This post office is such a throwback to a time when we lived in an economy that had abundant competent labor and single-income households, so standing in line for 45 minutes could seem like a social event...but those are not the times in which we live. We live in an era of VENDING MACHINES (oooh, such high tech gadgets in use since the 50's haven't found their way here yet) and "Acceptance Scan" drop bins for pre-paid packages. You will wish time travel was possible when you are done with your business here at the Conshohocken post office, because you will want those 48 (yes, FORTY-EIGHT) minutes of your life back that you spent in line just to get one measly package scanned by the clerk. That was my experience today. There WAS a supervisor there, watching the clerk (yeah, that speeds things up a lot---NOT), and he encouraged me to complain because he "keeps saying he needs more staff". Why couldn't someone come out of the back and take all prepaid mail from the 16 people in line to speed things up? Because that wouldn't "create jobs" and increase the budget thrown away at this throwback post office. Buying more antiquated, process-unfocused labor is the answer? No. An awareness of today's USPS customers and their needs, by offering things such as a large roll-top bin for packages to get into the custody of the postal processing people and things like stamp vending machines, scales, and other self-serve mechanization IS the answer. Sorry, buddy, job security is one thing, but not when it is at the expense of MY TIME and MY TAX dollars subsidizing your inefficiencies. My advice to the USPS customer is: go to another post office because there ARE better ones (oh, and you'll have enough time to walk there and be back before you'd be next in line at this one...) read more
