On May 15, 2026, at approximately 2:30 PM, I experienced a very uncomfortable and concerning…read moreinteraction today at Costco Warehouse #672, located at 835 N. 3050 E., St. George, UT. As required, I scanned my digital membership card at the entrance. After proceeding about 25 feet into the store, an employee at the entrance called out to me, saying, "Sir, do you have your membership card? The card you scanned was a girl's." I was surprised and replied that I had, in fact, scanned my card. I walked back to the entrance and rescanned my membership. Despite this, the employee repeated that it was a woman's card. As he zoomed in on the image on his tablet, he continued to insist the card belonged to a female. I told him I found that comment offensive. Only after further examining the photo did he realize it was actually me and asked, "When did you cut your hair?" (I had longer hair during the COVID period when the photo was taken.) I again expressed that I found his comments offensive. Instead of apologizing, he dismissed my concern by repeatedly saying, "Come on," implying that | should not be offended. At no point did he acknowledge the mistake or offer an apology. Instead, the situation was minimized, as if the issue was my reaction rather than his conduct. This interaction raises several concerns: Is the purpose of scanning membership cards at the entrance to verify identity, or to make assumptions about a member's gender based on appearance? Are employees trained to recognize that men may have long hair and that appearance alone should not lead to conclusions about identity? How are employees instructed to handle situations where a member's appearance may differ from their membership photo? Does Costco consider how such comments may affect individuals, including those whose appearance does not conform to traditional gender expectations, or those who identify as transgender? Regardless of intent, the comments made to me were inappropriate and offensive. People's appearances can vary widely, and employees should approach these situations with professionalism and respect rather than making assumptions or public remarks. I hope Costco takes this feedback seriously and ensures that employees are better trained to handle member verification in a respectful and inclusive manner.

My experience with a sales agent at the Pro-desk, Wes Adams was excellent. I'm a first-time shed builder and had been gathering a lot of information using AI, I know, I know, but I use it mainly to get ideas then run them past those who have had experience in those fields. Wes (has considerable experience in construction) and asked me if I needed any help, so I told him what I was doing and needed some expert advice on a couple of things, and as usual, I was overthinking a lot of it. Wes simplified what I was attempting to accomplish and it all finally made perfect sense to me. I ended up purchasing just north of $800 dollars of product from Lowes and my project now is turning out great! Couldn't have done it without his advice. Thanks Wes. I really appreciate your help.

The most basic of questions gets you the deer in the headlights look. Now I do know that it's difficult to find younger people that have experience in the building industry because of all of the time spent doing meaningless tasks like video games and taking selfie. There are plenty oh retires out there that come from all trade backgrounds that would better service Lowes customers. Food for thought Lowes upper management.
