sent out of state and ones staying in CT, but he wouldn't allow it. I was told that is what the sorters would do. Thank you USPS!!!

You know where this is going. A 30 minute appointment actually took two hours, mainly due to one employee named Ursula. She was disorganized and seemingly in no rush, in spite of a huge line and only one other employee behind the counter. She was working with a customer when I arrived, and when it was my turn I assumed I'd be next, but she took a couple who were 15 minutes late for their appointment instead. Fortunately for me, this turned out to be a good thing, because two other employees magically returned from lunch and I was assigned to one of them. All in all, although I accomplished my mission, this was an unnecessarily frustrating experience.

Just because you're serving people in a community that's drowning in poverty, they deserve the same service that everyone gets anywhere else. When I came out of there I was telling people about my dissatisfaction. They all had stories about how rude this clerk is. Maybe they don't know about calling the post master but I will be contacting them next. I don't think the people in that community know that they deserve better. It's really sad. The customer waiting in front of me was the most politest person and she still was rude.

I decided to wait a while, hoping the line would move quick given there were two employees working at the desk. No such luck. After 7 minutes, the same exact customers were still a the desk! I'm not quite sure why it takes so long to pay for postage, but I didn't want to waste my entire lunch break at the Post Office. I waited until 15 minutes past, and gave up. The line hadn't moved at all. They should really increase their staff, especially during the holiday season. I guess this is why I tend to just order my stamps from the USPS website and pay the shipping fee.

On so many occasions I've walked over to this office, which is supposed to be open weekdays 8:30 - 4:30, only to be greeted with "closed for lunch" signs at 2pm or randomly locked doors at peak hours. On my last visit, at 1pm I saw a sign that read "back at 2:30." Really. An hour and a half with no explanation. No wonder they're on the list of offices to be shut down. I think they could pack eggs and have them show up unbroken 3,000 miles later. They partner with Yellow Freight which brings the cost to half of what other shippers charge (who use various mail services). When Yellow Freight forgot to scan the four handmade box crates in Chicago (apparently quite unusual) and we weren't sure where they were, Scott offered to call Yellow Freight and described the crates so that could be more easily found. Everything arrived in perfect order and the boxes & inserts that Scott made were amazing. This is a family business, run by Scott and his wife, and they care about what they do. It shows.
