All in this little itty bitty building nestled in this quiet little town of Carnation. That and everyone who works there is *crazy* nice!!! Nothing like the post offices of past homes (Renton on 4th!! how I loathe the!! I couldn't even write a review because it constantly came out too mean). It makes a world of difference when someone is nice. And the people at the Carnation post office are genuinely nice. When I moved in, I had to put a hold on my mail because I needed to get a mailbox at one of those mailbox blocks (I moved to a rural area) and it took a little time. By the time I picked up the mail I had a TON of it. Was there a problem with the post office - no, not at all. There were smiles on faces. AWESOME!! I visited Wenatchee Valley with my aunt and my uncle on Veterans Day in 2020 (Wednesday 11 November…read more2020). We drove through Wenatchee and visited the Pybus Public Market where my uncle got a free bag of Gala Apples in honor of him being a Veteran. Afterwards we went for a drive in the car on the Plateau including driving through Waterville, a place my uncle and aunt had looked at moving but decided to move to Cashmere, and over Badger Mountain. The views along the Columbia River and Highway 2 are stunning especially on a clear day. Lots to do and see here. One of my highlights was spotting some outcrops of a rock called basalt as we drove along the highway. Helps provide some geologic context for the natural beauty of the Wenatchee Valley itself.

With sweeping views up and down the Columbia River, a trail, interpretive signage, a display of ancient hieroglyphs and even a ginormous dam turbine there is literally something for every dam visitor. With plenty of dam parking, a large dam restroom facility and several lovely places for a dam picnic the Wells overlook is more than just an interesting dam stop - it doubles as a rest area and a place to stretch the ol' legs while driving through the Okanagan.

This review is for the recreation area just off SR 20 as I desperately needed a place to use the bathroom after a very long drive. The Wells Dam serves a source of hydroelectric energy and can pass a flood of over 8,800,000 gallons of water per second! It is also an important project that ensures the safe passage of migrating Salmon and Steelhead through the dams and has a fish ladder that allows them to get to the other side. It also allows scientists to catch some for studying (and maybe eating as well). The Wells Dam project also dedicates its time to hatching/breeding a variety of fish such as land-locked Chinook, White Sturgeon, Trout and Kokanee. It was deserted when we got there on a weekday around noon and there was a nice parking lot, a clean bathroom (hooray!), donated doggie bags for scooping your dog's poop, an impressive view of the dam and the surroundings and lots of signage. A lot of money and thought went into this rest stop for tourists and/or locals frequenting the area. It would be a nice place for a picnic under their pavilions for a quick lunch, a bathroom break in clean non-porta potty toilet, a photo op and a bit of history to help fill your afternoon with memories.

The Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest is a dense Washington forest with extensive networks of…read moretrails and raging rivers. We visited the forest in June when the snow was melting and there were brief rain showers everyday. Most creeks and rivers, especially the Wenatchee River, were overflowing their banks, with river water above the level of green grasses and bushes. The highly variable nature of the rivers made me wonder how difficult it would be for the home owners living just a few feet above their June high water mark. On a Wenatchee River rafting trip, a guide pointed out a high water mark when the river was at record levels during her lifetime. This must've been 10-15 feet above the already high water and would've destroyed many homes. Many of the trails in the National Forest are very long, requiring camping gear to complete the trail. Unfortunately, I did not have the time to complete any of these multiday treks, but I was satisfied with a taste of the trails in the area. The trails were generally quality from the start so I was never worried about only getting in a 3 mile hike if time was limited. Even a 3 mile hike would turn into a good workout because most of the trails had a steep incline. We were essentially stair climbing on many of the trails. It was hard but we also benefited from the incredible views. The views near the Leavenworth area were fruit trees and grapevines on the valley floor, steep pine trees ascending the mountainsides, with snowcapped peaks on the tops of mountains or on mountaintops in the background.

I saw info posted that you can get a permit to cut your own Christmas tree and gather mushrooms out here. Be careful as a lot of this area is closed now and has been closed for some time due to forest fires. Check to see what is open and when before going to visit.

As a younger man, I enjoy my time hanging with the seniors because I just love listening to their stories about life and the jokes they share with one another to keep the spirits up. If you're thinking about joining it's incredibly affordable too, only $35/year for an individual & $55/couple I purposely left out many other great activities & events they have going on with the hopes you'll join us for coffee one morning and then you can find everything out for yourself :)

Has a basement level just for children's books & activities. Has many meetings & activities for kids, teens & adults including a monthly writers workshop and 3 different book clubs including Banned Book Club which is my favorite and had to join when I saw the topic was the graphic novel Maus. I've even put in requests for the library to buy new books and they bought the Invincible graphic novels 1 they 3. Highly recommended.
