It is very "small town"…read more I heard that this tiny post office is here because there are two major court houses two blocks away (24th Judicial District Court and 5th Circuit Court of Appeal). It is not listed in most places, hard to find even on Google. It is the smallest PO I've ever been in, there is only one little counter and parking is just a small strip on the left side of the street. The right side is pay-to-park. Usually it's not bad though. *Note: the address is 3rd St. but the entrance is on Huey P Long Ave. because it is on a corner. The clerks are always very nice and helpful, one time I had a package, the window gate/cage was down and I knocked on the door and the lady came out and took my package. It made my day!!!!! The staff here works hard to try to get you in and out quickly, but like any other public service place, it is the morons that patronize the place that cause the problems. There is a never ending supply of people who have apparently never been to the post office before clogging up the line and delaying the process for the rest of us. Then there are the soldiers. The men and women in their uniforms picking up packages mailed to them; clutching their slips of paper signifying that they have a box form a loved one. They are there mailing packages to other soldiers and to their own families. More than once I have left that post office with a huge lump in my throat, and laid my forehead on the steering wheel until the mist in my eyes clears, imagining what they and their families face. If you ever see a soldier in the post office, its a good chance to say, "Hey, Thanks."

That is until I run out of supplies that I saved up from receiving packages in. I usually don't run out. Someone throws away my boxes, bubbles, etc. I didn't want to spend a bunch of money buying boxes , and packing so someone turned me on to this place. You can show up with just the item itself and they will box it up, fill it with packing material and send it off with FedEX or UPS. Since most of my visits are work related I do show up with things all taped up and ready, I just come here because they make it easier than dealing with UPS odd customer hours at the local main branch. I see they do titles, notary and such. All the folks there are extremely friendly . Also they take distancing seriously. No worries here.

As a former New Orleans City employee of many years I can review this at last from an objective position. Katrina was 20 years ago. The USPS office at Loyola has never recovered. This is the central post office in New Orleans and perhaps the most poorly managed in the city. It serves as a location that many tourists staying downtown are directed to, in order to send their New Orleans souvenirs home. It could be a New Orleans' promotionally welcoming experience instead of the glimpse of a major city in decline that it is. Entering, the first thing you will notice is the large, darkened, trash strewn and abandoned Sales and Services desk and kiosk area. This welcome alone is an indicator of the absence of managerial leadership among those here at the highest pay rates slumbering at their desks. Meanwhile, at the front service desk there are huge understaffing issues. With a bight few exceptions Staff is consistently slow moving, poorly trained, often ill tempered, and burdened with malfunctioning and poorly serviced printers and label equipment. Aside from being perpetually littered with debris and wasted postal supplies, the lobby seems unsafe because visible Security is often zero. Add to this the the proximity to the Bus and Train Station and it's pretty obvious security here is critically absent. This location is often frequented by the local homeless and forensic wanderers of New Orleans seeking warmth in the winter, AC in the summer, and possible handouts, or the possibility of finding forgotten packages or mail. Again zero security. Parking is fairly good, though I would have strong safety concerns regarding the Parking Lot at dusk.
