This was our first stop on our way up north to Lutsen to ski for the weekend. I had the drunkel Gandolf or something like that and my partner had an IPA. The service was really good and I felt people were too close for my comfort so I went outside by the wood fire pit. The fire pits are really nice and an added bonus and without them I would have peaced out. One thing I think is majorly bunk is there is a 15% service charge which doesn't go to gratuity!! What?!? And then the options for gratuity are 3%, 5% and 8%-seriously?!? And the people who work here were outside shoveling water! I don't know how this place keeps staffed. Yes the beer is good and I don't know how to support a place with so low gratuity options for staff unless they get paid a fair and fixed wage. read more

Shocked that no one has reviewed this awesome brewery yet-- but am more than happy to be the first! We got the tip that this place had just opened from a local as we were brewery crawling through Duluth, and headed over to try some beer and see how it was. How was it? Exceptional. The beer was unbelievably good, the service was amazing, and the atmosphere was super cool. Had we not been told that it just opened within the last 2 weeks, I would have assumed it was an older, well-established brewery based on the comfortable atmosphere and how many people were there. We got to have an awesome conversation with one of the brewers about how they pick what to brew, their history, and where they see the place going. It's always special to have a thoughtful conversation with someone passionate about their business. Our favorite beers were: Sturgeon's Breath (IPA), Thistle Drew (Scottish Ale), and Big Bad John (Double IPA-- packs a punch!!) If we lived in Duluth we'd be coming here often, but since we're in the Twin Cities, we'll just make sure this is a stop every time we roll through. I last came here in 2019, and was happy to come back in 2022! The food has gotten much better - I had the panini with mozz, basil, tomato and balsamic and it was so good! My brother works at one of the biggest breweries in the twin cities so he was excited to try the beer here and he was not disappointed. He got the one an employee recommended (sauna beer, I think) and absolutely loved it. My husband got "dad jokes" beer and liked it a lot. This place also has a nice atmosphere. Beautiful patio. I love that I was able to bring our puppy to socialize. Everyone eating and drinking was dog friendly. Although I was not sure I could bring the puppy inside with me when I ordered a drink. Signage would be nice. read more

In a world where there's as many breweries as there are Subway shops, it's hard to find a place that stands out. Duluth is such a beautiful town and Bent Paddle is overrated, so I found this gem. Ursa is a brewery that stands out from the rest with some unique, stylish beers some are absolute hits, and some just don't hit their mark. The pizza is great, when they've not run out. I love the outdoor space. Service is above average. The gear they sell is also above average. Come for the beer and pizza. read more

Stood at the bar for 10 minutes while5 different servers kept their backs to me and did not acknowledge me. I was there to return my growler which the server the perilous night said had a $7 deposit. After finally getting someone's attention...and wishing to put my $7 towards a 4pack. I was told it was a " fee" not a deposit....and "they're working on that"....I told my wife about the service and she said the same thing happens to her the night before, so obvious not an isolated issue. Beer is great, service is so/so. Sat at the bar twice, first time was great, second time I didn't get addressed other than my first beer and the paycheck. Tried Ursa Minor finally. I'm a local so I don't really have any excuse for not trying it sooner. Actually been there twice now. Cool place to try a unique brew and have a great pizza. Love that people can bring their dogs on the patio. My favorite brew so far is the cherry float. Bummer the grapefruit was gone. One star off only because I'm not yet sure how I feel about no table service. Bar service has been good, but it's kinda awkward to always be getting up. Cool place, though. read more

Stopped in for some quick pizzas on the way to a lame tourist spot. The pizza was amazing. We had a Margherita, a pepperoni, and a sausage & mushroom. All were amazing. Great leopard spots on the bottom of the pizzas. Good beer, root beer, and ambiance was good too read more

Cool spot! I really enjoyed all the IPA's they had at the time, didn't have the pizza, but it looked great! We came down for the beginning of the night and ended up staying until close. Had live music which was good, only thing I'd say that was negative is it got a bit cramped with tables. We didn't venture out to the fire pit but there is more than ample space out there! While in Duluth, we decided to take a drive over to Ursa Minor. It looked like a great place to stop for a beer. The beer and pretzel was good although the mustard sauce was way too grainy to use as a dip. We wished we would have went for the beer cheese dip. The service was good and prompt. While we sipped our beers and played a game of cribbage, we began to feel really hot. Table 22 is too close to the pizza oven and there are no ceiling fans circulating the air. So there we sat dripping with sweat. Plus, table 22 is way to close to their merchandise so people are walking over too much without masks. While we would have enjoyed another beer, it was way too hot and people did. It me their distance while ordering or looking at merchandise. So word to the wise, do not sit at table 22 or at the long high top tables. read more

I can't stand beer. But I can tell by the smiles and "Mmmmmm" sound I hear as people drink their beer that Ursa Minor is on to something special. What I can say is their root beer and pizza/pretzels are amazing!! They also sell some really cool apparel at very reasonable prices. And they also bring in some of the best live music around. Everything about this place is amazing! Pizza is freaking awesome. Neapolitan style of it matters! I'd say 1 pizza to every 1&1/3 people for portioning.
