It would have been nice if you posted your new Saturday hours online, in addition to your changes on the building sign outside. I schlepped over there with huge items ready to be packaged on a Saturday a.m., only to find that you weren't going to be open for another hour! I didn't have the time to wait, so I had to schlep back home with my items again! Please update your website, and sites that post your hours! I gave this post office 3 stars because there is some good too: A really nice postal worker who helped me package up all of the items (when I finally returned a couple days later), and it was really easy renewing my passport. I wish I could give this post office 5 stars. I love post offices-- my dad worked at the USPS as a mail carrier (and other jobs) for 27 years.... :) read more

I have a hard time with all these 1 star reviews! My goodness people, it's a Post Office! I'm really glad that this one is so centrally located! I've been to this post office well over two dozen times and have never once had bad customer service. I've had grumpy service or a question repeated to me in an annoyed tone, but all of my packages have been delivered and all my fancy impulse stamp purchases were honored. (Seriously, so happy to have Harry Potter and Batman Forever stamps! Not Batman Forever, but Forever stamps that happen to be Batman themed!) If you go on the weekend be prepared to wait in line. If you go during lunch be prepared to wait in line. It's the age of smart phones so I think everyone can handle the waiting part now. If you're in a rush you are in the wrong place. But if you come with your package ready to send and you can use the automatic postage machine to weigh your package and print a label. No human interaction required! I think you can even use the machine to buy labels and packaging too! Need to send something overseas or to a military box and have no idea which form to fill out? ASK! The employees here always answer any questions I've had. I've gotten money orders filled, lost mail retrieved, and many many packages delivered here. It is my go to spot for sure! read more

The best thing about the post office is that they still deliver mail...sometimes. The U.S. Post Office has such a poor profile for service that its no wonder that there is a coined term "going postal" and that movies are made about their poor service. And there's a reason for this social forum that hates the Post Office. They have such a low level of customer service that people simply can't stand the organization or the workers. And its not always the worker's fault. Why is it that people hate the post office? Simple. The post office does not keep records of anything that is important to the customer. For instance, they don't keep a record of who cashes a money order? Why? There are hundreds of solutions for scanning small files of images and saving records for 7 years (until the I.R.S. doesn't need them anymore). But more importantly, a customer might need that record at some point. I'd pay a dollar to have a printed record to see who cashed a postal money order that I sent to someone. I'd pay a dollar to see if the money order was cashed. I'd pay a dollar to see if the money order was never cashed so I could get a refund. But the post office doesn't work that way. Its a corporation that doesn't care about losing packages (even though we pay good money to have them send it). Unless you PAY FOR tracking, they track nothing. Another example is this: I've been waiting four years for the post office to return $175.00 to me for a tracked package that they lost, ruined, or damaged. Have they written to me to notify me of the state of the filing? No. The papers that they had me fill out to file a claim were so blurred and poorly printed that I immediately realized that they had no intention of following up on my claim. I never use the post office anymore. Never. I've had better luck sending cash in the mail. read more

This location is in the heart of Eastern Market and the most convenient USPS for Capitol Hill residents to get to. It's full service and you can do anything there that you would at a USPS. The staff are quirky, but helpful (Shout out to Mrs. Yvette!). I will say there are long lines usually so factor that into your visit. read more

Okay so I sent off a package and anytime I try calling or emailing for that matter I can't get anything resolved b/c I'm always talking to a machine. This is disappointing because this world is becoming less people oriented and email there's no send opinion. Now the only reason why I'm giving 2 stars and not 1 is b/c I like the priority mail options and my post office is nice....but I hate this phone stuff. Believe me I deal w/special ppl all day too, but that's no excuse for not being able to talk to an actual person n not a bot! Went here today to request tracking services for an envelope. I asked Ms. Hines to explain the different tracking options (certified, return receipt, signature, etc.) and how much they were. Ms. Hines did not answer any of my questions but told me I needed to get out of line to get a priority mail envelope for tracking. Annoyed, I went to look for the envelope at which point she yelled from across the room, "Don't you need a certified mailing?" I replied that "I don't know what I need because you wouldn't answer my questions." I got the certified mailing slip and priority mail envelope, and got back in line. When I approached Ms. Hines the second time, she gave me a hard time for not attaching the slip to the envelope. I said, even more annoyed, "I don't know what to do... I don't work here." She told me to read the instructions on the form (the kind you need a magnifying glass to read). She then watched me struggle with attaching the slips to the envelopes correctly, while I asked her to help me. (She didn't... she just watched me struggle.) I walked out of there wanting to cry. I'm seriously disappointed that USPS employees somehow get away with treating customers like garbage. If your job is to deal with customers on a daily basis, and be the face of the agency to the public at large, then managers need to acknowledge this behavior is unacceptable among their employees and DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. It's called customer service! If this is how USPS operates, I think it should be privatized. This behavior wouldn't be tolerated in a private setting. read more

