Wanted to renew passport and chose this location . This USPS office is located good and has lots of parking outside . They also have a bagel shop and few other good spots around . I actually liked the space inside this USPS Location. Lockers , stamps and other stuff available. The whole office has good light and ventilation. Terrible, arrogant and disrespectful staff at this South Plainfield USPS location. The worker acted condescending, kept transferring me around for no reason, and made sarcastic remarks while I just wanted to mail a small package. They picked the most expensive shipping service without telling me, overcharging me unnecessarily. To make it even worse, the staff secretly clicked "satisfied" on the customer survey for me, trying to cover up their bad service. They look down on customers, have zero customer service skills, and treat people with obvious attitude issues. Worst post office I have ever been to. Avoid this location at all costs. read more

This is the worst PO I have ever been to. I go there no longer since Doug retired. Everyone is nasty and rude. The delivery man we have is excellent, it is Sean Henderson. However, if he is off the ones filling in are absolutely stupid and lazy. I put a lot of my mail in the box to be taken by the carrier. Sean always takes my mail, but the one who is filling in, like today, 1 Jan 2024, is an idiot. He delivers our mail, but leaves the outgoing mail in the box. What an idiot. Try to call the PO now for about an hour, but nobody picks up the phone. It automatically disconnects after some 50 rings, another bunch of dimwits working there I guess. I ship a lot international, but drive to another office where I get a great service!! No wonder why this PO has the worst possible reviews. I long ago decided to stop using this Post Office's counter service because the lines are very long and some of the staff are rude (although Doug is always very nice.) Since I run a mail order business, I'm happy they have the 24/7 kiosk, which means I don't have to stand on line and the postal clerks have one less person to interact with. However, the lobby area is a disgrace. The Post Office has an obligation to have envelopes available for various mailing services so that people can utilize them when they want to use the kiosk. However, the supplies are almost never refilled. Based on my experience, the bins for the envelopes and boxes have not been serviced in about a month. I can't tell you how many people I've come in later in the evening when I use the machine only to find they can't get a Priority Mail envelope to mail paperwork in. They leave in frustration. Now the situation is out of control. They have let virtually ALL of the supplies dwindle to nothing. It doesn't affect me personally because I keep all the USPS supplies I need at home. But this is ridiculous. How can the Postmaster let this happen? All he or she has to do is assign someone to fill up the bins before the Post Office closes every day. It would take ten minutes. This type of poor management needs to be addressed. read more

I had a 1:45 PM passport appointment so I got to the post office @1:20PM and was told to join the passport line instead of the regular line.I was the second person in the passport line and there were 2 post office workers, one was doing the regular post office duties and the other were supposed to be helping the folks in the passport line with appointments. The white racial woman that was suppose to be working on the passport line was very rude , obnoxious and very discriminating towards color people stating she needs to help the paying customers and not the people that have appointment. She told me I can call the 800 number and complain because she pay customers is what she's there to help. I stand in line for about an hour before she stepped up to help me . I use to work here this has got to be thee worst office I've ever worked for, Managment is sexist and shows way too much favoritism amongst the coworkers, lets not forget the lack of support from some coworkers because they just don't care to help new workers coming in. The Postmaster does nothing but wants everyone to be her friend!! The area where the live postal employees work closes off at the end of the business day, but the main doors stay unlocked to allow access to the area with the automated postage machine as well as a large drop box that allows you to drop off pretty big packages. read more

Shocked and still upset by the treatment I received. I walked away, but the next time this happens, I will call the Police and report that the Postmaster is refusing to give me my mail. Tahira, the postmaster of the South Plainfield Post office is completely unprofessional both in attitude and appearance. I never thought she was the Postmaster by the unreasonable way she conducted herself. People like her should not be put into managerial positions! I have a PO Box at this location. On 4/1/18 around 8:30 I went there to get my mail. I found a notice that a large box could not fit in my box. There is a call window that shows the hours that they open at 7 AM. I rang the bell couple of times, could see many workers there working and nobody that acknowledged that I even existed. After standing there about 10 minutes, as a man approached the window, I asked can someone please help me. He went to get someone. A woman approached and asked what I wanted. I explained I needed to pick up a box. I assume I must have bothered her from her coffee break or whatever she was 'busy' doing. as she told me you have to come back at 10 when the Post office opens. I explained to her that I work, and could not come back later and by the time I left work, the Post office was closed. She would not hear reason, she insisted that I had to come back and that she would not give me the package, no matter much how much I yelled. In reality I was not yelling, I had laryngitis and was having a hard time speaking. Many times I asked her to please give me the package, her response was NO! She would not hear reason, no matter how much I pleaded with her. What would it have cost her to give me the package, even if there was such a "rule"... Rules are broken all the time. I see if there were people in line or that I go everyday to "bother" her. I was the only one., at the time. I pay for my PO Box and I expect better service.. The hours that the Post office is open are ridiculous. I do not work in town that I can easily go there on my lunch hour and by the time I leave work the Post Office is closed. The only time I would be able to go would be on Saturdays.... When I filed a complaint both people I spoke to where shocked at the treatment I had received and said to me, what would it have cost her to give you the package? One of them also told me that they know her well... this is not the first complaint against her. From the reviews here I can see there are other negative reviews. I worked for many years as a customer service representative, I always went out of my way to help and treat a customer with respect. I have filed a complaint with the Manager of the Consumer affairs in Edison. And as of 4/3/18, I have not been dignified with any response. So there is no way that the Post Office will try to correct and improve their services. What a shame... read more

