I rarely write reviews but today I met the rudest postal worker at the Ramsey Post Office. It was like she was doing me a favor. Poor service and bad attitude. And this is why I usually go to UPS but my package had to be returned there, There is one very sweet women there who does the passports. She is efficient and friendly. I've never had a problem with this post office, the people who work in it, or the carriers. The USPS has been systematically starved of resources for several decades. What is perceived as ineptness is a self-fulfilling prophecy engineered by years of neglect due to political interests whose fondest wish has been to privatize the USPS and have endeavored to make it look as bad as possible to achieve this end. read more

The mail delivery in Ramsey NJ is horrible, we are constantly missing mail, important mail. I have been in contact with the post master many times and absolutely nothing has been done to address this situation. They just don't seem to care. I work by the Mahwah USPS location and needed to ship a few packages earlier today. I want to support USPS so decided to go here, bad mistake! The attendant there was very rude and not helpful!! When I asked for help or a question, I received an attitude. I had 3 packages to ship and I went to the attendant and asked for envelope options. She gave an attitude and pointed towards the door. They were not clearly labeled so I asked her for some clarification, again I got an attitude and she begrudgingly walked over and pointed and said, "Envelopes are here!". I told her some of the price signs were confusing and wanted to confirm the prices. She got an attitude and pointed and barked out the prices and walked away. I chose a few envelopes and before deciding on them, I wanted to check the weight and price before writing the shipping address on them. The attendant again gave an attitude and when I put my boxes down on the counter no where near or touching the scale, she told me that I had to clear everything off the counter for the scale to get a proper reading. I thought that was a little ridiculous, because all I had was my wallet and a few packing slips, nothing huge or heavy. I moved my things off the counter and into my tote bag. I got the prices for the envelopes and the areas I was shipping to. At this time, the store was completely empty, nobody was in line waiting to ship anything. I asked if I could quickly package everything there, she said no and made me walk everything over to the desk. I only had her weigh 2 of my 3 packages since I knew exactly how I wanted to ship the 3rd one. I came back to the desk once I was done filling everything out. I asked her to borrow some tape to seal the 3rd package. She gave me the tape and said, "you didn't tell me you were shipping a 3rd package!" I told her that I knew how I was shipping it and didn't know it mattered. With this package, all I had to do was quickly fill in a label and tape the box. Again there still wasn't a soul in the store. She made me take everything off the counter and back to the desk to fill out the label and tape the box. She could have started weighing my other packages and ringing them up, instead she made me take my tote bag, wallet, completed packages and the package I needed to tape back to the desk. I hope that her supervisor or someone from the USPS sees this review, because the treatment and attitude I received today is exactly why USPS is failing and people choose other carriers such as UPS and FedEx. I would rather pay more money at UPS or FedEx and get better customer service, then pay less money and receive an attitude the whole time I'm standing there or asking for assistance. Next time I need to ship anything, the Mahwah USPS won't be getting my business! read more

This post office represents well the negative stereotypes people have with government run services, where the workers hate their job, and can't be fired for their ineptitude, so they spend the time passing on their apathy and discontent to people in line (who pay their salaries through their taxes) - at times bullying them by being picky with package or postage, and most other times looking at you like you're bothering them by keeping them working and with a job that supports their miserable lives. It would probably help if they didn't allow the workers at the counter to be sitting at all times - they should be standing and alert, ready to be of service, instead of lounging in their chair and taking their sweet ass time to handle customers, or to call the next in line, instead of pacing themselves so they can handle the least amount of customers as possible in a given day. Sitting in a chair inherently makes you lazy and less willing to get up and go check/fetch something in the back or be attentive to people at eye level. Just this morning i went to ask for some supplies for Priority shipping, and the woman at the counter said that they didn't have the specific envelope i was looking for (without even checking in the back), and while i lingered around (no one else was in line behind me) to look for a another location that may carry them, telling her my case and why i need one/some now and i couldn't wait for them to ship them to me, she finally reached under the desk and gave me the envelope i was looking for. I mean... WTF. If she has them under the desk then there must be some more in the back - the fact that i asked her for a few (5), she probably had one or two under the desk, but for more she had to go to the back of the warehouse to get it for me, so she decided not to bother and just say that they didn't have them. And this was first thing in the morning (8:15 AM when they open), and i was only the SECOND customer she attended to. So she wants me to go look for this in other offices and waste my time, so she can be free of customers to attend to, basically. Pathetic. Lots of apathy. read more

Each time a priority mail goes to this postal code, it never arrives to the recipient between 1-3 business days. Why?

All I can say about this post office is be prepared to waste around 30 minutes of your time. There is ALWAYS a huge line out the door. It is insane. Also, they open at 10AM? Maybe if they opened at a more reasonable hour the place wouldn't always be a total mob scene. The staff is usually friendly and helpful but then again one or two times I walked away thinking I experienced terrible costumer service. read more

Every instance I can think of when I've come here I've been given a problem. There's usually one person available who is slow moving and rude. I've been given a hard time for breaking a twenty dollar bill. My mother has called to let them know that we have consistently had our mail delivered else where which has resulted in stolen credit cards and late fees for her insurance etc and they could not care less. I've called to make an appointment for my passport and the person I spoke to basically told me to go to allendale's post office. I know they don't care because they're federal employees / have the same benefits or whatever, but for your own well being, stop being so miserable already! It's extremely aging. read more

This is the worst post office I've ever been to. It's the closest to my house, but I go out of my way to avoid it because it's just that bad. The two ladies who are pretty much always working at this post office are so unprofessional that it's almost unbelievable that they're still there after all these years (until you remember that it's a government job.) Things I've seen one or both do: CUT HER NAILS right there behind the post office desk, pick her nose, work intentionally slowly (at least it has seemed this way on multiple occasions), play with her cell phone for minutes while people are waiting on line. I love the USPS (think about how cheap they make it for us to send stuff across the country!), I love stamps, and I send a lot of mail. I've been to a lot of post offices. This one is the worst. (In case you're curious, my favorite local post office is in Allendale- they are so friendly! Franklin Lakes is okay, too.) read more

Absolutely terrible. Majority of workers move deliberately slow and do not care if people are waiting. I have seen one of them eat popcorn right in front of customers. There is a complete lack of customer service and honestly they give government workers the bad image that they have. read more

This place is a case study in apathy! The people that "work" here are inept and could care less about the customer's they are suppose to support. I hold senior management accountable!!! From now on I only go to Wyckoff, where the staff is helpful, attentive and concerned about customer experience. Which is probably the reaction the Ramsey staff wants, less customers, less work, more time to daydream away. Sad that this is tolerated at any level....This would never be allowed in the private sector! Businesses fail because of this type of service, or lack there of. read more