I wish there a was a different location to deal with but there isn't. Last week a package was lost and they have no idea where it could've went, and this week my package wasnt delivered after paying for overnight shipping and they cant even tell me which location to pick it up from. Yvette actually just walked away from me instead of offering any kind of help whatsoever, and after standing there 5 minutes thinking there was no way she just walked away from me, she came back to see a long line behind me and just told me to go to take a seat, where I waited 20 minutes before leaving without being given any help. Atleast when the package was lost last week , the other man in there a lot dealt with it in a professional manor. Such a headache. read more

Passive aggressive staff. During the time that vaccinated folks were not required to wear a mask I made an appointment to get my toddler a passport using the post office help. I sat waiting for 15 minutes passed my appointment while several others came in not wearing a mask. One worker turned them away and another worker served them anyway. The last guy who was refused service pointed and said what about me, and she told him I wasn't going to be served. Which she said nothing about to me during any of the time she asked me to wait. I told her the post office signage even noted masks were recommended but not mandatory. I left to walk home and get a mask and was served but the worker was beyond rude and applied their policy inconsistently. I get these times are tough but directness and politeness are key. These staff I am sure don't get treated all that well themselves but I did nothing wrong and did not appreciate how they handled the situation. My daughter was there with us over an hour. read more

It's like a post office in a Third World country..... disorganized, out of stuff, disinterested employees, nothing working properly, bad hours, long lines. Even the vending machines that sold stamps have been taken out. Today, I wanted to buy stamps and was annoyed that the vending machines were gone and that I had to stand in that long line. Finally got to the front of the line and the only stamps they had were holiday stamps. I don't want holiday stamps.... it's the beginning of November and I'm not particularly religious. If the USPS goes bankrupt, these employees, and this particular location, will be the hallmark example of why. This location accepts passport applications and takes passport photos. Allegedly. I enter, see the passport photo backdrop, notice the prominently displayed passport applications and related paperwork. I take what I need and wait in line. As soon as the clerk sees that I am waiting, she turns around and pretends to mess with a stack of boxes behind her. I sense that she wants me to continue waiting for no apparent reason. I ask, quite nicely, when do you guys accept passport applications and take photos? The clerk looks at me like I just asked her to move heaven and earth for me. She responds that they aren't taking any this week. So my follow up is something like, what windows of time or on which days do you take appointments? The clerk responds, after we have a few seconds of a stare contest, "I don't know what you want. We don't have any appointments this week. When do you want to come in? We don't take passport applications anymore. You have to go to Brentwood Road. That's what I've been telling people." Sounds like she really knows what she's talking about. But to be blunt because I don't appreciate being treated like this, I can sum up this location with the following terms: hateful, rude, unhelpful, unintelligent. read more

This is the worst USPS location. Not only is the staff incompetent, but they are also very rude and unhelpful (I can only speak to the three females that I interacted with on two separate occasions). There was one member of the staff who helped me mail a package using the computer system in the entryway. She completed all steps for me and although I paid to have my package sent to California, it was sent to my home address because of the location of the "to/from" (which was my mistake but she did not correct it. USPS has the customer hand write this on the package). When the package arrived, the contents were completely smashed despite the fact that bubble wrap was used. When I took the package back to explain the situation, I received a very unprofessional and rude response from one of the female employees. After a few minutes of talking to her I realized I was getting nowhere and waited to speak with another employee named Binta who was much more professional, but unable to help. She told me to submit and online claim about the damage, wait for a form to arrive in the mail, and then bring the broken package back along with the form. Government bureaucracy at its best! Even though I was standing there with the broken package, I was still instructed to follow a lengthy process. I proceeded to ask if it would be possible to receive a refund for the money I paid to have my package shipped to CA since it was mistakenly sent to the return address. She said I would have to call the supervisor and leave a message. I am not holding my breath! I plan to walk my business across the street to UPS in the future. Bottom line: this USPS location is fine if you know what you are getting yourself into, have low expectations, and are not worried about package damage/loss. read more

I can't believe I am writing a review of a post office, but this one is above and beyond the worst post office in The United States. There is always a horrendous line, not enough staff, or the staff are just standing around doing nothing, and they make zero effort to swiften up the pace when the line is long. This post office is walking distance from my house, yet it is quicker and more pleasurable for me to get in my car and drive to the SW Post Office next to the DMV by Nats Stadium. As one of the other posters mentioned, this place takes years off my life. Should be avoided like the plague!!!! read more

It's a small PO that serves a LOT of people- nearest other PO is at Union Station or across the river- so I give them a shout out for their patience - Ive been going there for years. To describe the employees at this post office in a few words: Unhelpful. Unprofessional. Unreliable. Smart asses. Out of touch with with U.S. Postal Service's mission statement, which can be found in Section 101(a) of Title 39 of the U.S. Code, also known as the Postal Reorganization Act: The Postal Service shall . . . PROVIDE PROMPT, RELIABLE, AND EFFICIENT SERVICES TO PATRONS IN ALL AREAS AND SHALL RENDER POSTAL SERVICES TO ALL COMMUNITIES. There were no reliable services rendered to THIS patron when he rushed out of work early to get to this location by 4:55pm. I arrived to a post office that not only had its doors locked, but it's security gate was already being drawn! The workers inside ignored my five minutes of tapping on the glass door and diverted their eyes whenever I made eye contact ... until exactly 5:00pm, when someone walked over to me and mouthed "we close at 5", then looked at her phone, then looked at me again, pointed at her phone, and repeated, "we close at 5." When I responded that I had gotten there before 5:00, she repeated, "we close at 5." Cute. read more

