The place was jamming. It was likely an optical illusion, but this store felt bigger than others I've been to. Well maintained, and stocked out quite nicely, the biggest issue was navigating the inside traffic. People simply forget the 'stay to the right' rule when navigating shopping aisles. Drives me bonkers. The produce area was especially impressive and well stocked. Highly recommend this Costco, particularly if you are in the neighborhood!

Alas, Joyce and a few of her cohorts in the optical department blatantly ignored me and when I politely asked if I could just buy these and be on my way, Joyce lied right in my face, claiming to be helping TWO customers. The truth was that Joyce was regaling an acquaintance with stories about her piglets and all of the excitement of running a pig farm and helping zero customers. The guy she was talking to turned to me twice during his convo with her to assure me he wasn't buying anything and was just wasting time. So don't go in there thinking you'll get decent service because Costco treats its employees well. Note to Costco: Fire Joyce asap.

I was pleasantly surprised there wasn't that horrible off-gassing smell at similar type places. However, they did have some kind of odd blinky holiday lights that made annoying noises throughout my visit. I toured each aisle and there wasn't anything to my liking but I can see where a new Asian restaurant could completing outfit their establishment with everything they need. It was nice to see they had real plants! I would consider returning for those or maybe some of their pots. Prices were okay, not great. According to many handmade signs, they take shoplifting seriously!

I wanted to see if there is a Kmart near the area so I did a Yelp search for Kmart, this Portland Closeout store popped up. After glancing at Yelp photos, the 20 % off Yelp check in caught my eye, and the funny t-shirts, the ones on their profile pic. I asked my personal Uber driver ( my other half) to take me. You will not miss this place, there is a huge business sign and parking is available on both sides of the lot. I don't know where to begin looking, the store is clutter but it is a good clutter. There are tons and tons of stuff. Its like a one stop shop, Things you need in Chinatown and the flea market combined together. I am pretty sure you will find something you don't need but actually need here. Just like my experience here. I had fun looking around, Lets see this shop is HUGE! There are sandals, shoes, clothing for mens, womens, children, tshirts, hats, make up, hair accessories, phone accessories, even blankets. If you can't find what you are looking for, ask the owner, she is super friendly. I recall her name is Long. I had fun talking to her and she helped me find what I was looking for. As I mentioned I found 2 items that I didn't need but needed. I saw 2 hats , I didn't think I needed it but bought it for my mom and good friend. ( they both love hats!) I came to shop not looking for hats and not needing it but then I am so glad I bought them because my mom and good friend loved the hats. I also bought those funny saying shirts to give away as souvenirs. They are pretty funny! I was able to use my 20 percent Yelp check in and I am so happy to discover a new place in Portland. I noticed the blankets are cheap, they are the really soft blankets which comes in different color, prints, and even comes with a bag. I remember those blankets, during my childhood days my mom used to buy that blanket for us and I remember they cost more than what Portland Closeout sells them for. I am going to buy a blanket next time I visit. After paying for my items, Long mentioned that her husband is at the store across. Note: Portland Closeout is in 2 separate shop. The store is in front where Long's husband manage has all household items for your kitchen, home and garden which includes furniture, plants, even paintings. This store does look clutter as well, but its a good clutter!! I noticed children's bicycles out in front. This store has EVERYTHING!! Overall, I love how I discovered this place and I enjoyed my shopping experience here. I will be back. If you just moved to Portland, Please check out Portland Closeout, I guarantee you will find products for your new place and you can thank me later!! #101/100/2017

Clothing is brand new, never worn, and ranges from t-shirts to jackets to sweatpants to sweaters and accessories. You never know what you will find as product is always moving. Same with food items. Pasta, cookies, cereal, canned veggies and fruit, candy, bread, coffee, seasonings, soda, bottle water, lots of snacks and more. They are close to expiration but most have a shelf life far past that date. Items are arranged neatly and easy to see and find. Lots of cleaning products, too. Many are the Awesome brand found at the Dollar stores but they also have the main brands like Clorox, Windex, Snuggle, etc. What brought me in was the rakes, shovels and yard tools. They had a large assortment and at much better prices than big box or local chains. Even some planters in a variety of shapes, sizes and colors for far less money than elsewhere. Like $5-10. You need to wander around as the store has aisles going both vertical and horizontal and pathways that lead to areas which I guess could be considered a "department" like the garden supplies. Those working here are always unpacking items, arranging product and keeping the store organized and clean. They are super friendly and helpful, too.

Just to start with the most pressing issue, I can't possibly be the only one wondering if there's a…read moredead body hiding in one of the cars or trunks on the Super 8 side of the store. It smells SO AWFUL. If the stench is not coming from one of the cars parked along that side of the building, then it has to be coming from the building, itself. If there is not a dead body on the side of the Fred Meyer store, then they have some kind of seriously disgusting issue with rot or mold that literally smells like a dead body. There is NO WAY the employees haven't noticed. The checker assistants have to go over there to collect carts. I'm not exaggerating when I say it smells like something is dead over there. Someone needs to figure out where that smell is coming from. It's a health hazard on the basis of how bad it smells alone, but nothing smells that bad without there being a biological cause. It smells bad enough to merit three paragraphs. If it is an employee's car, this is one of those cases where they need to be written up for disgustingly unacceptable hygiene. There is no acceptable excuse for any area of a grocery store to smell like that. My second most pressing issue with this store would be the weights and measures. Is Weights and Measures like, not even a thing in Oregon? Because the sale tags at this Fred Meyer are wrong *more often than not*. They do a great job of putting tags up, but it doesn't seem to be anyone's job to take them down. I've been to this Fred Meyer a few dozen times, and it feels like I've caught at least one price error on every single visit. It's so bad that it almost feels intentional. You think you're getting low prices, and if you don't pay very close attention at the register, you might not even notice that such an incredibly high percentage of the sales tags are expired. I'm not saying this as someone who is angry with Fred Meyer. I still shop here. I've just stopped believing the sales tags. For example, a few days ago I was going to buy a bag of Nature's Path Peanut Butter granola, because it was marked down to $2.99. I even checked the tag to make sure it wasn't expired, and it wasn't. I actually like the chocolate flavor better, but it was $4 more. I specifically chose the peanut butter flavor because it was on sale. But even after I hit 'total,' the price was still $6.99. It's like the sales tag was just completely made up. Weights and Measures would have such a field day in this Fred Meyer store. I bet they could raise enough money from bin label error fines to pay for all kinds of community necessities. Third, the handicapped restroom in the women's room has a door that is impossible to lock, and it has been this way for at least sixteen weeks. I'm kind of hoping they get sued by someone in a wheelchair, at this point. That's so messed up to let sixteen weeks go by without fixing that. In case management reads this and decides to address the issue, they need to make sure the door can be locked by someone without much physical strength. If the door needs to be lifted up to lock, then it is absolutely not accessible. How would a person in a wheelchair lift the whole entire door up to get the latch to fit? I wasn't even able to do it with all my strength, and I tried pretty hard. I haven't had any issues with product quality or employee attitudes, as a lot of other reviews mention. The employees I've come across have been friendly, if it can be considered friendly to not care that most of your customers are being deceived and overcharged. So, like I said, I would still shop here, but carefully. Keep in mind that most of the sales tags are mythological. And don't park on the Super 8 side of the store unless you're able to hold your breath on your way to/from your car.
