I know it's common place to pick on your local post office, but I actually love the postal service. I think for the most part they do a wonderful job. You can send something across the country for about 50 cents and it gets there in just a couple days? That's pretty amazing. And I've usually had good experiences in the Belchertown Post Office, until recently. The postmaster there is so incredibly rude and impossible to deal with, I understand why the Amherst Post Office tells me that most Belchertown residents come to Amherst so they don't have to deal with her attitude. I recently had the audacity to inquire about a package that had not been delivered. Her answer? "Sir, our carriers deliver to over 200 addresses every day, we don't have time to track down your package" Uh, excuse me? Yet then in the next breath she claims this overworked carrier has a specific memory of delivering my package. Wait, I thought he was delivering to over 200 addresses a day and couldn't possibly remember my little unimportant package. She continued her defensive "Sir" this and "Sir" that, until I just asked her to please ask the carrier to describe the package he so clearly remembers putting on my porch. "I'm not going to ask him to remember one package out of all the ones he delivers each day!" Aggg! Her circular "logic" continued until she simple hung up on me. I called back and she said it was I who hung up on her. I then asked her what my options are to find my package. She yelled, "I already gave you the phone number to call!!!". I reminded her that in fact she hadn't given me any phone number or really provided any help whatsoever, so....DIAL TONE. Yep, she hung up. I called back and the first words I hear are "If you keep calling I will report you to the postal inspector!" Talk about not liking Mondays! So I filled out a complaint form with the USPS website, called the regional postal inspector myself, and maybe someday they will actually look for my package at the Belchertown Post Office, where it more than likely currently resides under a pile of pizza coupons.