Love this location! The workers are always so kind, and they even went out of their way to make sure a few different packages got to me on Sundays. It's very convenient that they are open 24/7. Mail delivery service (to an apartment, which may be the reason) is slacking - many packages returned to sender, marked deliverable and after two years I'm still receiving mail that is to other residents who have since moved and the post man just crosses off their name on the envelope. read more

Go to Piscataway New Market branch or Devine's in Edison instead where there is proper customer service. This is what the well-informed do to avoid the nasty conduct at SP, including the blonde woman trying to grab stamps out of your hand that you paid for out of the 24/7 machine as if you are a thief because they are stuck in the chute. I told them that the 24/7 machine was charging an incorrect price for flat rate envelopes, but of course they do not care. The older African American woman always looks like the world is ending. Doug is the only nice one at the counter. Our mailman delivers the wrong mail to various people in the neighborhood, but nobody cares when we complain. The online PO feedback has never responded to my complaints. Then the post office wonders why it has a financial loss. read more

It seems like they only have one or two workers on shift at a time who take their sweet time doing everything with a scowl on their faces. I waited 10 mins in line. The woman behind the counter informed me that my white box was not appropriate to ship (I needed a first class box/envelope according to the prepaid shipping label) I asked her where I'd find such a box/envelope and she pointed and added that I couldn't use her tape. Since I'm 9 months pregnant with a toddler in hand. I grabbed the envelope she pointed to, went home and returned to the post office at the end of the day. I went back to the same lady and before I sealed anything I asked her if it was correct, she said yes and then she proceed to charge me and additional $3.09. I told her I paid for shipping already and she told me the charge was for the envelope. I asked her why she didn't tell me earlier that there was a fee and she looked around and said she did (she didn't). Then I asked her that whenever I have a first class label I have to buy their envelope or box? And she said no, any brown box would work. I asked for my package back and she said no I have to pay for it because I sealed it. At that point, I lost my cool. I told her I have a million brown boxes at home and asked why she didn't say that the first time or before I sealed it!? She didn't have an answer. I felt purposely manipulated into making a sale. I told her that she needs to learn how to communicate more clearly with her customers. This was a very disappointing experience. I will be sticking to UPS from now on, they are truthful, helpful and don't mind if you use their tape if you make a mistake. read more

This post office is the worst, it's the pits. I never had so much trouble with another post office with regards to package delivery. My biggest complaint is with whomever does the package delivery to my neighborhood, because with regards to that, they are incompetent or just plain idiots. Here is what this post office has done to me so far in the five months I have been in South Plainfield -- first, this post office actually refused to deliver packages to my doorstep; notices would be left in my mailbox telling me to come pick up the packages. And then they would report that the packages were delivered to me even before I had a chance to actually pick them up. When asked why the post office won't deliver my packages to my doorstep, the only excuse the clerk would give is that if a package doesn't fit inside my itty-bitty tiny mailbox, it won't be delivered. In another instance, after my complaint about an undelivered package, the USPS rep promised delivery would be attempted, but (oh what a surprise!) it was never delivered -- instead, it got returned to sender. In a separate instance, no delivery was attempted, and the package went missing. Poof, into thin air!! And finally, the piece de resistance -- the post office twice left packages for me at my next-door neighbor's doorstep. Seriously, is it really that difficult to look up and read the house number on the front door before putting down the package?! But maybe I should just be glad that they were actually trying to do the deliveries in those last two instances... The above list probably could have been longer, but I consider myself lucky that my internet shopping place uses UPS, Fedex, Lasership and various other businesses. The sad thing is, I don't remember any other post offices being this unreliable and incompetent. And for cases such as mine, I don't think anyone there is paying attention or trying to improve the way they run their business. Perhaps that is an indicator of sorts that the USPS as a whole is indeed going down the dumps, as it has been over the last decade or so. Ultimately, If I had a choice, I would NOT use the USPS at all, not for package deliveries (not after all my troubles), and not for mails (who needs mail when you have email or electronic billing?). read more

Worse place to go. According to the USPS website, you dont need an appointment to apply for a passport. But when you get there, the postman will tell you that you do. However, there is no phone number listed on the USPS site to call to make such appointment. Why dont you just say "we do not offer passport service????". It used to be a walk in place 9 years ago.
