If you are looking for a grossly understaffed USPS, then you will strike gold here. Typically, they have 1 rep working at the front desks helping customers. On a good day, they may have 2. And on a great day, they may have 3, but one will only help with mail pickups and refuse to assist otherwise. And even when they are fully staffed, you can STILL expect long waits! Unless you arrive during off-peak times, lines are typically long, with about 5+ people and waits of 20+ minutes or better for service. The Indian female rep is normally mean to people and combative. The one with a heavy Caribbean/African accent is nice but works very slowly and tends to make mistakes - like adding on unnecessary costs. Each seems to be generally poorly trained. Among the entire staff, Lisa is the best - she should be running this office. She earned 1 extra star for this rating. Whoever the postmaster is simply doesn't care about this office's operations. He/she doesn't properly staff for peak times, come out to support the team when they are struggling, ensure labels stocked on the floor, or even keep displays presentable. It never ceases to amaze me how supervisors keep their jobs when lower level team members are the ones holding the business together. Lastly, they have a non-standard policy where they won't accept or scan in prelabeled packages. Even if you wait for a rep to be available, the rep will refuse to scan your prelabeled package and directed me to leave it at the counter in a bin: This is borderline fraudulent because all other post offices will scan your package since it's their JOB. I once dropped off a prelabeled package with a gift, they refused to scan it, and it mysteriously disappeared without a trace; my lost package was never resolved because it was never scanned at any point to be traceable! Overall, it's a barely mediocre office - I've seen worse (e.g., the MLK post office), but you should have low expectations here. If you can make the trip, go to the USPS office in Newport, and you will be amazed to see how a good post office is run. read more

This place is THE WORST. The clerks are rude and move at a snails pace. There is only ever one person working here at the front. The line is always out the door. There is no self service station. One lady working here told me that she can't lift the glass up to take my package, like what?! I didn't pick this job for you, you picked this job. I came here because I needed to mail a package internationally. I came shortly before closing on a week day and there was only a short line. They are conveniently located on Bergen Avenue with lots of shops nearby. The UPS Store is on the same block so it's easy to compare shipping prices if needed. This is a small, no frills post office. Some locations have little amenities like pens or tape available for packaging. This is not one of those locations. The staff are curt and direct. They won't put up with any BS, but they can be friendly and helpful. I didn't realize I needed a customs form to ship my package to Europe so make sure to fill one out in advance if you are shipping internationally. read more

Due to the pandemic, I use this small post office instead of the large one by my work. It gets the job done. I come here several times a week and so far everything has gone smoothly. The employees seem stressed at times and may have attitudes but they also deal with customers with attitudes so I get it. Respect is a two way street. Though businesses should practice better customer service, I still recall this one customer berating the teller and telling her how much better and more educated she was, what a great job she has and how she knows famous people. It was so embarrassing. Lines can be long depending on time/day. It's a standard USPS. No frills. No kiosks. What I don't like and I know it'll bite me one day is that the reps flat out refuse to give receipts for drop offs because it supposedly holds up the line. They tell you to put packages in the unsecure window where anyone can access it. I have a side gig as a reseller and if ever a customer complains that their package was not sent out because it was stolen or not scanned, it's my loss financially since I have no proof of receipt. For that reason, I am giving this post office 3 stars and going to the next town over (way out of my way) who will give me receipts! read more