BEWARE of this place. I sent my friend a small bottle of perfume as a Thank You gift for helping me, and when the package arrived to my friend in NJ, she was really confused because someone had clearly slashed the packaged open (bottom right corner) and replaced the PERFUME with COMPRESSION KNEE HIGH STOCKINGS. The only person that I disclosed that there was perfume in the package was the woman who took my package (when she asked me if there was anything "liquid, fragile, or potentially hazardous") and my friend's mailbox is in a locked, secured location. With it being the holiday season, I would have been likely to come back to this location with other gifts, but knowing that there is a thief who is willing to commit federal offenses for a small bottle of perfume leads me to believe that anyone who is sending anything they care about should go elsewhere. I hope to find an email for management of this location so that I can also make it known that they have a thief on staff. read more

I mailed a birthday card with a gift card inside. My sister received the card after it had been ripped open, taped up, and the gift card stolen. Never ever mail anything from this site. I had been warned not to visit this post office but didn't heed the warnings, so hopefully others will heed my warning! read more

I'm not sure if it was the management cracking down on the laundry list of complaints about rude and bad behavior among the postal staff - but its worked. The staff is much more cordial and reasonable. The lines are still long - but the service is now professional. read more

This post office is really hit or miss. Sometimes you get helpful staff, and sometimes you get staff that talks crap about you, loudly, in front of other employees and customers b/c you didn't follow what she said, exactly how she said. It was bad enough that I contacted customer service through the usps.com and got the "we understand you had problems recently..." gee. thanks. Or you get the guy who tells you that its not his job to help you seal (aka put tape on) your box. I get it guy. Maybe take pity on a girl? It isn't as though you keep scissors in the packaging area or that it takes longer than 20 seconds. The lines can definitely get long, but they seem to be on par with other USPS locations I've been to in DC (Union Station, Dupont) and move relatively quickly. read more

Great staff, good supply of priority mail boxes, etc. Saw a postal employee suggest a different box to a customer for a tennis racquet, she had a giant box she had to pay for, it would have cost $100 to mail, he showed her a long thin priority mail box she could use and ship for $8. Updating due to the fact that I realized now, a few days later, that due to one of the employee's rush to get me out and pay as much as she could get me to on a particular service, she inverted the zipcode and sent my packages to the wrong location. She didn't even bother to double check that the zipcode matched the address written on the package. I wouldn't be so irritated if this was the first time this had happened or if the employee treated me with courtesy, but it isn't the first time and she was incredibly rude. I also overpaid for the service that she said would be cheap. I really wish the USPS would do something about this branch. read more

However, I wonder if that was the result of my filing a complaint with the central office, rather than to any professional committment. At any rate, it was sheer luck that I got it after all. One day I decided to call them again and see if my package had turned up. Surprise surprise, they had found it a few days before, but nobody had bothered to tell me. They make a point of always having long lines by having one or two staff on break,no effort to work faster to keep the lines down. Never see anyone who looks like a supervisor around trying to move things along. Always dread going there. They should be open all day Saturday like a normal retail business. read more

The Post Office in general has been battered with all sorts of irrational security requirements since 9/11. They have also been tasked with literally tons of bureaucratic paperwork that is required for passports, which are, in turn, more required since before 9/11. Throughout it all the staff of this branch on Capitol Hill gets the job done with grace, good humor and professionalism every day. This is a good post office, they just need more staff. read more

There is hardly ever a line here during the week. They man and woman that seem to Always be working are friendly and helpful.

Toll Free Customer Service Help Line: The woman I spoke to was AMAZING! She listened intently, compassionately, and encouragingly. She sent my problem on to the regional customer service and explained the procedure my complaint will navigate. Now whether the Denver Regional Office responds is another matter, but if they are as gracious as the Lady in DC, I have high hopes! read more

If I could give it minus 5 stars, I would. What have I done to the universe that it put me in a neighborhood with a post office so rude, incompetent, and inefficient? The hours are completely ridiculous. Nobody with a job will be able to use this station during the week, and on Saturdays the place is packed to the gills. Not that I really ever want to go there. I absolutely dread it. Just about every time I have to go I am either treated rudely myself or I witness another poor schmuck being treated disrespectfully. The boiling anger and discomfort among the waiting customers is always palpable, and every once in a while one of them will engage in a shouting match with one of the slow-moving, ill-mannered clerks. It's not my style (I prefer to cool off by writing bad review on yelp : }), but I can certainly understand where they are coming from. I'm now trying to minimize my contact with this station by sending my packages from downtown and requesting UPS shipment whenever I order something. It's definitely worth the extra cost. read more
