After we made an appointment for a few days later and although we checked the web site current regulations where we only needed the parents to show our faces, we were told that they also needed to see our little girl in the flesh. A third trip to accomplish what we set upon. Once we had satisfied all of the obstacles, we submitted the application and now we wait. Hopefully, our little girl can go to Aruba for Christmas. As an aside, both of the people in the post office we very friendly and genuinely seemed interested in helping us acheive our goal. They were informative and at the same time, sensitive to us in our dilemma.

If you are nice to them, they are nice to you. I don't think I was always nice to them so I don't know when I decided to just not be such an ass but it has worked in my favor many, many times over. When I sent out my first wave of wedding invitations I asked Rosa (Who is usually at the last station at the far right) if she could hand cancel my invites because I didn't want them to get eaten by the machine and she did it! Pete (who got transferred to Miller Place) also helped me out with the invite situation. They've looked in the back for empty boxes for me to ship things and always go above and beyond to help me. This PO use to have one of those automated machines but it's gone now which sucks. I have to head over to Smithtown on 111 for that. It's a small PO but if you're just sending things out and picking up it works just fine!

The carriers have plenty of non-working holidays but I believe they make their own holidays like "Tuesday" and "Friday". Anyway, I sent her in by herself and told her to ask for assistance if needed. Well...the clerk was rude and bullying. He dressed her down in front of the other customers. People like this don't realize the harm they do to when they lash out at people with special needs. He should be stuffed into a back office and not be allowed to deal with the general public. When I went inside to check on her, he kind of sort of offered a lame apology. But it will be a bit more difficult for her, confidence-wise, the next time. Thanks, dude.