What a nightmare of a place. Despite several windows, there was only one agent working. The line was out the door. I just had a drop off but was told to wait in line. When I got to the front, the agent was really rude. I had no way to tape the label on my package, and she didn't have any, so she told me to go across the street and buy tape and then get in line again. I don't understand why it has become so normalized for people with government jobs to take out their misery on other people. I don't have a lot experience with mailing packages and I have terrible social anxiety so I had a few questions about how to pay and which envelopes were the cheapest because I am a college student living on my own and I WAS NERVOUS. The lady at the counter was snapping at me like I was stupid for not already knowing these things as if it's not her job to help, and I clearly look young so I don't know what her problem was but it made me cry. If you go first thing in the morning, the line isn't so bad. If you go midday during your lunch break, you're screwed. Get ready to stand on line for a while. There have been a few times when the line moved not as slowly with the help of a staffer directing people, but it's still a long wait. Only one star for this post office and the only reason they received one star instead of zero is for the superstar Lisa. She always has a smile on her face and treats all her customers with outstanding customer service. The same cannot be said for the other two that work at the corner registers. Nasty attitudes and poor customer service. One argued with me about a receipt. A receipt!!! I politely asked for a receipt for my priority mail package drop off and the lady flat out refused. When I asked why, she simply said they don't print receipts for drop off customers. How do I know you scan my packages then?? If my packages get lost and I don't have a copy of the receipt saying I dropped it off at your location, what am I supposed to do? Come to find out, the last packages I dropped off were never scanned and luckily I had the manager find them before they got lost. On April 19 of this year I sent a seller in Oregon (I'm in New Jersey) payment for a couple of records, he had them mailed on April 20, the very next day. They arrived today May 27. That's 37 days and to any well run company that should be totally unacceptable. I've been tracking the package which arrived in a Jersey City, NJ on April 24 and didn't depart Jersey City until May 24, Jersey City is about 45 minutes from the packages destination. These dates come from USPS own data by the way. We've all heard the news reports that the USPS is losing billions of dollars and is looking for taxpayer money to bail them out or they might go under. If I can give 0 stars I would I've had packages expected to my home that never made it but showed up on the tracker as been delivered and no it wasn't stolen from anyone in the building because it never came to the house and we have cameras to prove. They stole my cell phone that I was in serious need of and apparently they thought fack it the post office insurance will cover it. I've had my personal mail ripped open on the corners to see if there's any money or anything inside of it. I've had express mail sent out to me that was paid the extra for fast delivery to be here at a specific time and twice it never made it until two days later from the day and time it was suppose to be here for and if I hadn't called to complain idk if it would have came the next day. I honestly don't know what the hell is going on with this place but it's absolutely disgusting. I'm wondering do these people get fired or they just don't care. I only give it two stars because there is usually an employee directing everyone in line which makes it a little more efficient. Hands down, THE most POORLY run post office I have ever been to. With the exception of 1 or 2 gems who I have not seen in a few months (maybe they couldn't take it either), employees are rude, slow, and not the brightest crayons in the box. Not much to be said for local mail carriers either (again, there used to be a gem who I haven't seen in a while): packages are often only attempted for delivery once and then, if you're lucky enough to get a notice, they are, more often than not, left blank. We had sent a package from California to Jersey City, it arrived on 12/29/18 to this location. It said it'd deliver on 12/31, mind you the delivery location is 1 mile or 5 mins away. When my Aunt (recipient) called, they said "It's just sitting here, if you want just get it here." Wow definitely the USPS has lazy employees and not sure why the federal gov't tolerates this. This review is for USPS overall. Yes this branch is always overcrowded because there is usually only one window open EVERYTIME I've gone there. It doesn't matter the time of day. But again this review is about my experience overall. Priority mail is a joke! Used to be that regular mail was sketchy at best, especially during the holidays when the post office steals more property then they deliver. But priority mail used to work be different. Paying extra used to mean that your package would be received on time undamaged but now all bets are off. I've been waiting all day for a two day priority delivery. It's been out for delivery since 10am and now is almost 8pm! WTH?? The U in USPS should stand for UNRELIABLE! UPDATE: SO after waiting all day and evening for my 2DAY PRIORITY PACKAGE I received a text message this morning that there was a delivery attempt yesterday at 5:50pm and a notice left because delivery area wasn't secure!! REALLY???? First, I checked my mailbox last night at 7:30pm after walking my dogs and had no notice there or on my door. Secondly, I was HOME so how is delivery not secure? It gets the job done.... if you have lots of time and get here at an odd hour or something. I try to avoid this location unless it's absolutely necessary. Even if you go at an odd hour, it's still very busy. Make sure you have a lot of time set aside for this location. There's a second close to Five Points in Jersey City that is a little better but that one has worse hours. *shrugs* Saving grace? This should have been a 1 star review because they lost my package which included my expensive textbooks for college. On top of that, I came to the store twice a day for 3 days to ask them to find my package which they said can not be found. I am ENRAGED!! I hate this post office. I live literally a block away and I would rather go into the city to mail or buy something. They are the ABSOLUTE worst. There is one person trying to expedite the line but more often than not she gives you the wrong information. And God help you if you actually need to pick up a package. USPS Journal Square is the worse post office in the world. When you approach them with questions, they don't answer you correctly. Packages have been lost and stolen and this is an ongoing situation, no one cares! When you ask USPS for a simple favor to leave a pick-up notice, it's never done.
