Arrived during business hours to find doors locked and handwritten sign "out to Lunch 1:15-2:15". What? Since when? Worst post office branch ever. Had to go to Ashland Avenue PO

Closed 45 min early

I went here on 12/24 and it was closed 45 minutes early. A government agency shouldn't be closed early. They're paid out of tax dollars

Worse post office. Suppose to open at 9 no employee

Worse post office. Never opens up on time. No employee working. Need more employees. It's already 9:30.

Ask the Community - US Post Office

Is free parking available?

There are about four spaces in the lot right across Sheffield, they are marked as being for users of the post office. Be careful though, no matter what you want to do in this post office you will rarely get out of there in less than 45 minutes.

Is there packaging tape available for guests to avoid waiting in line?

As long as you are diligently honest, I believe you can get and use packaging materials before going in line and pay for everything (save the barcode for payment). Packaging tape SHOULD be available. Bring scissors.

What are the hours for the passport office?

None. Go to 3024 N Ashland, 2339 N California, 433 W Harrison, or 540 N Dearborn. M-F 10-3, Sat 10-2.

I use this facility on a regular basis and have been impressed with the service I have received…read moreover the years. Today's interaction, however, makes me question whether I will ever come here again. My purpose was to apply for a first time passport. I thought I had done everything correctly; forms completed, supporting documents, photos, payment method and an appointment. An employee, who turned out to be the passport agent, told me someone would be with me shortly. I said I had an appointment and I was aware I had to wait because I was early. She responded that she saw me and did not need explanations. I did not realize there was a waiting area for passport applicants, passport photos were being taken in the area, so I continued to stand outside the area. When it was time for the next applicant, I wasn't sure if it was my turn because there is no check-in system and someone had walked in while I wasn't sure waiting. I went to the agent's window and asked if she meant me or the other applicant. She responded with, "Does she have an appointment?" She continued to be abrupt and dismissive. I am always polite, my mother would have beat the crap out of me as a child if I wasn't. I do not understand the necessity of her negative attitude and her impatience to complete the transaction. I understand that they allow 15 minutes per appointment. I was done in 8 minutes. This agent needs to be retrained in customer service protocols immediately. USPS, get your act together!

The package was shipped out and the tracking was showing it was delivered 5 days ago but our customer didn't have the package. I contacted this post office and was surprised that someone answered the phone within 3-4 rings (if you've called many post offices before, you know they normally don't answer). I believe the woman that answered the phone was Gabby. I then explained the issue to her and let her do her thing. She said she would talk to the delivery driver and look around the office and call me back. While looking for the phone number to that location I had found came across the yelp page and was not at all expecting a lot. 30 minutes later I got a call back that the package was there and she was happy to call the customer for me to talk to her about picking up the package or scheduling a delivery! I was totally surprised and shocked. I have been contacting post offices for years for issues like this for various companies I've worked for and I would say 70% of the time no one ever answers a phone, especially in a large city like Chicago. Overall it's most likely less than 5% we actually find the package in question. This experience was enough to get me to reset my yelp pw, login and leave a review!

No option to leave voicemail and the ringer rings for probably 5 minutes and then disconnects. So, I call back and continue to do so for the next 45 minutes - NO ONE ever answers the calls!!! Not helpful to customers at all. The entire Chicago USPS is God awful and no supervisors or managers se to care either. If you can, don't use USPS as they customer service is nonexistent and half the time they "lose" your package. Ship with UPS instead and actually speak to someone whe having and issue with your delivery. This PO sucks and the people working there have ZERO customer service skills.

Thank you Miss Harmon and Ari for your fast and efficient service…read more Really appreciated you staying and getting us out in 10 mins!!

I've seen far worse post offices than this. Everyone complaining of employees giving an attitude…read moreperhaps need to understand these clerks aren't the complaints department for whatever you have going on. Ask to speak with a supervisor if you have delivery issues etc. It would be much better if some of the customers wouldn't stand in line trying to mail out a single first class envelope and waiting to buy a stamp just for that one envelope. Buy a book of stamps and you will save everyone else's time including your own. It would be much better if this post office had a caller window for people picking up packages open during a certain time of day like 10am or something then it would be easier to pick up packages like it was many years ago. But look at all other retail industries where everything is being automated or self serve so it doesn't surprise me that there is only one window or 2 at most open to help you. Sometimes putting yourself in the shoes of the clerk is all it takes and try seeing it from their perspective. It's not easy to have a postal job. Postal work isn't like a simple 9 to 5 job specially the ones going on route. The biggest problem is there is no parking lot for the customers and its either paying the over priced street metered parking or risking getting a ticket and when the lines are long, like waiting for 15 to 20 minutes in line for people to get their passports done specially if you know how to fill everything out then maybe do it yourselves instead of wa ting everyone doing it for you. Then that takes away time and sometimes its not worth paying overpriced meter parking or risking a ticket for waiting in long line to pick up package specially some rude customers with their kids screaming and jumping around like its a playground. The you all expect the clerks to be all smiling when you wouldn't be smiling either if you had to work in this kind of environment.

The only thing, this has to do with the company/training, but to charge to use a bit of tape... like cmon. I had to tape up my box and the charge $3 for that. How terrible is the economy that you have to charge for simple things like tape. I almost went home and didn't return my package because of this, very disappointed in The UPS Store as a company and do not plan on coming back if they penny pinch like that. Hopefully, I don't need to use their services anytime soon. Next time, I'll bring tape and anything else I could potentially need! Definitely don't depend on them/large corporations. I only found out recently, as I had gone into the Starbucks to dispose of a coffee cup from another, nearby Starbucks (true story). The customer standing in line was able to make use of one of the post office boxes mounted on the wall, so I catapulted right to the front. We're the little section of Ravenswood that's Uptown due to a location just east of the UPN Metra. Uptown has its challenges, but like many places in Chicago there's more than meets the eye. Edgewater, which is the newest of Chicago's 77 community areas, was created out of Uptown in 1980 so was once much larger. Uptown was once even more an entertainment hub than it is today. Perhaps one of the coolest bits of history related to Uptown is that it was the home of Essanay Studios, which was owned by Charlie Chaplin during his brief stint in Chicago in the early 20th century. Today there's the Aragon and Riviera as the major entertainment attractions, with the Green Mill down the block from both. The Uptown Theatre, a Balaban and Katz masterpiece, has been sitting quietly for decades until it can finally undergo repair (I truly hope this happens). Uptown Art Week is also a nice celebration of the neighborhood and it's great fun to walk along Broadway to watch folks working en plein air. There's also the Clifton Avenue Street Art Gallery with some interesting and beautiful works celebrating the area, or whatever the artist was moved to create. Downstate Donuts is in Uptown along Wilson and you need to stop here. If you've heard of them, you'll know that they are the place that makes donuts out of potatoes. I'm not exactly sure how it works but whatever it is, it's deeeeeelicious. They're super creative with their flavors; I have to say that the miso honey butter is my favorite flavor. Terrace (once called Hearthstone & Terrace) is a cool shop a few blocks west on Wilson. They specialize in home furnishings and also have a large collection of plants (houseplants and otherwise). The owners are cool as are the other employees. I've bought some lovely plants here and some great photo frames. Uptown is pretty cool and I thought that even before I realized we actually live within the boundaries of the neighborhood. You'll find something to do or somewhere to shop if you visit.
